Balkans. Good progress by the Franco-Italians in southern Albania with an advance of 20 miles as the retreating Austrians put up little resistance.
Russian Civil War. The Czech Legion enters Irkutsk.
The LSR revolt spreads to Rybinsk north west of Moscow where the Bolsheviks have a major artillery depot.

Tuesday 9 July 1918.
Russian Civil War. The C-in-C of the Bolshevik forces at Kazan, Gen. Mikhail Muraviev, assigned to hold back the advancing Czech Legion, rebels upon hearing of the LSR uprising and takes 1000 men down the Volga to attack the Bolsheviks at Simbirsk.
The German Foreign Secretary since August 1917, Richard von Kuhlmann, resigns; replaced by Paul von Hintze.

Balkans. The Franco-Italians reach Berat in Austrian-occupied southern Albania.
The Army of Islam founded at Elizavetpol as a unit within the Army of the Ottoman Empire 20,000 strong.
Three German destroyers/torpedo boats stray into a minefield in the North sea and are sunk, 176 killed.

Thursday 11 July 1918.
Russian Civil War. Gen. Muraviev, who sailed down the Volga to attack Simbirsk (see 9 July), is shot by the Bolsheviks "while resisting arrest". Nevertheless several towns and cities rise up against Bolshevik rule.
Prince Wilhelm, Duke of Urach, a member of the Royal Family of Wurttemburg is elected King of Lithuania. He adopts the title King Mindaugas II.

Japan's first dreadnought battleship Kawachi destroyed in an accdental explosion at anchor in Tokuyama Bay, 621 killed with 438 survivors.

Sunday 14 July 1918.
Russian Civil War. With the overthrow of the Reds in Tashkent a new administration is formed - the Transcaspasian Government, most of the leadership are former railway workers.
Palestine. A rare offensive action by the Turko-Germans against the Allies, they attack ANZAC and Indian Army positions at Abu Tellul; the attack is driven off. It is the last offensive move by the Central Powers in the Near East.
Balkans. The Franco-Italian push into Albania ends with an advance as far as the Devoli river.
The French liner Djemnah sailing from Marsailles to Madagascar is torpedoed and sunk by the U105 off the Libyan coast; 436 are killed 328 are rescued.
