RE:WELCOME TO THE JANUARY 2014 CHECK-IN
(Date Posted:01/01/2014 10:24 AM)

Here's hoping 2014 proves to be a really good year for all of us, bringing good health, prosperity and happiness.

We saw 2013 out with our traditional New Year's Eve meal and a glass of Chandon Rose'.   We watched an hour or so of the New Year's Eve celebration in NY with the Fox crew and then went on to watch the first three hours of our Pride and Prejudice marathon.  It just never gets old!   We still have three hours to watch today, and I'm looking forward to it.

There was a fireworks display over the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver at 9PM and again at midnight.  From the Mall, I'm sure it was spectacular seeing the fireworks overhead, with all the crowds and fun.   It was not nearly as spectacular watching it at eye level from many miles away, but watching it from my recliner in the Man Cave with a glass of pink champagne wasn't too shabby for us old folks either ~ and a whole lot warmer, and not standing for hours!  Hafta say, I do love this.   And yes, we did wish each other a Happy New Year at the stroke of midnight.  Neither of us got up to go over and share a kiss though ~ lol.

Marcela did agree to come tomorrow afternoon instead of this morning ~~ then we were both awake before 7, so I guess we didn't need to ask her to change.   Ah, well.  I think we will enjoy having a lazy day.  Dinner is heat and eat (Stroganoff leftovers), the laundry is done and the Christmas decorations are down so there isn't a whole lot we HAVE to do.  (We won't discuss "The Budget". It's scary.)

What a spectacular new room you've created for us, and as always I love the new January sign in thread. January is Book Blitz month?   I think I'm going to like that a lot.  Ha!

Thank you so much for creating such a beautiful space for us ~ even when "us" is mostly just thee and me.

I just want to take a minute to start 2014 by telling you how very much you mean to me, how I look forward to coming in and seeing you each day, and how very much I wish 2014 would be a banner year for you, in every way.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

DOROTHY, THANKS FOR YOUR KIND WORDS.  IT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME AND I TOO LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR POSTS EACH DAY, ESPECIALLY SINCE YOUR LIFE IS MORE INTERESTING THAN MINE....IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH, LOL.  ALSO FOR YOUR UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.  YOU PUT UP WITH ALL MY PETTY COMPLAINTS AND HYSTERICS AND ALWAYS LEAVE ME MESSAGES THAT ARE SOOTHING AND MAKE ME FEEL BETTER.  YOU ARE SUCH A BLESSING TO ME AND I LOVE YOU.

NO GREAT PLANS FOR THE EVE.  WE WORKED ON THE JANUARY PAGE, MOM AND I.  SHE ALWAYS READS ME MY NOTES AND I TYPE THEM.  I HAVE LEARNED TO SAVE OFTEN EVEN THOUGH IT IS TIME CONSUMING.  LAST NIGHT WENT OFF WITHOUT A GLITCH.  NOT LOST POSTS OR ANYTHING.  THEN I TOOK A BREAK AND FINISHED THE NORA ROBERTS TRILOGY I WAS READING.  HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT I WILL READ NEXT.  FOR ENTERTAINMENT WE WATCHED "THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT" AND THE "THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT 2", MOM DREW THAT LINE AT "THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT 3", I THINK SHE WAS MUSICALED OUT.  BESIDES, IT WAS TIME FOR HER SHOW "BAGGAGE", WHICH I HATE.  WE WATCHED IT FOR A COUPLE HOURS AND SHE WAS SLEEPING SO I CHANGED THE CHANNEL...OF COURSE SHE WOKE UP AND I WAS WATCHING LAW AND ORDER SPECIAL VICTIMS, WHICH SHE DOES NOT LIKE.  CANNOT WIN.  I DECIDED NOT TO OPEN MY BOTTLE OF ARBOR MIST AND OPTED FOR A WINE COOLER INSTEAD.  THE FLAVOR WAS JAMAICAN ME CRAZY.  VERY YUMMY AND EASY GOING DOWN.  I RARELY DRINK AND I WAS FEELING WARM AND SLEEPY AFTER I DRANK IT AND STILL HAD THE SKIN TO DO HERE.  SO I WENT AND PUT SOME PEANUT BUTTER ON CRACKERS TO GET A LITTLE PROTEIN INTO ME TO PERK ME UP TO FINISH HERE.  A COUPLE OF MY TILES JUST DID NOT LOOK GOOD AND THERE WERE LAST MINUTE SEARCHES AND SUBSTITUTIONS...ONE OF WHICH WAS THE GOLD STARS ON BLACK WHICH I LOVE.  OVERALL, I AM HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS.

