The advantage of insinuations over hard arguments is that they bypass critical thought. No one can respond precisely to a charge that is utterly vague or to accusers who will envelope any reply in a poisonous fog of further insinuations. ~ David Warren, The Guardian

There was a time when there was enough freedom that it hardly mattered which brand of crooks ran government. That has not been true for a long time and that captures an important point. The more powerful the government becomes, the more people are willing to do in order to seize the prize, and the more afraid they become when someone else has control. ~ Glenn Harlan Reynolds

Huh.  That's odd.

Fixed it.

Price's law, I'd never heard of it.  If Peterson is describing it accurately, it sure matches what I see around me.

Finally watched it.  Lots of good points but at 13 minutes in he was a bit weird.  No, bus drivers in Amsterdam cannot stick to a timetable to within one minute - but vehicle tracking devices can transmit information to a receiving device at the bus shelter which can give calculated estimates.

As I recall, his amazement was that the information was even available to those waiting for the bus to arrive.

Wow - Cathy Newman was not listening to what he said - and worse constantly attempted to construct strawmen, acting like he said what she said he said - not reacting to what he actually said.

He certainly maintained his calm demeanor throughout ...

I struggle with statistics and the values attributed to percentages, distributions, mathmatical precise explanations for people....just can’t accept or believe that 400 represents accurately the views and values of 200 thousand.  So I can’t hear him without tongue in cheek ....can’t suspend my disbelief.

That aside, his calm in a storm is admirable.  Good luck emulating him.

It's an admirable skill to have, no matter what your perspective.  The lady did everything she could to rattle him, short of slapping his face or showing her boobs, and failed.

And, yes, statistics.  What's the saying?  There's lies, there's damned lies and there's statistics.

Seems like he is.  A couple generations of boys have been raised told they are racist homophobe, toxic, privileged, rapists and that self esteem has nothing to do with merit... they’re “special” apparently only because they draw breath.

Peterson says when he talks of personal responsibility and competence he can see the young men in his audience spellbound and wide eyed like they have never heard anything like it and are starving.

Another excellent piece - interesting how members of the other forum (FSA) posted attacks on Peterson by a leftist sociologist grad student from Harvard (name escapes me at this time).  Peterson would take him apart intellectually one on one.

Peterson expects all of this to end badly.  He likens it to riding a huge wave... what usually happens to people surfing on a huge wave?

The advantage of insinuations over hard arguments is that they bypass critical thought. No one can respond precisely to a charge that is utterly vague or to accusers who will envelope any reply in a poisonous fog of further insinuations. ~ David Warren, The Guardian

There was a time when there was enough freedom that it hardly mattered which brand of crooks ran government. That has not been true for a long time and that captures an important point.
