Leo - The Lion

July 23 – August 22

The zodiac signs and meanings of Leo is about expanse, power and exuberance. Leo’s are natural born leaders, and they will let you know it as they have a tendency to be high-minded and vocal about their opinions. That’s okay, because if you observe, the Leo is usually correct in his/her statements. Leo’s have a savvy way of analyzing a situation and executing swift judgment with a beneficial outcome. It comes from being a leader. They are brave, intuitive, and also head-strong and willful. Beneath their dynamic persona lies a generous, loving, sensitive nature that they do not easily share with others. They might be a bit bossy, but those who know them understand this comes from a source need to do good, not (usually) from an inflated ego.

RE:AUGUST SIGN IN THREAD
(Date Posted:08/01/2010 10:58 AM)

Welcome to August!

Mike's birthday is the end of this month, and we spent the first part of the morning working up his Birthday Calendar.   We are definitely getting too carried away with our celebrations!  The only thing I can say in our defense is that we are getting older and we are feeling the need to 'make hay while the sun is shining'.  Ha!

Wonder of wonders ~ Shogun and Chrystie are curled up 'butt to butt' next to me on the bed as I type.   No guarantee that in 10 minutes they won't be trying to kill each other, but for right now ~ this minute ~ lovely!   He was an absolute horror right before we turned off the lights last night, so I threw him out of the bedroom.   I didn't let him back in until I got up to visit the bathroom around 4 Am, and by the time I got back in bed he was curled up in my place, and just as sweet as can be from then on.   He doesn't like to be banished from where we all are.  This is a Good Thing, I think.

I've never had a cat that wanted to be in the same world with the vacuum cleaner before either.  I have got to try to get a video of Shogun and the vacuum!  I saw it, but I don't believe it myself ~ lol.

I do think a Patio Home would be the best for us, as much as we have always wanted an 'acerage'.  Just not practical for us any more. The Patio Homes have very small yards, but I find that we aren't spending a lot of time in the yard these days, so maybe that's ok.  The neighborhood was nice.   Of course I really, really want a home with a view, but unless we win the lottery I don't think that's likely.
They all cost too much, but since we are getting to the point where our bodies won't let us take lovely trips and things, maybe it's just as well to spend more for a house that we can live in without worry.   Maybe we can get a reverse mortgage, since we don't really care about leaving an "estate" to our heirs.  Or, maybe ~ and more likely ~ we'll just stay where we are.

Did I tell you that Mike's brother and sister-in law, and Sister and brother-in-law are on an Alaskan Cruise 'as we speak'?   I'm so envious I should type this in Envy Green!  They wanted us to come with them, but with my TM issues and even more with Mike's balance issues, we didn't think a ship was the place for us to be.  What a wonderful trip that has to be.  We've always wanted to take it, but now when we could ~ we can't.   Figgers.

Lou Ann, I managed to miss the entire wedding ~ and now I'm curious about it.   I really am curious about how much it actually cost.  I'll bet they got a substantial amount of "freebies" to help with the ultimate cost.   It always seems so wrong that celebrities get hotel rooms and clothes and jewels "comped", and we 'poor folks' have to pay.   I do understand ~ there's good advertising in saying "Chelsea slept here", but it still seems wrong for the rich not to have to pay, and the poor to have to pay extra.  Hey, who said life was gonna be fair?

I really think that we are on the same political page on a lot of issues ~ and of course on entirely different pages on others.  That's what makes America strong ~ or used to ~ having different opinions and values represented.  We all gain when we have to look at other's opinions, I think.   I am in total agreement with you on the imigration issues.   We ARE a Nation of imigrants, BUT our imigrant ancestors played by the rules and became Americans.  Today's gate crashers do neither.

I grew up in New Mexico and many of my friends were second or third generation Mexicans.  I had such admiration for their parents who spoke TWO languages and knew more about 'my' country than I did.  They had to, in order to become citizens in those days.  I thought they were awesome, and their kids, my friends, were all over-achievers.  How could I feel anything but admiration for them?   Now, we have people who have been living in America for 20 years who don't speak English, and don't intend to learn.   By all means come, if you are willing to play by the rules and want to assimilate!   If you want to live in Northern South America financed by American citizens ~ please go home.