I HAD 2 EMAILS FROM FRIENDS YESTERDAY ABOUT THE MISSED WEEKEND THAT MADE ME FEEL BETTER AND THEY KEPT A WHITE ELEPHANT FOR ME.  LOL.  I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE THAT IT WILL BE A DOOZY, SINCE IN THE PAST WE HAVE REWRAPPED THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS GIFT TO GIVE THE PERSON WHO WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT.  NO ONES GETS AWAY.  IT WAS FUNNY THAT ALL MY FAMILY WERE HOME LAST NIGHT, BECAUSE ALL WERE PLAYING WORDS WITH FRIENDS.  SEEMS NO ONE WANTED TO GO OUT.  IT IS BITTERLY COLD HERE AND HE HAVE MAJOR WARNINGS FOR LAKE EFFECT SNOW.  NORMALLY WE WOULD BE FAR ENOUGH FROM LAKE MICHIGAN TO GET VERY LITTLE OF THAT, BUT WITH LAKE WINNEBAGO DIRECTLY ABOVE UP WE ARE IN THE WARNING.  IT IS 1° OUT RIGHT NOW AND WITH WIND CHILL IS IS -8°.  I WAS SO COLD WHEN I GOT UP THIS MORNING.  BRRRRR.  MY ROOM IS ALWAYS COLD.  PARTLY BECAUSE THERE IS NO STORM WINDOW ON THE WINDOW THE AIR CONDITIONER GOES IN AND THE FACT THAT THE RADIATOR IS A SMALL ONE IN A GOOD SIZE ROOM, WITH NO BASEMENT BELOW MOST OF IT.  I WAS AWAKE BY 7 AND COULD NOT GO BACK TO SLEEP BECAUSE I WAS COLD.  I GOT UP, MADE A CUP A CHAI AND BUNDLED INTO MY RECLINER WITH 2 BLANKETS.  ONE BEHIND MY BACK BECAUSE IT IS A LEATHER RECLINER AND IS SO COLD IN THE MORNING.  THE OTHER I PUT ON MY LAP AND OVER MY LEGS.  WITH THE CHAI AND TOAST AND IPAD I WAS NICE AND COMFY.  THEN SWITCHED TO THE LAP TOP TO COME HERE.

NO SPECIAL MEAL OR PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE DAY.  I WOULD BE TOTALLY HAPPY WITH PIZZA OR A BURGER...MY TWO FAVORITE FOODS, LOL.  IN THE CHEAP RANGE ANYWAY.  WOULDN'T MIND A NICE STEAK, BUT THOSE HAVE REALLY GOTTEN OUT OF THE BUDGET.  THEY SAY THE COST OF BEEF IS GOING UP AGAIN...SO SOON EVEN HAMBURGER WILL BE OUT OF THE BUDGET.   IT IS A GOOD THING I LIKE HOT DOGS, LOL.

SO HERE IS WISHING YOU A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR AND ALL THE BEST IN EVERYTHING.  GOD BLESS US ALL TODAY AND THROUGHOUT THE NEW YEAR.

HUGS,

AND OF COURSE, ONE FOR DOROTHY

RE:WELCOME TO THE JANUARY 2014 CHECK-IN
(Date Posted:01/02/2014 1:18 PM)

Ho! Ho! Ho!  It was bitterly cold yesterday, never above freezing, and in the afternoon we got SNOW.   I hadn't expected that.  Not too much, and it's mostly all melted.

We had a nice quiet day and finished watching our marathon.   Marcela just left.  She was going to come at 2, but another client asked her to change so she emailed me at 12:30 AM.   We usually wake up between 6 & 7, but today it was a quarter to 8 when I saw her message.   I panicked thinking I wouldn't be ready, then slowly it dawned on me that I had over an hour ~ lol.

