We're going to shut everything down tonight for energy awareness except the fridge and take a walk.

Earth Hour - North America

Denver Newspaper Agency will support Earth Hour......... Miami, FL on board for March 29......... Nelly Furtado will "turn off the light" for Earth Hour......... Fall Out Boy backs Earth Hour......... Honolulu, HI on board to turn out......... Denver on board for Earth Hour......... Phoenix Suns and Chicago Cubs score one for the planet and join Earth Hour......... Blue Man Group joins Earth Hour to take a stand on climate change.........

On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.

Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships-Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)-whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.

What will you do when the lights are off? We have lots of ideas.

Join people all around the world in showing that you care about our planet and want to play a part in helping to fight climate change. Don't forget to sign up and let us know you want to join Earth Hour.

One hour, America. Earth Hour. Turn out for Earth Hour!

Guess we shouldn't expect any posts this evening on the forum during Earth Hour, unless your wireless all the way.

Over on my local forum...a few people had negative thoughts about the whole thing. Here was my comment:

I don't necesarily believe in Global Warming as it is being presented to us either, but I do believe in conserving when I can. I also think an hour without the lights and just sitting and doing nothing is a wonderful idea no matter which site of the fence you are on in this hustle and bustle world. That hour last night in the candlelight, just sitting and chatting with my husband, and watching my 95 pound dog play tag with the 8 pound cat was like a mini vacation. I couldn't get to my favorite backcountry ghosttown, so I brought it to me for an hour. Maybe I'll incorporate this into my daily life... for my own health...not to mention the world's.

I pretty much think anytime we can save energy is a real good thing.

plus this excercise remided me last night to go turn the bathroom lights out when not being used, things like that. this morning i walked the three blocks to pick up a loaf of bread, instead of driving.

I was up Saturday night 11pm til Yesterday at 2pm I went to bed at 4pm. When I woke up at 8pm, I freaked cause it was dark and thought I was way late for work cause I didn't have my cell phone on me for my alarm... but I got up to grab that and went right back to bed til 11pm. Saved lots of energy!
