Krista Davis ~ Domestic Diva Mysteries
Gracious Living can be murder.
This is a Paperback Original series. Our protagonist Sophie Winston is 40-something, divorced but still friends with her ex-husband, Mars. She has bought out his share of the gracious home he inherited from his aunt which she dearly loves. She and Mars both loved the dog they rescued that they share custody of Daisy.
A childhood friend/Rival of hers, Natasha Smith, has a Martha Stewart type TV Show, and everyone , including Sophie's own mother and sister quotes Natasha and expects Sophie to follow her instructions.
In the first book, I decided that Natasha needed killing, and that was more than confirmed in the second book. She's overwhelming, ego centric, demanding AND . . she's living with Sophie's ex-husband! Sophie doesn't want Mars back, they parted amicabily and by mutual agreement, but she's getting way too much exposure to Natasha through him.
In the first book, she adopts an Ocicat kitten, Mochie, whose pattern is reversed ~ stripes instead of spots. Either he is much better behaved than MY new kitten, or 'Sophie' is a whole lot more tolerant.
She is also approched by a Newspaper Editor to create an 'anti-Natasha' column with tips for regular folks who don't want to be made to feel bad about not doing everything the Natasha way.
Both tips by Natasha and Sophie are included at the beginning of each chapter. Some of them are actually quite good ~ others . . . well . . .
Ha! I liked that there were occasional Web Sites shown when a particular product or concept was suggested.
I liked the first book more than I had anticipated, and went on to read the second immediately.
Ms Davis has a newsletter which I signed up for, and through that we emailed back and forth a bit. She seems delightful.
She has a great Blog that lets you see the real Mochie and Daisy as well as where Sophie lives and lots of tips and recipes.