Because our Pride and Prejudice put us in the mood, we started watching Downton Abby last night (Amazon Prime).   The new season starts Sunday, I think.  Really looking forward to it.   I understand that one of our very favorite Opera Divas, Dame Kiri te Kanawa will be singing on one of the first episodes, as someone giving a concert.   I hope they don't have conversation going through her entire song (and I hope it's something from Puccini).

smiley20

Lou Ann thank you so much for the beautiful tag!   I love it!   I just came in and re-marveled (new word ~ ha) at your beautiful skin.   Spectacular.

I had to laugh at your mom!  Mike used to do that to me all the time.  He would watch something I didn't care about and then fall asleep, so while he was sleeping I would change the channel.  Then he'd wake up all huffy because I changed the channel, as if I'd just been rude and changed it from something he was watching!   I'd point out that he was sleeping and did he really expect me to watch what he would have been watching if he'd been awake?  Apparently so.   LOL

Now we go our separate ways in the afternoons, and pretty much enjoy watching (or sleeping through) the same things in the evening and most of the time in the mornings.    I'm a news junkie and a little news goes a long way for Mike, so the mornings can be iffy.  Ha!

I'm glad your friends wrote AND saved you the worst of the White Elephants!  LOL.  I know I would feel exactly as you did/do.

Chai and toast sounds lovely.   We kind of skipped breakfast since Marcela was coming and we had overslept, but we ate a few cookies and I'm not hungry now.   I'm sure I will be.

I've had emails from two of my friends that they are having bad health problems, and our Barb (Noni2) is having a bad time with her diabetes and her kidneys are effected.  I'm so afraid she will have to go on dialysis.  I can't tell you how I would hate that for her.  I've been praying hard, but apparently not hard enough yet.    My appointment for the biopsy exam is on Wednesday and I've stressed myself to death over that.   When I see what my friends are going through, I realize how skewed my concerns are.   Not the nicest person in the world, I.  Others are dealing with much worse.

Stay warm!

RE:WELCOME TO THE JANUARY 2014 CHECK-IN
(Date Posted:01/02/2014 7:09 PM)