I'm so sorry you didn't get to see Leigh and the boys ~ I surely hope they come and spend some time with you.  You are so completely there for them.

It actually hurt ~ my eyes stinging ~ to hear how your father insulted and embarassed you in front of his relatives.   I know some people do that thinking it will "help" us conform to whatever it is we are not conforming to that they believe we should (weight, getting married, having kids ~ whatever).  Of course the total opposite is what happens.  He may have meant well, but it hurts me to hear how he hurt you, and made you feel bad about yourself.   I wish you could see yourself through my eyes, beautiful and giving and with a smile that radiates love.   How many skinny minnies, absorbed with their own appearance, can say that?

Now that you mention it, I do remember your talking about your youngest brother being spoiled and a bit self-involved.  Somehow, I didn't put that together with Leigh, because we were all so focused on what he was going through.   Hopefully his time with Marcia has helped him to grow as a person, bad as it has been.

I don't have to tell you to enjoy Harry Potter ~ I know you will.

Wishing a Swell Sunday and an Awesome August to everyone!

Dorothy

Hello Cuppa Gals, or should I say Dorothy.

I still have not seen my brother and the boys.  Hopefully Mon. but if not, then for sure Tues. as they are coming for supper.  Until then I wait and hope.

Maybe you should spread Mikes birthday celebration out a bit more so that it does not get to be too much!  Extend it to 3 weeks if needed, lol.  I think the Patio Home sounds nice and knowing that there is someone to care for the outdoor chores is nice.  We no longer have to worry as it is part of the apt. 3 rent deal that they do the mowing and shoveling.  Of course we did it for many years and never got anything for doing it.

I too have always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise, but like you am quite unable.  We always think we have forever.  We are so foolish.

I agree that we think similarly on most political agendas.  We are a country made up of immigrants, but as you said, come in legally.  I just do not understand why this whole situation has been ignored for so long?  Just beyond me.

It brought tears to my eyes, knowing that you were upset with the way my father treated me.  I do not know why he did it.  I know my weight always bothered him.  My father was an alcoholic and of course that comes with a whole lot of issues.  All my life nothing I ever did was good enough.  I was very bright and came home with straight A's, so proud to show my dad...he looked at it and said...Is that the best you could do?  He thought he was funny, but I was devastated.  I have always been good at art and drawing.  Have had my work displayed in school and area art shows when I was in school.  My father would critique everything I did and find fault in all of it.  I never seemed to get beyond all his criticisms.  Oh well, all water under the bridge and unimportant now.

I did not watch Harry Potter.  The "Librarian" movies were on, all 3 in a row and I had never seen them before so I watched them instead.  I enjoyed them.  I seem to recall you mentioning them?

Well, I have to get to sleep.  I have an apt with my Ophthalmologist at 8:30am tomorrow.  Have a great day.

Hugs,

Good Morning Lou Ann
Guess there's no point in saying hello to everyone else.    Is it something we said?   I think we're both still sweet smelling.  Are they all having a party somewhere else and we are not invited?   Sheesh!

Oh, well.  We'll just party without THEM!   Ha!

I'm glad Leigh and the boys are coming for dinner tomorrow night.  I hope they come by sooner, but at least you will be able to see them For Sure tomorrow.
Is the reunion this coming weekend?    I wish you could go, but I really understand your decision not to.  I'm having so much trouble lately that I'd definitely make the same decision.

It's really sad how the things we experienced when we were young and vulnerable effect us all of our lives.   Now we can understand that the problems and issues were not of our making, and maybe even understand those who hurt us enough to forgive them ~ but somehow we still carry that criticism or hurt with us.  Our logical minds say "He (or she) was wrong, and that judgement has nothing to do with me!", but in our emotional mind, we carry it with us forever.  I wish there were some way to dump that trash.

I got all three Librarians for Mike, and we've watched them several times.   We both liked them before, but we've enjoyed them even more without commercials.  I did see that they were all on, one after another.  How fun!  I wish they would make more.

They have forcast rain every day, but we have yet to see any here.   It's pretty darn hot, too.   I repeat ~ I'm so glad we have AC!

Not a lot planned for today.   We may go to BJ's for an early dinner and bring home something for tomorrow's dinner.

Hope everyone else is ok, and we hear from them soon.

