Now that last photo, Mayz, is a masterpiece of can-opener-gourmet dining.  Scrod have mercy!

I'm in one of my phases of feeling revolted by the idea of eating anything sweet; yet ever since I found a recipe for Watergate Cake with Impeachment Icing (pistachio cake with icing to match) I have wanted to make one.  I am also hankering badly for a spice cake poked full of holes with salted caramel sauce poured on and into it, then slathered with maple icing.

What's a goldfish to do?

Just wanted to say that the lemon brownies I made last night made a fine breakfast this morning.

This seems mind-boggling to me. Apparently it was once quite popular.

It's easy to forget that once upon a time ketchup just meant a type of textured condiment, and came in many flavors, before tomato became standard.

That Nanny Ogg recipe sounds to me like a corned beef version of meatloaf, and I'd have no complaints with such an idea.

It's still sold as specifically tomato ketchup.

Actually, it's more of a sandwhich spread. Although a corned beef meatloaf sounds pretty good.

Of course there's always fruit ketchup:

The black-bean brownies I brought to team meeting were well received.  The team had a high-fiber, high-iron, low-glycemic-index breakfast with nobody the wiser.

 Fixed it. Ate it.
Surprisingly good.

Does anyone but me remember when Spam came in a handy 6-pack, and had a key attached instead of the pop-top arrangement they use now?

I don't remember the Spam six-pack, but I do remember the key.

I was reminded of it when I re-read Smith's Nightwing, and the hero grabbed a six-pack of Spam to take with him into the desert to go rescue his lady love, seeing as Spam has so much sodium that it makes you retain water instead of sweating it out.  I remember thinking, even the first time I read it in the 1970s, wouldn't you also be 10x as thirsty???

How long does Spam keep?  I have a 12-flavor variety pack holiday present from a few years ago still sitting around in the cupboard, just waiting for my desert trek to commence.