SNOW AND COLD....REALLY COLD.  CURRENTLY IT IS 4°,
WITH WINDCHILL IT IS 1°.  THAT IS UP AS EARLIER IT WAS -8° WITH WINDCHILL, SO THE WIND MUST HAVE SETTLED DOWN.  I HEAR THE EAST COAST IS SUPPOSED TO GET HIT HARD WITH SNOW.  THAT WILL SHUT A LOT OF THEM DOWN AS THOSE MORE SOUTH ARE NEVER PREPARED.  IN ARKANSAS IF THEY GET A COUPLE INCHES EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN SINCE THEY DO NOT HAVE PLOWS.
WE HAD VISITORS TODAY.  FIRST WE HAD 2 ELDERLY LADIES THAT BRING THE WATCHTOWER PAMPHLET TO MOM.  USUALLY SHE TALKS TO THEM AT THE DOOR, BUT TODAY SHE INVITED THEM IN.  WE ALWAYS TALK RELIGION AND THE ONE LADY SAID THAT DEATH WAS INHERITED, AS GOD DID NOT MAKE US TO DIE.  THEN THEY POINTED OUT IN THE BIBLE WHERE IT SAYS THAT YOU WILL LIVE FOREVER ON EARTH.  AS AN ALTERNATE TO HEAVEN OR HELL.  IF EVERYONE LIVED FOREVER WE WOULD HAVE RUN OUT OF PLANET A LONG TIME AGO.  FIRST TIME I EVER THOUGHT I MIGHT LIKE TO ASK THEM QUESTIONS, BUT I REFRAINED.  I HAD TO HEAR MOM TELL ALL HER RECENT HEALTH ISSUES AGAIN.  I SWEAR, I HAVE HEARD IT SO MANY TIMES AND EACH TIME SHE TELLS IT DIFFERENT...BUT I HAVE LEARNED TO KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT.  SHE HATES IT IF I CORRECT HER.  THEN THE HOME HEALTH NURSE CAME AROUND 11:30 AND WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE QUICK SINCE SHE WAS JUST SEEN ON MONDAY.  BUT THIS ONE LIKED TO HEAR HERSELF TALK AND I WANTED TO STRANGLE HER, LOL.  SHE JUST KEPT GOING ON AND ON AND OF COURSE SHE WAS CUTTING INTO MY MOMS TALKING TIME SO SHE HAD TO KEEP GOING BACK TO HER STORIES.  I SHOULD HAVE PULLED OUT MY HEADPHONES AND LISTENED TO MUSIC....I HATE INANE CHATTER AND JUST WANTED TO SCREAM.  I HOPE WE DO NOT GET HER AGAIN ANYTIME SOON.  I WAS STARVIN' MARVIN BY THE TIME SHE LEFT.
OTHER THAN THESE, I HAVE NOT DONE MUCH OF ANYTHING TODAY.  READ A SHORT BOOK ON MY IPAD BETWEEN YESTERDAY AND TODAY.  STARTING A NEW ONE NOW, BUT CANNOT RECALL WHICH ONE I CHOSE.  TOMORROW IS THE 3RD SO IT IS BILL PAYING TIME.
SS PAYDAY!!!!  EVER SINCE I GOT STATE ASSISTANCE WITH PAYING MY MEDICARE FEE I GET MY DISABILITY CHECK ON THE 3RD TOO.  BEFORE THAT IT WAS ON THE 15TH OF THE MONTH.  I DID NOT LIKE THAT.  I NEED TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH MY MOM AND SISTER OWE ME FROM ON LINE CHRISTMAS SHOPPING.  TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE AMAZON PRIME 2 DAY FREE SHIPPING I HAD TO ORDER FOR THEM.  I SHOULD HAVE BEEN KEEPING TRACK SINCE THE BEGINNING, NOW I AM GOING TO HAVE TO CHECK MY ORDERS TO SEE WHAT BELONGS TO WHO.  LOL  SOME DAY I WILL LEARN.
BOY, THERE IS NOTHING ON TV TONIGHT THAT MY MOM WILL WATCH, SO SHE PUT ON OLD RERUNS OF THE NEWLYWED GAME...IT COULD BE WORSE...SHE COULD HAVE FOUND TURTLE MAN AND WATCHED HIM....ALL AFTERNOON IT WAS JERRY SPRINGER, MAURY AND SHOWS OF THE NATURE.  I ASKED HER WHAT KIND OF MOTHER SHE IS TO EXPOSE HER CHILD TO SUCH TELEVISION.  SHE JUST LAUGHED.
WELL, I AM ON TO EMAIL NOW, SO SAYING GOODNIGHT.  HAVE A FANTASTIC FRIDAY....TGIF.   I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH REMEMBERING WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK IT IS WITH THE HOLIDAYS SCREWING ME UP, LOL.
HUGS,

RE:WELCOME TO THE JANUARY 2014 CHECK-IN
(Date Posted:01/03/2014 11:10 AM)

Hello. Welcome to the start of the weekend.
It's going to be nearly 60 degrees today, and then snow and be in the very low 20s tomorrow and Sunday!  Hopefully it will be dry, whether cold or not, for the rest of the week because we have Dr appts on Tuesday (Mike's Neurologist) and Wednedsay (my pre-biopsy evaluation).

Marcela left the house nice and clean for us yesterday and everything except the dreaded Budget Book is caught up.  I did get moneys transferred and check books balanced, but the dread Budget Book looms.

We still have another day of leftovers for tonight and then we may call for carry out from a new Indian restaurant tomorrow.   The weekend definitely sounds like a curl up by the fire with a hot chocolate and a good book days.
Mike's making a Costco run this morning to pick up some of the bulky items our storage area is out of, then I think we will "hole in".

Lou Ann ~ Brrrrrr.   We'll be joining you in the deep freeze tomorrow.   My friend in Omaha is expecting 30-35 BELOW zero wind chills, so I won't complain too loudly.

We were talking about how glad we are that we aren't flying anywhere.  I think there are going to be more than a few delayed or cancelled flights.  Even when you don't have bad weather where YOU are, you are still effected.   Curled up on the floor of the airport is not my idea of a good time!

