~ Fairy Furniture ~
is a month that fairies love! Show them your appreciation and give the
kids a great project by making them some furniture! Items needed:
* Twigs, vines, dried flowers
* Needle and thread
* Scrap material
* Hot glue gun - be sure little fingers are safe!
* Pruners to cut the twigs - again, watch those little fingers!
what you're going to make. We'll make a chair, to give you an example.
Cut the twigs in this manner - one long, bendable piece that will form
the back legs and back of the chair, and four equal length twigs which
will form the two front legs and the seat. The chair should stand no
more than four inches tall (including the back).
Bend the long
twig, and hot glue one of the smaller pieces in between the two ends
where you want the seat to be.This will be the back of the seat. Hot
glue on each side of the bent twig facing towards you a smaller twig;
these will be the sides of the seat. Glue the front piece of the seat
to these side twigs. Glue the two front legs to the seat so that the
chair legs are even. If you wish, wrap the vines around the chair back
and legs. Cut the scrap fabric to form a "back" and a "seat" - these
are NOT to be as wide as the chair, but will fit inside of the twigs.
Using your needle and thread, attach the material to the chair using a
whip stitch. Hot glue small dried flowers at the top of the chair. This
technique can be used to make all kinds of fairy furniture, from tables
to beds, to sofas - all of which are sure to delight your fairies as
much as your children!
Things to do on Beltane:
* Sleep outside. If you can't go camping, try pitching
a tent in the back yard or putting sleeping bags on
Go out at sunrise and wash your faces in the morning dew. Folk wisdom
says that this will help your inner beauty to shine on the outside.
* Explore the Beltane symbolism in the Robin Hood stories by watching movies or reading books.
* Honor your bodies by decorating them with henna, temporary tattoos, or body glitter. Brush each others hair.
Make wreaths of flowers and vines to wear. Daisy chains are
particularly appropriate, but silk flowers can be kept and used year
* Have a crowning ceremony to pronounce everyone lords and ladies of May.
Make bread in the shape of a star. Using frozen prepared bread dough is
an easy shortcut. Eat a huge feast outdoors with your bread, barbecued
meat, fruit and green salads and strawberries and ream for dessert!
* Walk the boundaries of your property to repair any winter damage and plant flowers.
Create festive May baskets to fill with flowers. Recycled strawberry
baskets can be fun to decorate. Pick wildflowers, or ask a florist for
imperfect flowers. Give the finished baskets to neighbors.
Invite friends and family to dance the Maypole. If it isn't possible to
be outdoors, you can use a Yule Tree stand to set up a pole indoors.
(Check out the Internet or your local library for more information on
the logistics of such an undertaking. )
* Hang small edible
treats on trees and bushes and let your guests nibble where they may.
Make sure nothing gets left out overnight that could harm animals!
Leap the bonfire! With care, it is possible for children to participate
as well. Only a small fire is necessary; even a fire in your cauldron
will suffice. Call out the things you want to cleanse or bring into
action as you jmp.
* Take time after little ones are abed for the adults to connect with the primal sensual nature of Beltane
Beltane Flower Circlet Crowns
- Fresh flowers of any kind with short (2-3") stems
- A metal nail file (the kind with the point and plastic handle)
days, you see all of these gorgeous chainmail head pieces... at
exorbitant prices. Certainly these pieces are very beautiful, but for
those of us more frugally minded Pagans, flower chains and crowns are
much more economic.
process of making flower crowns is a very simple, relaxing one. I love
to sit in the field of my backyard in the middle of a buttercup patch
(buttercups are great for this!) and make these. It may be a bit time
consuming, but sometimes we just need to escape the non-stop, on-the-go
world we live in and relax! This is great for that. Pick
up a flower and with the nail file, poke a hole in the part of the
flower just under the blossom. Slip the stem of another flower into the
hole, cutting the stem if you need to. Now poke a hole in that flower,
and slip another flower 's stem into that hole. Continue until you have
a chain long enough to sit on your head. To complete the circle, poke a
hole in the last flower, and slip the stem of the first flower into
that hole. From here, you can add more flowers, greenery, or even
ribbons. Now you have a pretty circlet of flowers to wear in your
spring and summer rites.
will need: gravevine wreath, variety of flowers, greenery (ivy,
rosemary, etc), decorative items (ribbons, figurines, etc), Scissors,
glue or hot glue gun.
- The greenery goes on first.
- Weave, wrap, or tuck it into the grapevein.
- Glue it in strategic places.
- Ivy, rosemary, and moss are a few ideas. Use fresh or dried.
Place a variety of flowers loosly around the greenery and glue them in place.
After all flowers are in place, add ribbons, figurines, or crystals. Use this wreath for the top of your maypole.