RE:AUGUST SIGN IN THREAD
(Date Posted:08/02/2010 11:14 AM)

Good Morning!

Hi gals!  Had a whirlwind weekend.  Saturday we did chores and got ready so that we could have a going away party for my folks.  They are going to Elko Nevada to visit my sister and her family.  Two of the grandkids have had children in the last couple months so they have two new great grandkids to see for the first time.  Any excuse for a get together.  It was a really good one as everyone pitched in and brought food and everything was scrumptious!  Anyway, sorry I didn't pop in.

First off, thank you so much Dorothy for putting the August page up.  Barb always makes such a lovely one.  Thank you Barb for making it!  Sorry I missed friendship day.  That's me, always a day late and a dollar short.

Hi Dorothy!  So you and Mike worked up his birthday calendar.  What all are you going to be doing to celebrate?  I think that since we are all getting older we should do everything we can!  I also would have loved to have gone on an Alaskan cruise, but I seem to have missed the boat.  I do hope that Mike's brother and sister enjoy their cruise.  I also am pea green with envy.  I think you're right about the idea of a patio home where someone takes of the yard work and shoveling.  Dave is regretting that he put in so much lawn.  I remember when he decided on how big, the kids told him if you plant it you will cut it.  They are both gone and it really is true.  As he gets older he'll probably be hoping and praying for some neighbor kid to want to ride his lawn mower.  Either that or he will spread gravel.

Hi Lou Ann!  I am also horrified at the way your dad taunted you.  I was always told I was too heavy and a clutz, like a bull in china closet.  Stuff like that really sticks with you.  I was never going to be a ballet dancer, but I didn't need all my hopes of ever being thin or graceful dashed.  My brother picked on his daughter because of her weight, as did my sister with her daughter.  It's just wrong.  How stupid to give a child such pain and angst.  I'm so sorry that your dad didn't know better.  Like you say, it is history.  Like Dorothy says, we think you are beautiful and kind and giving and our own little ray of sunshine!  I do hope that your brother stops in to see you soon.  You know how you mentioned that your dad was an alcoholic with all those resulting problems, My theory is people who pick on others are trying to make themselves feel better.  Hope your ophthalmologist appointment goes well.

Oh yeah, Dorothy recommended the Librarian movies to me, and we watched them and loved them!  I also wish they'd make more!  Such fun movies!

I have no idea what I'm going to be doing today, but I will be doing it in a clean house as Brandi is here cleaning the house for me.  Hope you all have a marvelous Monday!

Moving Mary Ann's post over from the July Sign In Thread.

Good Morning My Dear Sweet Cuppa Gals...

I know I have been absent for a couple of days so I'm not going to try and catch up with all of the posts...I even tried to get in one day & couldn't...That's alright I'm here now and that's all that counts...I had Company and Katie & Dan were moving even more stuff in, which meant my spare bedroom was a mess when I got home on Saturday Oh My Goodness it hit me like a hoarder show...Plus on Friday I couldn't get my sugar to go back up and I was really weak and not feeling well at all...

Sarah came over & brought me food to eat fruits, and some chocolate cake...I had tried everything and my sugar level would not raise...I even ate two of my glucose tablets and still it wouldn't budge...

I called Ann she said drink a coke non-diet and it will go up to 140 or there a bouts...Ann was exactly right it went up to 144 thank God...From then on it was okay...I had gone down to 54...I called the ER and they said if I didn't get it up quickly then to come in because I was entirely to low...Even though Ann says it's not...I took my Dad into the ER when he was 56...

Anyway I was exhausted from that until today...Phew...I'm feeling really better today because when I went home it was hot in the mobile and I couldn't get comfortable...The night before my brother had a barbecue and I went because I had too not because I wanted to and I crashed into bed when I got home...

Kevin & Emily came home over this week-end, that was my company...Kevin, Emily, & I went to Joanne's and got batting, thread, &  hook & loop tape for his sofa cover and we spent all the rest of the day @ Sarah's house making the cover which believe me between the Home Dec/Fabric & Thread, came out looking so awesome and you couldn't even tell it was home made...Kevin was so pleased he was beside himself and Emily was too they both just loved the fabric that I picked out & I am going to make his pillows to go along with his new sofa...Dang it I don't think we took pictures, but you should have seen the look on Kevin's face when he left...Sarah performed a 'Martha Stewart' technique on the 'Cushions Back' too long to explain but it worked out perfect...