OhMyGoodness, The Watch Tower Ladies!  You are far more more gracious than I am.   Ok, I was never rude, but I always said No, Thank you.   lol   It's been so long since I've talked to any 'missionaries' that I can't remember.   Are they the ones who say the quota of people allowed into Heaven has already been filled?  Always made me think "Then why bother being 'good'?"   Ha.

Oh my gosh, as crowded as the highways already are with citizens of other countries pouring across our borders, I'd hate to think what it would be like if none of us ever died.   Did you ever see that Startrek episode where no one died and the people were all squashed together watching Kirk and the lovely blond enjoy the space on a simulated Enterprise?    I already feel like that's what Colorado is becoming.

I fear I would really need my little "Morning Room TV" if I were sharing TV viewing with your mom. I might never come out.  I'm pretty sure she wouldn't come and visit me there, either.   LOL

I know what you mean about the days of the week.  It's been Saturday since New Year's Eve day.

I just went through my Chase and Pay Pal bills yesterday to see what things I ordered were "joint" and which were mine.  Unfortunately, most was mine but I did transfer some money from our Joint Checking to my checking to cover a Thanksgiving Table cloth and a Baby Gift for little Vincent.

I have to go and do my blood test now.  I really hope it's improved.   It was 3.9 the time before last and 4.3 last time.  Hope the lowered dosage is doing the trick!

Have a Fine Friday!

Update:   INR number today was 2.6.  YAY!   Of course that was by skipping Warfarin altogether on the first day (2 weeks ago) and then taking 1/2 a pill on Mon, Wed and Sat since then.   Probably when I do it again in two weeks my number will be 1-point-zip.   LOL  Never mind.  For this week at least we know I'm not going to bleed to death.

RE:WELCOME TO THE JANUARY 2014 CHECK-IN
(Date Posted:01/03/2014 11:59 PM)

Freakin' cold here.  Got up to -25 this morning.  I made a cup a
Chai and nuked a bagel and warmed up.  I forgot about it being
the 3rd and did not do the bills.  So they are first on the list for tomorrow.  I need to look through Chase, PayPal and Amazon, though that is paid with my Amazon Chase card.
  I have big news....
you know my besties Louann and Bruce.  Their youngest is Kirstie and she an Nick are having a baby boy named Liam in April.  The middle child Nerissa (Rissa) and Matt are having a baby in June.  Reid, the oldest, and Trisha have the adorable Finn.  Trisha wrote me on FaceBook today to tell me that in August, Finnian will become a big brother!!!  How exciting it that???  Louann and Bruce will have 3 new grandchildren by next Christmas.  I said it is so wonderful as there will be plenty of babies to hold.  So I will get some real baby time.  When there was only Finn I never got any time with him as his Aunts wanted him all the time.  Hope there are some baby girls in there somewhere, lol.
I am not sure about Heaven being filled but maybe that is why they were pointing out the 3rd option of life forever on Earth.  I really do not know what their religious beliefs are.  they usually give a little synopsis of what is in the booklet and chat a bit in general.  We always have the one lady and she always has someone with her.  She is very good at remembering about mom and our names, etc.  I do not mind her, but I do not like talking religion with people I do not know.  I am not a missionary at all,
lol.  To each their own...I do not push my beliefs on anyone.
Poor mom, they called mom after she was at the doctors last week and told her they had forgotten to order a lab (BMP) for checking her kidneys, but the her hgb was 13 something which is great.  They called in an order for her.  So she went to the lab the next day and they did the hgb and typed and cross matched her, which really confused her.  Today her Dr. nurse called and said her hgb was 14 something, holy cow!!!  But they did not do the BMP.  Mom said I told them you sent them orders but that was all they had.  So she had to go in this afternoon and get it done.  The Dr. wanted the results before she see's her again.  So if she needs to adjust meds she can.
I really need to make an appt to see my doctor and have labs done and meds checked.  Or soon they will not be refilling my prescriptions.  That and the dentist to get those teeth out that I have been avoiding.  I wanted to wait till after the holidays so now I have no excuse.  Well, gotta run.
Chat with you tomorrow.
Hugs,

As expected, we woke to snow and bitter cold and the snow is still coming down.  We dropped over 40 degrees from yesterday!   Definitely shocking if you are playing outside.   Looks like a nice day to curl up in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book.