will need: springs of greenery, variety of fresh or dried flowers,
ribbons, floral wire, wire cutters, scissors, glue or hot glue gun.
Use a heavy wire backbone that runs the length of the garland.
Begin by starting at one end, attaching each bundle of greenery over the last.
Use floral wire to attach the bundles to the backbone.
all the greenergy and flowers have been attached with floral wire, add
ribbons, bells, beads, crystals and any other decorative items you
Put this over a doorway or on a mantle.
Flat piece of wood
Small wooden pole
A wooden knob for the top of the pole
Red and white lengths of ribbon
Beltane symbols: Nuts, spring flowers, strings of beads, miniature apples, for decoration around the bottom of the maypole
drill hole into the flat wood base to insert pole or simply glue it to
the bottom securely. Glue four equal lengths of ribbon to top, and seal
knob on pole with glue, on top of the ribbons. Glue or place decorative
items around base.
ritual, the maypole can be wound. Simply weave the ribbons in and out
of each other in as pleasing a pattern as possible, fastening with
sticky-tac or other less permanent adhesive (so that this apparatus can
be used again next year in ritual). The symbolism of the maypole is
that of the male phallic symbol (the pole itself) being enveloped by
the female vaginal symbol (the ribbons). Also, the winding, when done
in a traditional form by dancers around a real maypole, sometimes
symbolize male-female mating with the red and white ribbons themselves.

· Construction Paper
· Glue or Tape
1. Cut a triangle shape out of bright colored construction paper. Make the point flat and the long edge rounded
2. Roll the triangle into a cone and glue or tape the 2 sides together.
3. Cut a strip of construction paper that is approximately 12 inches by 2 inches.
4. Glue or tape it onto the top of your cone to make a handle.
Fill your cone basket with flowers (real, silk, or home-made) and give
them to your family & friends or hang it on your neighbor's
doorknob without getting caught!
Mini Beltane Basket
- Toilet Tissue Roll
- Construction Paper or Wallpaper Scraps
- Markers or Paint
- Pipe Cleaner
the toilet tissue roll in half so you have 2 circles. Cover one opening
with construction paper and tape securely in place. Cut a strip of
construction paper or wallpaper to cover the outside of the toilet
tissue roll. Use a hole punch and make 2 holes near the open hole of
the toilet tissue roll. Make sure the holes are directly across from
each other. Thread one end of the pipe cleaner into each hole. Fold the
ends up and wrap around the pipe cleaner to make the handle. Fill your
mini basket with real or home-made flowers and try to hang it on your
neighbor's doorknob without getting caught!

ounce or 1/2 liter plastic pop bottle, Craft knife, Bumpy chenille stem
(or regular chenille stem), Hole punch, Narrow ribbon, Real flowers or
handmade flowers Directions:
1. Cut the bottle with the craft knife about 4" from the bottom. Discard top.
2. Punch a hole on opposite sides directly across from each other.
Insert one end of the chenille stem from the outside to the inside.
Bring it up and twist to the stem above the bottle edge. Repeat for
other end of the chenille stem.

