Topic :   2nd XI Vs Cheadle

Saturday saw Winnington Park 2nd's take on a resurgent Cheadle who had won their previous 2 games. Cheadle won the toss and elected to bat on a good batting track. They  were in trouble at 68-6 after a fiery opening spell by Bryan Shingler (4-51) and at 128-9 but a last wicket stand of 97 saved them being all out for 222, with Mike Samuels scoring an excellent 115. Matt Atherton bowled well for his 3-35.

In reply Winnington were in trouble at 14-2, but a solid stand of 70 by Matt Atherton (47) and Ian Johns settled nerves, however Winnington regularly lost wickets and apart from Paul Winder with 14, Ian Johns carried his bat for 59 not out in an all out total of 182. For Cheadle Brett Kinsey and Chris Hyde each took 3 wickets. Cheadle won by 40 runs, Cheadle 25 points, Winnington 9.

on a blustery day at the rec winnington welcomed a strong grappenhall   team and after again winning the toss decided to field
park got off to a good start taking 2 early wickets but missed chances let the grappenhall batsmen off the hook and park paid the penalty as sharp and then titchard both passed 50. despite   a great catch from mckeown to dismiss sharp of cowells bowling parkinson the young wicketkeeper then proceeded to smash the park attack out of the ground for a rapid 65 which took the grappenhall total to 235 .phil amatiello being the unlucky pick of the bowlers of  0 for 34 of 10 overs.this week park didnt get a great start and lost hine and cherian with only 7 on the board but will chambres and sean oneill both passed 50 to get park in to  some batting points  .both fell soon after and with park needing 10 an over quickly shut up shop and played for some sensible batting and draw points with young ben chaloner finishing with 15 not out.park took a valuable 8 points from the game and managed to stop their recent losing streak.an important game away at hale barns next week who are also at the wrong end of  the table gives winnington an opportunity to register their first win after playing all the top of the table teams.

Whittaker takes Alderley back to top

ALDERLEY Edged their way back to pole position in the ECB Premier League with a thrilling last over home victory against Macclesfield thanks to a fine all-round performance from Cheshire's Jason Whittaker.
On a day when most matches lost overs to mid-day drizzle, Macclesfield opted to bat first and were bowled out for 169, Jason Knight 43, while Whittaker returned a good-looking 6-39 off 19 accurate overs. Alderley lost wickets regularly in reply with Mark Currie (37) top-scoring against Craig Melrose (5-80) and Barney Cutbill (3-67). But Whittaker remained steadfast and an unbeaten 37 saw his side home by two wickets with one ball to spare ... and a handsome 25 points return.
Bowdon's 100 per cent record was spoiled when their key fixture against champions Oulton Park at South Downs Road ended prematurely in bad light. In an 80 overs match, Oulton were put in and declared on 175-6, Nathan Dumelow 51, Danny Leech 41, Adam Syddall 3-77. Bowdon had reached a cautious 63-2, Adam Crozier 20 not out, when the umpires called a halt with 25 overs left in the locker.
Third successive century
Set to return home before the end of May to take up a new first-class contract with Queensland, Nantwich's prolific left-hander Glen Batticciotto hit his third successive century in a 62 runs victory over Chester Boughton Hall at Whitehouse Lane. He scored116 out and Rob Cook-Sievewright 41 in a tally of 217, the evergreen Alex Kegg taking 6-60. Chester replied with 155 all out, Jim Gillson 58, Nigel Davies 4-36, Batticciotto 3-46. The Aussie, who has had trials for Essex and Lancashire on previous visits to the UK, has now scored 467 runs in five innings at an average of 155.60, apart from taking 12 wickets.
Widnes had the better of a drawn game at Toft which lost 40 overs to rain, batting first to post 174-7, Tony Hurdley 53, Josh Bean 5-62. Toft had their last pair at the crease on 158-9 when time was up, Adam Carolan 52, Dan Pascoe 4-53. Umpire Rick Davis, now fully recovered from a hospital stint reports that this match was a delight with both captains - Andy Bones and Ian Spencer - and their teams showing what the Spirit of Cricket realty means. Rick said: "It was fitting that every result was possible when the last over started".
Bottom of the table Heaton Mersey put up their best performance yet and came near to beating Hyde at The Heatons. Hyde posted 205-9 in 45 overs, James Duffy 87, Danny Berry 54, including a 30 runs blast off the final over. Hassan Rashid 4-33. With 75 from Matthew Norbury, Mersey had a real go for the runs and fell only 10 short at 196-6.
Considering the bad weather which blanketed the county and south Lancashire around mid-day it was surprising that the only match cancelled was Urmston versus Neston.
PICK OF WEEEK. Batting - Glen Batticciotto (Nantwich) 116 v Chester; Bowling - Jason Whittaker (Alderley Edge) 6-39 v Macclesfield.