I did get November done in the Budget book yesterday but December still looms for today.  I will get 'er done before I allow myself to pick up my book to read.

Lou Ann, if I were your mom, I'd be sooo mad having to keep coming in for new blood tests when they should have all been done initially.   Of course I react worse to blood tests because of my crappy veins, but just having to keep coming in is a pain in the tush.    I hope her results are good.

What exciting news about all the babies!   What fun!   I'll bet Louann and Bruce are over the moon.    As you know, I have three new great-greats, but I probably won't actually meet them until they are 14!  lol   Even if I did, I suspect the Grandmas wouldn't let them out of their arms. Talk about over the moon.

Good luck to both of us getting all the budgeting done today!

DOROTHY, THAT FIRST SNOWMAN OF YOURS IS SPASTIC!  CRACKED ME UP.  WE HAVE PLENTY OF SNOW AND WITH THESE TEMPS IT IS NOT GOING ANY WHERE ANY TIME SOON.  WE HAVE WARNINGS OUT FOR SUNDAY INTO MONDAY AND MANY AREAS ARE CLOSING THEIR SCHOOLS FOR MONDAY THOUGH THEY HAVE NOT HERE YET.  THEY ARE HOPING THE GOVERNOR DOES IT SO THAT THE DAY DOES NOT HAVE TO BE MADE UP.  IF THEY DO NOT CLOSE AND THEN THE CITY DOES NOT DO IT, THEN I WOULD NOT SEND MY KIDS TO SCHOOL.  THE TEMPS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE AROUND -25 MONDAY MORNING.  TO DANGEROUS TO WALK TO SCHOOL OR WAIT FOR BUSES IN.  JUST NOT SAFE.  FROSTBITE CAN SET IN REALLY FAST IN THOSE KIND OF TEMPS.  I DID GET THE BILLS PAID TODAY AND FOUND OUT THAT CABLE AND POWER WENT UP.  OUR CABLE BILL IS NOT $199.  THAT IS TV, PHONE AND INTERNET.  BUT THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS.  AM GOING TO CALL ON MONDAY TO SEE IF WE CAN GET A BETTER RATE.  OR WE WILL SERIOUSLY NEED TO LOOK FOR ALTERNATE SERVICES AND WHEN IT COMES TO TY, THERE ARE NOT A LOT HERE TO CHOSE FROM.  U-VERSE DOES NOT COME HERE YET.  I HATE THE IDEA OF CHANGING MY EMAIL ADDY EVERYWHERE.  SS WENT UP $18 A MONTH, BUT POWER WENT UP $19 AND CHARTER WENT UP ABOUT $25.  THE LAST OF OUR BUNDLE DEALS RAN OUT.  IT SUCKS.  I ALSO FIGURED OUT WHAT MOM AND SUZ OWED ME.  AND I DEDUCTED MOMS FROM MY MONTHLY PAYMENT TO HER.  BUT THAT WAS BEFORE I FOUND OUT THINGS HAD GONE UP, SO I STILL OWE HER MONEY.  BUT SHE SAID I CAN BUY HER DINNER WHEN THE LADIES COME AND WE WILL BE EVEN.  IT IS A GOOD DEAL FOR ME SO I WILL TAKE IT, LOL.  NOW I JUST NEED TO GET SUZ TO START PAYING ME BACK.
I HAVE TO CHECK MY EMAIL TO SEE IF THE LADIES HAVE PICKED A DATE YET.
NOTHING ELSE NEW.  CHAT WITH YOU TOMORROW.
HUGS,
C

It's pretty darned cold here (currently 9 degrees, heading for a "high" of 18) but the wind isn't strong so we can't complain when we look at the rest of the country.   My friend Judy in Omaha just emailed that they are expecting a 40 degree below zero Wind Chill.  She has a dog who needs to go out and Physical Therapy and Dr appts tomorrow, so she can't just hide inside.   I've heard reports that the game in Green Bay may be the coldest on record, and Minnesota is looking at the coldest temps in 20 years.  Admittedly they have had it pretty mild for the last several years, but still . . .    Mike and I plan to stay inside and curled up by the fire again today!