Betlaine Pressed Flowers
flowers from outside on a nice day. If the flowers are wet, you will
have to let them air dry just a little before you press them. Press the
flowers by placing them between the pages of heavy books. Old phone
books are perfect for this. Make sure you place paper markers in the
pages that have flowers so you will not have to go looking for them
when you are done. Be sure not to use nice books or books that you are
fond of as the flowers will often stain the pages. Once the flowers are
in the books, stack the books on top of each other and place in an
out-of-the-way spot. Check the flowers in one week. If they are not
completely dry, leave them for another week. Flowers usually take about
two weeks to dry. When the flowers are done you can make things with
them such as bookmarks, stationery and cards. To glue the flowers down,
use a mixture of 1/2 glue and 1/2 water. Paint the backs of the flowers
and glue them down. Then use some of the glue mixture to coat the
flowers. You can make clear bookmarks by pressing the flowers between
two pieces of laminate paper.
Beltane Paper Flowers
You will Need:
- colored construction paper or tissue paper
- craft sticks or popsicle sticks
flowers on the colored construction paper. You can use each color for
different flowers or only one color. Use your imagination when making
flowers. You can trace objects like your hand or a toy or use stencils.
Color the flowers with the crayons and paste the flower parts together.
Glue the flowers onto the sticks and then add leaves that you have cut from green construction paper.
flowers can be placed anywhere for decoration and look great in
baskets. You can stick them in a flower pot of dirt or crumpled paper
for lovely potted flowers that will never die. These flowers also make
great gifts for loved ones.
Flowery Beltane Hat
flowery May Day hat An elegant summer hat draped with fresh flower.
Isn't this a great idea to celebrate the May Day. The real green way!
- Poster board
- a marker pen
- one soft pencil
- a pair of compasses
(one of those found in the geometry box)
- a ruler
- transparent tape
- twisted paper for decoration
1.Before getting started, fix up the size of the hat roughly.
Place a ruler flat on the top of the wearer's head. Mark the two ends
that hold the length of the wearer's head with a bright colored marker
pen. Read the length. Place the ruler on a paper and mark these two
marked-ends along the ruler with two dots.
2. Now, use a pair
of compasses to draw a circle on colored poster board. Fix up the
pencil from the needle of the compass at a length equal to the one read
by the ruler.
3. For a better design, add some 5cm or 2 inches
above the length you fix up. Now complete drawing the circle. When the
first circle is finished, draw a second circle 2.5 cm or 1 inch inside
the first one.
4. Make even cuts up to that 2.5 cm/1 inch deep
from the edge of the paper to the penciled inner circle. Cut out the
paper around the outer circle. This will help you to bend the
posterboard along the line of the drawn circle. Fold the cut flaps of
paper straight way up. (as shown in the picture)
5. For the
sides of the hat, cut a strip of paper 7.5 cm/3 inches wide and long
enough to fit around the folded-up edge of the paper circle. Then draw
a line lengthways down the middle of the paper.
6.Make even cuts in the same way as before along the drawn line on the paper strip. Spread glue along the outer uncut side.
the glued side of the paper band around the edge of the paper circle,
ensuring that all the cut strips are neatly attached to it.
a larger circle of card of contrasting color for the brim. Ideally it
should be 7.5 cm/ 3 inches wider all around than the crown.
Cut out a circle from the center of the brim that measures the same
diameter as the crown. Place the crown right way up on a surface, with
the cut strips around the sides of the hat folded outwards. Then slide
the brim into position. When you know it fits neatly, turn the hat
over. And glue the cut strips in place on the brim. Secure them with
transparent tape and leave to dry.
10. Add finishing touches with wide ribbons, bows and flowers.

Make a small pillow (I usually do a 5x5 square) from an interesting material. Leave one end open for stuffing.
Gather, mix and empower the following herbs:
Sage and Sandlewood for blessing and protection
Lavender for domestic tranquility
Rose petals to honor their love
Vervain for bright witchery
A couple drops of cinnamon oil.
Stuff the pillow and sew the open end shut.
Decorate as desired
In sacred space, dedicate it under the auspices of the Lord and the Lady
you're blessing your friends home for them, include the pillow in the
ritual. If they're doing their own home blessing, offer it as a house