THERE was a cracking finish to the First Division Match of the Day at Didsbury, who emerged with a 15 - 11 points draw against Oxton.
After four overs lost to rain, Didsbury were bowled out for 196, D. Morgan and J. Mason both 37, Nick Anderson 35, Tom Pearson 6-46, Andy Birley 3-49. With Chris Davies, 57 and Anthony Birley, 52 both batting well, Oxton got tantalisingly close at 193-9 by the close, John Fawcett 4-29.

Re :   1st XI Vs Mobberley

The Mobberley verdict
Mobberley on "Winnington" Strreak

Winnington Park 1 XI 187-9

Mobberley 1 XI 189-3

Mobberleys improved fortunes under new captain Mike Lennon continued on Saturday at with a 7 wicket demolition of .

Winning the toss Lennon invited Winnington to bat 1st on cracking cricket wicket. He must have wondered what he had done though as Winnington raced to 30-0 off 3 overs but the early introduction of Aussie spinner Spiteri brought Mobberley a much needed breakthrough, Thompson taking a sharp catch behind the wicket. Mobberley, unable to capitalise saw Winnington progressed to 121-1 before a direct hit from an Adam Locke throw ran out Welch one short of his half century.

Lennon brought himself into the attack and he was to prove the architect of the Winningtons downfall with 4-43, assisted by S Khan (2-37). 8 wickets falling for 64. declaring on 187-9 leaving Mobberley 44 overs to reach their target.

Mobberleys response started slowly, Locke falling early and runs failing to flow. Dave Johnson though clearly thought enough was enough and began to set about the Winnington attack. He began to smash the ball to all parts before holing out at deep square leg for a crucial 68.

At 108-3 the Mobberley of old could well have collapsed. Not this 2008 squad. With the diminutive Nathan Wood at the crease, fast becoming the best finisher of a game in the league along with the wonderful stroke play of Panni Hussain Mobberley cruised to victory with 7 wickets and 3 overs to spare.

Mobberley entertain Marple at home next week and will be in high spirits after back to back victories.

Mobberley put in to bat and after being 17-4, dueto a hostile opening spell by Jereth Cormack put Mobberley in trouble, buta big hitting spree by Darren Sutcliffe with 79 raised the score to 184 for9 dec after 50 overs. Cormack and Jason Hayes with 3 wickets each andStuart Moniz with 2 all bowled well. In reply Winnington reached 185 - 5wickets with 2 balls to spare, Mike Johns a classy 65 sharing stands of 50with Dad Ian (15) and 55 with Kedar Dhopate (27 not out). An excellentinnings of 31 by 16 year old opening bat, Alec Butcher showed much promisefor the future. Winnington 20 points, Mobberley 11

with the start delayed due to rain and the game reduced to 88 overs thetoss was crucial but for the first time this season the winnington parkskipper called incorrectly and was asked to bat.making up for lost timehine and chambres set about compiling a useful target and in no time at all30 was on the board after only 6 overs .after chambres departure neil welchcame to the crease and upped the tempo and put a blistering 90 with theskipper only to fall short of a well deserved half century on 49.thecaptain duly completed his half century only to fall immediately for 54.wickets steadily fell as winnington strived to accumulate more runs andvaluable?batting points but only glin cherian on 31 managed to get intodouble figures but 187 after 44 overs was a more than useful total of 44overs.bowling recently has been a problem for winnington but with thewelcome return of tom pilling who in his 2nd over claimed the first wicketthings looked promising.the mobberley batsmen then carefully proceeded totake their time and meticulously accumulated runs without offering anychances.sean oneill and james cowell both claimed wickets but a fine 68from the opener johnson and an unbeaten 40 from ex lancashire player nathanwood?took mobberley to the brink of victory which was sealed in the finalfew overs with??a few hefty blows from hussain who finished on 38 not out.although mobberley took 20 points skipper dave hine was happy with a wellearned 10 points and an overall improved performance.next week winningtonhost promotion favourites grappenahll at the rec
