A few weeks ago, my boss came in and said "Mr. Larry.  If I knew anyone that could make a sign from wood I would have one made that reads something like "Two things cannot be undone, words spoken and deeds done."

So I worked up a sample pattern and showed it to him after lunch.  "Yep, something like that." was his response.  My next step was to figure what type of wood to use.  Then I remembered his stack of mesquite firewood and proceeded to rescue a log from the fireplace.  Took the log home, fired up the ole saw and sliced the log into planks.  Made two patterns and started cutting.  My plan was to let him select the one he wanted and I would keep the other one.

Yesterday morning, when the boss came in, I told him I wanted to show him what I had found in his woodpile.  Then I showed him this one. He stated he would hang it in his office.

Yesterday morning, when the boss came in, I told him I wanted to show him what I had found in his woodpile.  Then I showed him this one. He stated he would hang it in his office.

Then I took this one out and said, "I found this one in the same place."

He said he would find a place to hang it also.

Then came the question, "How much do I owe you?"  My response, "I made this from one of the logs in your firewood.  If you will let me select a couple more logs, we can call it even.  He stated, "Take all you want and I have another load coming in so help yourself."  I did not get one these as I planned but I sure have enough wood to make me one from.  And, I will remember to give him some more cuttings that I come up with.  I call that a good trade off.

Cut from 1/2 inch mesquite about 17x5 using FD #5 Scroll Reverse blade.

Finish is 2 coats Bull’s Eye clear shellac.

Thanks Bob.  I like working with mesquite.  One has to work hard to make it not look good.
