Has dial idol given anybody problems with their computer? I recently got a new compy and I've been very careful about what I download and what sites I go to (no more Myspace for me!)  I just don't want to put anything on my computer that could potentially kill it. =)

I wish I could say I could answer questions about it.. I downloaded it and never could get it to work.. I think it's coz I have dsl but you must also have a phone modem.. which I do not.  However there are extensive tutorials on dialidol gophones and gizmo on the daydreamingboy.com website. just go to 'support jason'.  there's prolly more people here who could help better than I..

It's very easy. You just need a landline & a computer. It's a free, safe, very fast download. And it will dial for the entire 2 hrs, leaving you free to dial with your cell, or text.

Here is the link (remove spaces):

I just followed the instructions. After you download, you take the phone plug out of your land phone & plug it in the computer. Then you do a test run. I had no trouble. Click on CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD. See what happens. It is really easy. Once it's all installed, you just get it all plugged in before the show, highlight Jason's name, and hit autostart. Let me know what happens.

On DialIdol there are different settings.  Go to config and set the times to the minimum amount.  For instance, on time between calls, I entered 0, so that it will immediately redial.  However, one of my busmates said that did not work for her, so she had to set it at XX seconds (I forgot how many, but it was the minimum to work for her computer).

Okay, I'm having some major confusion with Dial Idol.  I may sound extremely dumb, but I have read the instructions a thousand times and I just can't get it to work.  Need clarification on the phone line...

Currently have the phone line connecting the phone and wall...
When I set up Dial Idol, does the phone line go from the wall to the computer...or does it go from the phone to the computer?

I read somewhere that I need a splitter, is that true?

This is the way my dial idol is set up.  From my phone jack, I have a splitter, one phone cord goes to my dsl modem and the other goes into the back of my computer and then the ethernet cable from my dsl modem also goes into the back of my computer.  Here's a picture of what I have my dial idol options set at.  I also had to go into my pc's control panel and change the internet latency thingy because dial idol wouldn't work.  I found out how to do that at the dial idol faq on their site.  If you need to know how to do that let me know and I can help.

The items beside the black marks should be changed to what I have according to the tutorials that were sent out by daydreamingboy.

This is for anyone who has installed dial idol but still can't get it to pass the "detect a busy signal" test.  This was the problem I had.  It would give me a green checkmark on everything but the detect a busy signal in which it would give me a red x.

This is what the dial idol FAQ says to do to fix it.

"In control panel adjust the advanced initializtion string, changing this to AT&F1 once worked for me, maybe it will work for you too!"

Here's step by step instructions on how to do that in Vista, which is the OS that I have.  If you have XP, it's going to be a little different.

1.  Click Start menu and go into control panel.  You can change the control panel to classic view       on the left.  It's easier to find what you need if you do that.
2.  Double click "Phone and Modems", click on the "Modem tab" at the top of the new window.
3.  Highlight your modem and click "Properties", that will bring up a new box.
4.  In that box, click on the "Advanced" tab, then where it says "Extra Initialization commands"      you want to type in  "AT, F1" without the quotations though.  Then just hit OK and close          the other boxes.  Now go back and redo your test in dial idol and most likely it will work          now.  It worked for me anyway.  If you have any questions let me know.  Good Luck.

If you have a cable modem, and if your computer also has a regular phone modem hookup in the back, then this is how I do it.

You need an extra phone cord with jacks at both ends.  Unplug your phone.  Plug one end of the new cord into the back of your computer and plug the other end into your wall phone jack.

You can still use your computer on the internet because that is going through your cable modem.

And if you are on the east coast, I'm almost 100% certain that you can use both dialidol and gizmo at the same time since they each use a different connection.