The color is 'Camel' with a sheen and so soft whichever way you touch it...Yummy fabric and looks like a million bucks...Emily will make a Duvet cover for the bottom of the 'Daybed' and Kevin will be set...

I used this particular microfiber material because it it 'believe it or not' wash & wear, but he can spot clean it whenever he wants to its spot clean friendly so there's really no problem with it...It will wipe clean easily with water if you catch the stain right away, & then I would use 'club soda' other wise...

Lou Ann...

I see by your post that your brother is planning on partying too while he's visiting...I just hope he keeps his wits about him...This is really hard to do when your drinking!!! Ahem!!! Sorry but I think he's moving way too fast with the girl & then having the boys meet her...I disagree, you go out on dates & you don't come home you stay out which means a babysitter, and you don't bring another woman home until you find 'THE ONE' that your serious about...Then you bring that woman home and introduce her to her new family...

Then you have them meet, and you tell your kids that you've found a woman that loves you & that you love and you'd them to get to know and like her too...Now if your not careful enough you might have a new one...

Baby in the oven... Katie & Dan tried to wait but not hard enough albeit...Katie has just finished her first trimester & WE got to see the BABY!!! OMG!!!

Every time I see an Ultra Sound complete with 3D photography I am totally amazed @ the little person inside...Tears always come to my eye's and I think, how perfect God was in the way HE did things...

Seems young people today don't get upset if that happens these days like we, did it's just an oop's oh well...I think that's fine if your in love and getting married for the right reason...Otherwise it's a catastrophe...

Jeff hasn't even seen this girl or gone out with her...Rule of thumb you don't bring another person into this equation unless your going to marry them it's too confusing for the children...Done preaching....Off my box...LOL

Be back later gotta get a walk in before the heat sets in, really hot...

Thanks Dorothy for bringing Mary Ann's post over.  Thanks for all you've been doing while I've been in la la land.  Hope your kitties are behaving still!  What all did you plan for Mike's birthday?  Inquiring minds would like to know
Hi Mary Ann!  Remember that trick when your sugar is low.  Drink a coke.  Makes sense that it would bring your sugar up because they are so full of sugar.  The sofa cover you made for Kevin sounds really nice!  Who is Emily?  Is this his sweetheart?  Wife?  I have lost track.  Take care of yourself!
Brandi came yesterday and cleaned.  I did not tell her I wanted the floors mopped completely, so she just did the kitchen and under the table.  I really want everything mopped next time and I can't imagine how to ask her.  I'm sure I should just say point blank that I want all of the furniture moved and everything mopped.  She will do whatever I ask but I have to ask, I guess.  If I were doing it, I would move the furniture and mop everything, so that's what I want done.  I wish I wasn't such a lousy boss.  I wish I wasn't a gutless wonder.  I'll have to force myself to ask for what I want.  After all, she can't read my mind.  I have some laundry going, and nothing much else that I have to do today.  It is looking like rain outside, and it's only 75° out there.  Maybe I will go sit down on the deck  until it rains, and enjoy the cool weather.

Wishing you all a terrific Tuesday whenever you do!  Hugs,

Copied Mary Ann's second post over from the July Sign In Thread.
D.

*Merhaba*

Yeah...I now hide in my bedroom & watch TV or whatever...I'll have to go over and look and see if I missed any tags...I think that Jeff and the boys need to spend one on one time with your side of the family for awhile and get to know you, for you will all be his support group because your family...Like we are with Sarah & Pat, Katie & Dan, & I'm sure we'll be doing the same thing for Teresa & Josh when they get married WAYYYY down the road...I hope...

I can't get too excited over the wedding and I really haven't been paying any attention to it, we have our own going on...If they have the money to spend, then let them...I on the other hand would have a simple wedding just like my Niece Katie is having and give the extra money we could have spent to a favorite charity...

Oh Katie already counted on paying the utilities because their not paying rent and that's fine with me...Wow it was so hot I set her thermostat on 77' Monday evening until it cooled off then I turned it off...Then the dogs & I all crapped out and went to sleep until dinner time which is @ 5:00pm for the puppies and I was late for about a half an hour, so I quickly got to it and fixed their dinner just as Maggie gave me a good swat with her club...I know...I'm going right now...Gees, Louise...

