Had a minor medical set back today. The surgeons at Harper were trying to see how well Mom was regulating her own ICP, but when they raised the drain to 25, Mom's pressure started to increase higher than they would like to see it. So today they performed a lumbar puncture to try and help her drain some of the heavier blood that may have collected at the base of her spine. It's a pretty routine procedure, done at the bedside. They are going to try and drain her from the base of her spine for the next several days, and then try to let her regulate her own ICP again. A little disappointing, but not that bad. On the other hand, Mom was awesome today. She was pretty relaxed in her surroundings, and I got the impression that she knew what was going on, and was content to let her body do some healing. At one point I got her to smile at me while I was teasing her about having to learn how to do everything over again. I told her (Mr. Sensitive) that if she was having a hard time relearning to read and write this fall, we could enroll her in kindergarten with Kristopher! That's when she smiled at me and gave my beard a sharp tug! I think her sense of humor is still there. Also today when I was leaving for the day I waved goodbye as I was walking out the door, and Mom waved back with her right hand. Her right hand was still restrained, so it was pretty cute to watch her raise it as far as she could and wave. We also gave her one of the little worry blankets that Jenny made for her, and she seems to really like it. She was constantly playing with it with her right hand, and reaching for when she couldn't find it. That's all for now. I'll be going back down there on Sunday, and I will also post any info that Bob sends my way tomorrow.
