History Talk: Late Notice: but we'll be speaking at the Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert in Ridgecrest Tuesday, April 15th, at 7:30 p.M. The topic will be Louis D. Gordon, The Man Behind Cerro Gordo's Zinc Era. Time permitting, we will talk about the legendary Badwater Nessie, also.
Friends of Jawbone: Join Us April 26 & 27th at The Friends of Jawbone Annual Moose Anderson Day's www. jawbone. org We'll be doing the 4x trip on Sunday. Tentatively we're thinking of visiting Josie Bishops grave and Dove Springs.
4WD Tours:
Land of Volcanoes: We'd love to do a Land of Volcanoes trip...but need to have at least have 6 vehicles to make a go of it. We normally do this trip towards the end of June. If you are interested, give us a shout...and we'll see what we can work out.
Fat Hill Fandango: We never turn down an opportunity to go to go to Cerro Gordo Ghost Town of course, so this trip is definite, we're just haven't narrowed down the date yet. It will be one of the weekends in the middle of July.
Bye God To Bodie: We're spending a lot of time in the ghost town of Bodie this year. We're running a private tour the first weekend in August for www. panamintvalley. com, then the following weekend we'll be actively involved in the Annual Friends of Bodie Event, which we encourage you to come join in on the fun as well. Terri Geisinger & the rest of the Friends & State Park staff do a fantastic job of taking you back in the past every year, and the food at the Friends of BBQ is always delicious! Keep checking our website for more information about this event. Due to these events we may not be scheduling our September Bye God To Bodie 4 wheel drive tour...but if 6 or more vehicles are interested.... I'll bet we could find the time to do so...so let us know.
Golden Leaves & Golden Trails: We need to re-route this trip if we offer it as there have been changes in the status of some of the areas we have visited in the past. We also would need to have 6 vehicles or more signed up. Let us know if you are interested and we'll see what happens. This would be in the middle of September, also.
May Website:
Of course, as always, our website will be updated each month with California histories and legends and lore, as well as Roger & Marty's photo galleries of our adventures. In May we will be featuring a little different type of California history than usual. Roger will be telling us about a cat that came to Elysian Heights Elementary school in Echo Park where he grew up and became famous.
T-Shirts, Mugs, & More!!!!
We are also dabbling in Explore Historic California Ware. It's a work in progress, but you can check out and order t-shirts, mugs, & more at http://www . cafepress. com/ehcware2 with our new Explore Historic California tour logo. We also have our most popular legend - Badwater Nessie available at: http://www . cafepress. com/ehcware. Order your shirt now, and we'll recognize you next time we see you for sure! More designs will be coming in the future.
If you have an idea for a design you would like to see, let us know! Most Mojave Expedition Travelers would probably join me in trying to persuade Roger to design a shirt with "I Survived The Big Zuna Downhill" don't you think?
Digging Up California History
We are also focusing more on digging up California's history - so look for announcements of where we will be speaking. If you'd like us to speak for your group or around your campfire...let us know. We haven't scheduled it yet, but last year we were heard around the campfire near the Mammoth Ranger Station.
Keep an eye out for the published proceedings of the 8th Annual Death Valley History Conference.
Cecile's presentations: The Man Behind Cerro Gordo's Zinc Era & The Legend of Badwater Nessie will be included in the book when it comes out!