You see even the dogs are more comfortable when the house is cooler...Otherwise their both running around looking for some trouble to get into and their just plain hot & miserable...I just went out and did a 3/4 of a mile walk, I know because Ann measured it out in her card...It felt good until I started to get warm...

then the
started to heat up but I made it back to Ann's house without a dog bite, and also without any other mishap...

RE:AUGUST SIGN IN THREAD
(Date Posted:08/03/2010 10:53 AM)

Good Morning!

Apparently Mike got a call on his Cell Phone on Sunday from the whole clan in Alaska.  The problem is that since we are anti-social, we usually we have both of our Cell Phones turned off unless we are expecting a call, or in a position where we might be making one.   Mike's sister usually calls him every Sunday morning, so he leaves it on then, but otherwise it is off.  He wasn't expecting to hear from her this last Sunday, so he missed it.   They always use the Cell to talk to each other because they all three (we all four, actually) have Verizon, and Verizon Folk can talk to each other without charge or using their minutes.

ANYWAY, they called from Denali, where they were watching the bears.   (Oh, I really do have to type this in ENVY GREEN!   How amazing that must be!  We've seen it on the Nature Chanel, but they are seeing it in person.   GREEN, I tell you!)    I'm so glad they all seem to be doing well health wise and having a great time ~ even if I am GREEN.)

We decided that it's time to replace the old glasses we've had since we moved here in '93.  I will box them up to give to either ARC or the Vets the next time they have a pick-up.  I decided to be extravagant and upgrade to Bodum glasses (double insulated glass), but instead of 8 I ordered 4.  Thought I would see how that worked, and if it's not enough, I'll order 4 more later.  We do VERY little entertaining these days.   Anyway, they're coming in different shipments, and we got the four 15 oz glasses last night.  They're really nice ~ BUT ~ one of them arrived shattered, still in the bubble wrap, in the box.  The other three were fine.  All of the packing material looked fine, so I'm assuming it must have been broken at the factory or the Bodum Warehouse.   I went to Amazon and then to the company that actually sent the glasses, and their instructions for  returns were terrible.   I actually got angry, because it appeared that they were just making it impossible to return a damaged product.  I sent them an email explaining the situation and asking for their help.  (And yes, I was polite.  Ha!)
This morning I received a response apologizing and saying they would send me another set of 2 glasses at no charge ~ better yet, I don't have to box up the other set of 2 (one broken and one good) and send it back!  So, now we'll have 5 15 oz glasses, unless we decide to buy some more, and we should have 4 8.5 oz glasses on the way from another source.

It really will be nice to have new glasses.  I just never seem to replace anything no matter how tired I get of it or them.  I buy things for other people, but never for myself unless I really need them.  It's about darn time!

We have so many other glasses of different sizes and shapes and I'm going to get rid of most of them, too.  The cupboard is so overcrowded it looks awful.

I think we'll be having another nice lazy day.  I'm not sure what we will get done, if anything.   Of course there is much we SHOULD be doing ~ lol.

I left a Memory Teaser in another thread for you to play with.  I need to do these things from time to time to make sure I'm not 'in decline'.  Ha!

annnieM, your whirlwind weekend sounded like fun, and how neat for your folks to get to meet their new great grands!

I think Mike's birthday is going to take at LEAST three weeks to celebrate ~ lol.  After mine, he said he was going to limit his, but then he started thinking about places he wanted to go and the list increases every day.  Ha!

I have the same problem asking Lisa (or before that Kim) to do the things she isn't doing.  It's uncomfortable for me to ask, even though she will do whatever I ask.   She does a good job (as did Kim), and I feel like I'm criticizing when I point out something else that needs to be done, or something she missed.  Still, we ARE paying for it, and we should have it done the way we want.

Oooh, cool temps and rain.    How nice that sounds.  They keep telling us we're going to get rain, but we don't, and it's in the 90s.

Mary Ann, as you can see I copied your last two posts over from the July thread so everyone will be sure to see them.
Oooo, Moving Day.  It doesn't sound like fun a'tall!  Is everyone settled in now pretty much?   I hope they are treating you well ~ if I know you, you will turn yourself into their servant.  They're the young ones, and you're doing them a big favor by 'adopting' them, so let them help!   That's an order!

