Ad-aware Free is also a good free Anti-Malware: anti spyware + anti rootkit.
I use this product myself on a regular basis.
I also use Windows Clean Up every internet session.
The options are: Thorough CleanUp.
Detailed Settings are: Delete Newsgroup Subscriptions, Delete Cookies, Scan Local Drives for temporary files, CleanUp All Users.
I don't know about you, but I have seen viruses that 'piggy back' on emails, so make sure you have a good anti virus program
Avira is a free anti virus program, infact all of these are free!!