We did get over 2 inches of snow, so they shoveled our walk and drive ~ but by late afternoon it was lightly dusted again.   Not likely to melt today, but hopefully tommorrow.   Barb brought our mail up for us last night, otherwise we would have just left it in the mailbox until whenever.  Ha.  Nothing exciting ~ three catalogs and one "Important Tax Document".   Mike does get excited about the "Important Tax Documents".  Ha.

We did have our hot chocolate in front of the fire yesterday, but I didn't read.    I did FINALLY get that Budget Book updated ~ Please remind me to never, ever do that to myself again!   Then instead of grabbing my book, we watched all the remaining episodes of Downton Abby, so we are ready for tonight's start of Season 4.   We'll watch The Good Wife, The Mentalist and whatever is on at 7 that I can't remember on On Demand later.

Instead of calling out for Indian Carry Out, we just had a grilled cheese sandwich, and enjoyed it thoroughly.     Wow ~ I'm Chatty Cathy today!  lol

Lou Ann I don't know why but it seems that if you call Comcast (our Cable Company) they will always give you some kind of discount, but if you actually go IN, they give you a bigger one.  It's irritating, but it's the way they do things.   If you never call or come in, you just get to pay the higher rates.   We switched our Internet service to Cable a few months ago so we have both Cable and Internet through Comcast, and my cell phone through Century Link.  I get free basic telephone as part of my pension, though "Free" is sort of a joke.  I don't pay for the basic package, but they have so many "fees" and "taxes" that it's far from free.  Anyway, the combined amount we now pay for everything is less than it was before, something around $148.   That currently includes HBO and Showtime as a promotional, but they will go away in a few months.   We rarely watch them anyway.

Have a nice Sunday and Stay Warm!

RE:WELCOME TO THE JANUARY 2014 CHECK-IN
(Date Posted:01/05/2014 8:25 PM)

I AM GOING TO CALL CHARTER AND SEE WHAT I CAN DO.  $200 A MONTH IS JUST RIDICULOUS.  IF ONE OF US WERE GONE, THE OTHER COULD NOT BEGIN TO AFFORD IT.  AND WE DO NOT HAVE ANY MOVIE CHANNELS OR DVR, ETC.  TIME TO BRING US UP TO DATE AND HOPEFULLY BUNDLE INTO SAVINGS.  WE NOW HAVE AN HD TV BUT NOT AN HD CABLE BOX.  SO THAT MAYBE A KEY POINT IN BUNDLING UP.  WISH ME LUCK AS I AM NOT VERY GOOD AT IT.  THE FOND DU LAC SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS CLOSED THE SCHOOLS FOR TOMORROW...MANY THINGS ARE CLOSING...MOM'S TOPS MEETING WAS CANCELLED ALSO.  SO WE ARE ALL SET TO HUNKER DOWN AND RIDE OUT THE COLD.  KEEPING FINGERS CROSSED THAT WE DO NOT LOSE OUR FURNACE.  THERE IS SOME TALK FROM THE POWER COMPANY ABOUT FEARING TO NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP THE GAS PRESSURE UP IN THESE TEMPS AND IF THEY CANNOT THEN PILOT LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT AND FURNACES WOULD FAIL.  WE DO HAVE A LITTLE ROOM HEATER AND OUR STOVE IS ELECTRIC SO WE WOULD NOT FREEZE.
BEEN READING A NEW FANTASY BOOK CALLED EVERBLADE BY G.M. BROWNING AND NEW TO ME AUTHOR.  I DO LIKE THE BOOK
BUT I AM SURE IT IS LEADING IN SEQUELS THAT WILL NOT BE FREE, LOL.  FANTASY ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE TRILOGY'S.  IF IT ENDS SATISFACTORILY, THEN I AM OK WITH IT.  BUT IF IT LEAVES ME WANTING MORE, WELL THEN I WANT MORE.  I AM NOT SURE I AM FEELING THAT I WANT MORE.  I ALMOST THINK THEY ARE RUSHING THE CHARACTERS AND NOT LETTING US KNOW THEM ENOUGH TO FEEL VESTED IN THEM.  WE WILL SEE.
STAY IN TOMORROW AND STAY WARM.
HUGS,

And a freezing Good Morning to you all.   We're warmer than some, but it was still 1 below zero when I woke this morning, and I have no idea what the wind chill was.  Very fortunately for us, the winds haven't been bad this last week like they normally are.    My friend Judy in Omaha reported the wind chill was minus 34 when she left for Physical Therapy this morning.  She has to be there at 7:15 AM ~~ That alone sounds like torture to me!

