This morning every phone in the house started ringing. It wasn't the usual bringgg....bringggg..... it was just one long several minute briiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg. We finally got it stopped...but there was a buzz noise in the background when you picked up the phone. We could get calls and make them, but there's still this annoying buzz. I thought it was the cordless phone so unplugged it, but that didn't help. I also went outside to the phone jack out there and unplugged it for a minute then plugged it back in - that sometimes resolves phone problems. But not this time. My husband was at work by now, so I called him and told him we were still having phone problems. He put in a call to Verizon and apparently it's all over...it's not just us.

I have never heard the phone "bringgggggg" without pausing. My first thought was that it was the "aliens" and I had visions of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" :lol:

Anybody else experiencing this?

I've had that happen here at the shop when they are working on the lines, I'm not sure who are service provider is though.

Grrrrrr!!!!!! They came out and it's our problem - Roger can fix it this weekend... I do have phone service but a very annoying buzz on the line the whole time!

Someone tore up the main fiber optic cable down near Little Lake a couple of weeks ago and cut off all long distance, 911, Internet, fuel pump card readers, credit card readers, ATM machines, cellular phone service and the like.  It was down nearly the entire day.  Two banks in Bishop even closed their doors because they could not transact business, my bank would only allow one customer in at a time so that they could keep an eye on things.  They also had to do all their transactions via telephone with their main branch in Ridgecrest.  Needless to say, everyone is PISSED!!!! This happens several times annually.  Verizon refuses to put in a second fiber optic line as they do elsewhere.  The line serves the entire eastern section of the state.

i've had that long ring thing happen, but never for a whole minute. 

could be some kind of surge through the line.

reminds me of the lawnmower man movie from the 90s, lol.  every phone in the world starts ringing at the same time.