I think that's a great idea for Katie to pay the utilities in leiu of rent.  They will likely go up a bit with three (or four?) of you living there.  Good for her!

I always think of blood sugars being too high, and not too low, but that's the problem Mike's brother was having before too ~ they couldn't get his sugar UP.  I'm so glad Ann's trick worked!   I can imagine how exhausted you must have felt with the low blood sugar and everything else that was going on.

Oh my, the bed cover you made sounds lovely!

Have a fun day everyone!

Moving Mary Ann again.

Good Morning, To The Third Day Of August...

Dorothy,

Sounds to me like Lisa has stopped being fair with her love...LOL...Yep I remember you telling us that
Shogun isn't afraid of the vacuum cleaner, but yesterday Lisa was actually Vacuuming HIM, with the  UPHOLSTRY ATTACHMENT...GEESE LOUISE...

SHOGUN was grabbing at it & then wallering with it...He should be on YouTube!    Too funny!    Lisa  played and played with him, and he loved it.  Don't I feel guilty  keeping him with grumpy old Mike & Dorothy, who don't play very much anymore. I'm sure that Chrystie wasn't neglected sitting in your arms getting some lovin'...Lisa rolled up the entry way rug to polish the wood floor, and Shogun crawled inside the rolled up carpet so  they could play some more.  that will Teach ME to leave my camera upstairs!

Chrystie was a bit neglected, but she sat on Mike and me and got some love ~ just not as much as she usually gets from Lisa.

Oooo you went to look at new homes, I think that is a wise move for you...Ranch style Patio Homes. I quite love them too...Since you've reached the 'Mature' time of your life...I love how they keep away from saying 'Senior,'  They are nice.  Maybe  we should consider them.    Pricey, but  you really do need a one level house before you have to start crawling up the stairs.

I actually do agree I watch my Aunt Jane in Missouri having to go down to the 'COLD' basement to do laundry and she has no laundry chute in her home...That is one thing I would ask her son to do for her is put in a laundry chute or dumb waiter whichever works so just doing the laundry is easier, because I think it's just horrendous...She hangs clothes out on the line and once the laundry and it's so far to the clothesline she does opt to use Uncle Ralph's four wheeler to carry the laundry down to the basement from the line...

I too like the idea of a Patio Home for you, where someone else is responsible for all the yard work and snow removal ~ for a price.    Right now we're fine, but if Davis goes to college, we'll be back in the praying-for-a-snow-shoveler mode.

No Dorothy I think your smart looking at homes now...Remember if you buy in a subdivision you get that service, you join the home owners association and there are other perks that go along with them that make them a better idea then a 2-story home...This from the person who always wanted one her whole life...I cannot have one as of 1982 because of my 'Fibromyalgia' and now I have Arthritis on top of it, with 'Stenosis Of The Spine, thrown in for good measure...Well that took care of that dream...

Oh you visited that Soda Shop in Golden that you were telling us about.  Yay ~ Well, how was it??? Did they actually know how to make a Chocolate Soda!!!  I'm so sorry that  Mike couldn't get a Root Beer Malt, but I'm glad that the Chocolate Malt he did get was yummy.

By the time we got home, we were too pooped to pop in. Gee I think I've heard that before somewhere...LOL... You went through your new email (29 messages!) how brave of you...

annnieM, sorry you have to go the weekend without a clean house ~ not that I suspect it's very 'dirty'.    Does Brandi clean every other week like Lisa does?

I didn't watch the news either and I didn't miss hearing all about the wedding & stuff...I can't believe spending a mere $100,000 on a Wedding it's obscene totally obscene there I will say it again...
Geese Louise!!!

If they mobile was 75-78' all the time I'd be a happy camper...
Your exactly right...The kids are going to pay for the extra utitlites they've already told me that & I'm fine with it because right now they are not able to pay rent, both of their jobs end sometime in the summer so they'll be penniless for sure except for Katie...Katie has some money saved up from he college fund...She's graduated so now it'll come in handy...Dan will try to find a job, here I hope he finds one in Redding so he'll be close when then Baby starts to come or if there's a problem 'God Forbid'

Lou Ann, I'm so glad things are working out so Leigh, see I do know his name...I had another senior moment and called him Jeff again!!! I'm so sorry...