Very low key, pleasant day yesterday and we did very little.  I like doing very little ~ lol.   In the evening Barbara called and said she was out and did we need anything.  She was driving past grocery stores, drug stores, everything!   I assured her we didn't need anything, but how nice to know if we had needed something we could have asked her to stop for us.   Of course asking people for favors is almost harder than walking on ice for me, but it's still good to have tucked in the back of my brain.

Oh, gosh, I hope you don't lose power!   I hope we don't, either, of course, but it's colder where you are than where we are.

I'd say thank goodness they have closed the schools.  I'd hate to read horrible things happening to kids waiting for school busses and such.  You can safely assume that Mike and I will be staying inside!

You stay warm, too!

It's still darned cold here, but getting warmer.  I think.  Maybe.   Barbara brought her old very big snow blower back here (she had given it to her brother but reclaimed it).  She blew out our walk and drive for us yesterday.  Otherwise, we'd be waiting for the sun to melt it for us as many of the other neighbors are.  It was completely dry by evening, except the area in the street right ahead of the mailboxes.  She even brought our mail up to us.  God bless her.   She works out with weights so she can schlep the equipment she needs when she goes on missions, still she is Japanese and shorter than I am, and that big machine looked like a handful for her!

Mike has an appointment with his Neurologist this morning and we'll need to leave soon.   Just wanted to poke my nose in and let you know what was happening in our world.

Later.

Ok, I'm back, and with happy news.  Usually we wait for 20 to 40 minutes to get in, but this time the Dr was ready and waiting, and Mike got in and out in 20 minutes.  Think I will mark this down on the calendar!  Everything looked great and Mike was "promoted" to an appointment in 8 months.

We went for a nice ride afterwards and then decided to go out to dinner tonight to celebrate.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRR.....HEY, WE ARE ALMOST HITTING ZERO, ONLY -3 RIGHT NOW.
IT IS HORRIBLY COLD, BUT WE ARE STAYING NICE AND WARM IN THE HOUSE.
MOM GOT THE PAPER IN TODAY.  IT TOOK MY BREATH AWAY YESTERDAY AFTER
I GOT IT AND I COUGHED FOR NEARLY 15 MIN.  IT WAS AWFUL.  OUR NEIGHBOR
IN THE LITTLE FRONT APT BROUGHT OUR MAIL IN AGAIN.  SHE DID IT YESTERDAY
TOO.  WE ONLY HAVE TO STEP OUT THE OUTER DOOR TO GET THE MAIL,  BUT
WHEN IT IS THIS COLD EVEN THAT IS AWFUL.
I DID NOT REALIZE THAT I DID NOT MAKE IT HERE YESTERDAY.  NOTHING MUCH
GOING ON SO I REALLY DO NOT HAVE MUCH TO SAY.  WE ARE TRYING TO WORK
OUT WHEN WE WILL GET TOGETHER WITH THE NURSES.  DO NOT WANT ANYONE
RUNNING AROUND IN THESE ICY TEMPS.
I WAS JUST READING SOME OF THE RECIPES YOU POSTED AND IT MADE ME
HUNGRY.   I CANNOT WAIT TO TRY SOME OF THEM.  I AM MAKING SUPPER
TONIGHT AND HAVE TO GO FINISH IT UP.  I MAY FIND MY WAY BACK HERE,
BUT I DOUBT IT, LOL.
HUGS,

And besides that ~ it's Hump Day.

It's 25 degrees today, heading for a warm and toasty 37 ~ 5 degrees above freezing.  Whoo Hooo.

I have my biopsy evaluation appointment at 1:40 this afternoon, and nothing much else on the agenda for today.

I'm so glad your neighbor is bringing up your mail and you are able to keep out of that bitter cold a bit.

Stay warm!
