Sorry it's been two days since I last posted an update. I didn't go to the hospital yesterday, and I was pretty busy with other things. Most of you would have probably heard from Sandy by now how awesome Mom was yesterday. Today was excellent, too. I got to the hospital around 1 or so, and they already had Mom sitting up in the chair. They said she had been out of bed for around 45 minutes or so. The minute I walked in the door, Mom gave me a big smile and waved hello. The nurse today, Sue told us that they had tried to get Mom to walk a little, and though she couldn't really do it yet, she was trying. After about an hour or so of just chatting, Mary asked the nurses for a communication board. Basically a place mat with the alphabet on one side, and little communication drawings on the other. I showed it to Mom and asked her if she could remember how to spell her name. She was a little shaky, but she pointed out the letters P-A-M!!! Too cool! Mary is a DMC employee, so she has a password to access the computer terminals there. After asking if it would be Ok, we brought one of their roll around computer stands in to Mom's room, accessed the internet, and read a few of the messages of encouragement that you all have posted on this site. She seemed to be touched by all of your concern, and I think she was a bit amazed that she has her own web site with thousands of hits. After all that, Mom was ready for a nap, so around 4 Mary and I helped the nurses get Mom back into bed for a nap, and then we left for the day. There weren't any doctors around today, being Sunday and all, so I don't really have anything more to say about her medically, but I did notice that they have moved her vent drain up to 20, and I noticed she was maintaining her own ICP pretty well. I will be going again tomorrow, and hopefully I will see one of the neuro guys.