I am totally, and categorically against Obama's plan to bypass the Congress to Grant Administrative Amnesty to any person here illegally...I believe in going after business's who hire them, and then sock them with a fine, and then send the illegal alien back home...And, No I'm not happy with Congress at all these days but I am sure as heck not for making Congress irrelevant it will destroy part of our checks & balances that the 'FOUNDING FATHER'S' had set up for us, there's a reason why, and more people need to go back and read their history books about it...About heads exploding I'm right with ya Dorothy!!! I can't abide this type of TRICKERY!!!

OMG!!! IS MY COUNTRY AS I KNOW IT GOING TO DISAPPEAR???

SAY IT ISN'T SO, PLEASE DOROTHY, SAY IT ISN'T SO!!!

HAVE A GREAT DAY???

RE:AUGUST SIGN IN THREAD
(Date Posted:08/03/2010 11:37 PM)

Hello my friends,
We had a lovely dinner of Ham, mashed potatoes and gravy and corn on the cob.  Mom planned it for my brother and his boys.  The supper turned out wonderful but life not so much.  Monday was my moms biweekly blood test.  They called her and said it had dropped into the 10 range(norm is 11.5 to 13.5 or higher) and that she should have it checked again on Tue. Or Wed.  We planned on Wed.  Since Leigh and the boys were coming over today.
Last night mom had horrible leg cramps that made her CRy and she was restless and could not sleep.  I put it to Leigh and the boys spending the day here.  But she slept late and then was acting a bit out of her norm and found out she thought today was Sat.  I thought that was weird.  Then she had a argument with the vacuum because she could not get the cord wound up and I think she cried so I went and fixed it and got worried.  The boys (Leigh's 2 and my sister Joanne's 2) and Leigh and Diane went to a local sports complex to play and then ate lunch out and then came here.  Diane was in the kitchen with mom, who told her about the blood work and admitted to feeling jittery.  So Diane said, you are not waiting till tomorrow, lets go get it checked now.  They did and before they even got home the clinic  called and I had to have her call them back. Before they went the first time they put the ham in the oven.  So mom called and they told her to go right over to the ER. Her hemoglobin had dropped into the 8 range...which means transfusion time.  They did tests and they did find blood in her bowel movement.  They admitted her and are giving her 3 units of blood and if it holds and does not drop, then she may get to come home tomorrow.  We are questioning the prior diagnosis of a type of anemia that breaks down the red blood cells as they go through her artificial valves.  But we are worried that that would be a gradual loss and hers are always so fast.  Time will tell I guess.  So, I peeled potatoes and got them on and my sister Suzanne came and did the corn with Josh's help and he mashed the potatoes, so it was a group accomplishment.  It was yummy!  Please say a prayer for my mom that she gets to come home tomorrow.
Hugs,

And a Happy Hump Day to you all,
and Happy Birthday Mr President.

I did get a few things done yesterday, most "notibly" I got the budget done (check books balanced, transfers made and the infamous budget book updated and balanced so we know how much we have to spend in each category).

Today, Mike has a haircut and he was going to take the Chrysler in for an emissions test so we can license it.  Pain in the tush, but it's the law in Colorado.  The Lincoln can go a couple of years more before it has to be emissions tested.
Breaking news:  He just decided to wait until next week to have the emissions test done.
We have a discount for a Pizza from a nearby Pizzeria, so we'll have them deliver our dinner for tonight and tomorrow night.
(Look Ma, no cooking! Yay!)

Mary Ann, I have a laundry chute ~ LOL.   Our bedroom is on the top level of the house, then down about 5 steps in the "Guest Wing" (guest room, office, guest bath and linin Closet and a landing overlooking the family room.   So, I take the towels from our bathroom to that landing and heave them over the rail to the family room below.  Of course I can't really do that with the "whites" and clothes that are in a clothes basket, so we have to actually carry them down stairs (the five steps to the 'guest' landing, then the 3/4 stairway to the living room, dining room and kitchen level, then another 4 or 5 steps to the family room & laundry room.....AND we have to carry everything back upstairs when it's done.   Guess my "chute" isn't a whole lot better than nothing.  Ha!    We really do need a one level house ~ badly!

