Coven Structure

The following is the degree system suggested by Light and Shadows coven:

Degrees - a three-tier Degree system:
First Degree
Second Degree
Third Degree

Symbols of Degrees

Cords

White cord – New birth, purity -. First Degree
Red cord – Passion, creativity, initiative – Second Degree

Black cord – The void, shadows, authority, honor – Third Degree

Garb

Each member has their own robes (preferably handmade) that is a color designated for their Station:
Seekers - Gray
First Degree - White
Second Degree -  Red
Third Degree - Black

The Light and Shadows Cloak is silvery gray, hooded and the insignia displaying their station is worn on the left breast

Legalities and Equalities

Most covens are law-abiding. They often use wine in ritual, but are otherwise substance-free, and consider drugs to be a crutch that does not belong in most covens with serious devotion to their spirituality. Due to the nature of rituals, and requirements of personal responsibility, our coven cannot take members less than eighteen years of age.

Generally membership in covens is open to those of all genders, races, classes and sexual orientations. Racism, sexism, classism, or other similar discriminatory attitudes will not be tolerated within the coven. Such prejudice is deemed an insult to the open intellectual mindset and spirit that are necessary to the exploration of a any tradition. Those that cannot work with others of a differing background or culture, whether in life or in the craft, are advised to seek membership elsewhere.

Working Magick

Always do magick in a circle, doing so:

  • Contains the energy.
  • Protects.
  • Keeps out unfavorable vibrations or entities.
  • Power shared within a circle is not lost.
  • Magick done within a circle is secret.

DO NOT share magick with anyone you are not comfortable with.
If you do magick alone never discuss it.

Notes to remember:
The priority of the training coven is to learn to work with others, to connect.
Coven work is sharing as opposed to working solo.
Connecting to each other to form 'a single unit' is important when power is raised and enhances your magic.
Power shared in a circle is safe.
Practice drawing an invoking pentagram.
Remember that the art is in balancing the ebb and flow, there has to be a rhythm just as in a simple chant.
Esbats are circles where covens practice magick.
Do not open yourself up to quickly with people you don't know.
Never trance or do path-work unless you feel secure about it, especially with strangers.
Remember as you train to learn the craft it is like becoming a musician.
That is:

  • You practice with a teacher and play alone quite a bit.
  • Then you get better and join an orchestra.
  • Then after play in a orchestra you become a conductor.
  • To become a conductor you must be adept at soloing, playing in a orchestra and finally conducting which means knowing all the parts and being able to direct the rhythm and timing to produce one harmonious symphony.

NEVER EVER LOSE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR AND
NEVER TAKE YOURSELF TO SERIOUSLY.
TAKE THE CRAFT SERIOUSLY
BLESSED BE.

I think the basic purpose of the coven should be discussed in more detail