I share your fear for our country unless something is done soon, and I'm afraid we're already too late to stop much of it.  It breaks my heart.

OMG ~ your surgery is scheduled, and so soon!  I think it's better to have it come up quickly like that than to have a due date a long time out that gives you more time to worry and stress.

Oh, you know we'll be praying for you.   Will you be going to Ann's afterwards, or coming 'home' since Katie is now living with you?   I need to know you won't be alone and without help.  You can't be hopping out of bed to cook and clean!   You need someone to wait on you for at least a while.  I would think with surgery that major, for a fair amount of tme.

Lou Ann, I'm so sorry your lovely get-together with Leigh and the boys was 'derailed' by your mom's hemoglobin drop.  She hasn't had that happen for a while, and now, of ALL times!   Isn't that just the way?   How miserable that she had to miss that wonderful dinner with the family.   Of course I will pray for her!  I'm glad that you did get to spend some time with them, but I know it wasn't the kind of fun time you would have had without the worry about your mom.

annieM, it seems like I didn't answer all of your quetions.
Mike's birthday isn't until the 30th, and he has chosen lots of different old favorite and new-to-us restaurants and carry out places to visit during his birthday WeekS.  I made a calendar for him like I did for me.  It's a hoot ~ you'd think we were the Prez and First Lady, or something.

Speaking of the First Lady, I see she is in Marbella Spain today.   I'VE been to Marbella!  It was many, many years ago, and it wasn't the Ritz Carlton, but it was a pretty nice Resort Hotel, which was part of a Cheapy Charter Package.  Ole'!   Lovely area.  I hope they show pictures on the news while she's there so I can "go back".

That trip was actually my H.S.Graduation gift to my oldest niece Mary Ann (Katie's mom).  There used to be a lot of "Cheapy Charter" travel packages offered "in the old days".   I took several, and took both of my nieces for their graduations (Catherine's trip was to Germany), and I took my mom to Hawaii one year.

Bodum is just a brand of glasses, but they double insulate so you have inner and outer glass (for want of a much better description).  They are hand blown and so much lighter than the old (cheap) leaded glass we've been using that they almost feel like plastic.  The idea is that they keep hot things hot and cold things cold, and the cold things don't make the glasses sweat.  We'll see.   I got Mike two 15 oz Bodum beer mugs that will be part of his birthday present.   He likes to keep one in the freezer for any kind of cold drink, and these should be nicer than 'regular' glass.  I hope.
I love that you are using your blue Depression Glass for "everyday"!

Have a great day everyone.

I have heard from several of our members…

This is from Debbie

Hi AnnnieM/Cuppa Gals

We are almost packed and we move this coming weekend
it's been going a bit rough theses days as our temp has been so high and sometimes it's so humid
nonetheless
we have been packing/fixing odds and ends and painting to leave this place ready for the next

Imagen...The owners offered to lower our rent $150.00 total to keep us but it has to be without my son and his family
and sadly it cannot be... but this too shall come to pass so we smile trusting God!

We're alive and well and move into a big three bedroom which is just a cross the way and it's going to be ok as we are just fine

We so give God Glory because my granddaughter does not have to change schools again
and that was our major focus more then getting older and murmering or complaining about the small stuff :)
it's the little things that make a big difference sometimes xoxox

so a quick up date/ a big hug to each and all our love always

talk with you all soon
Bye for now with -
love & blessings,
♥Debbie & Jay

This came from Hope.

Dear AnnieM.
Thank you very much { very belatedly} for your warm birthday wishes. It was so nice to hear from you.. I think of you so often and I really miss being an active cuppa gal. You  and the other gals were always so warm and welcoming. But as I am sure you know sometimes real life drops a few pebbles in your path. I have had so many health problems in the past year that I haven"t had the time or energy for much else----LOL I went to the hospital in May with a raging infection. I had every test in  the book and they couldn't seem to find the cause. After a month on antibiotics they finally decided it was  a very bad sinus infection and I ended up having surgery. My
Arthritis has also been  really acting up-----but I am getting better. On Monday of last week my husband had prostate surgery------so it has been one thing after another. enough about my troubles, how are you? I always think of you sitting out on your dick enjoying the sun----wish I could join you.
I keep you in my thoughts and praters.

Love
 Hope
