I can not believe what a stupid thing I just did. I had my entire post written for the other group and the picture insert didn't work so I clicked on the Diamond Status Icon to clear it without saving or opening a new thread ~ and completely lost my entire post! I hope this isn't going to be an indicator of how the day is going to go!
I think we are pretty much ready for Thanksgiving. Last night I made that Breakfast casserole and we have it sitting out of the fridge now and we'll pop it in the oven for 40-50 minutes soon. Then we can just nuke it for our breakfast tomorrow and for ours and Laine's breakfast on Thursday.
Mike is going out this afternoon to pick up Pie from the bakery and a few last minute things at the grocery store and our carry out dinner for tonight and tomorrow night. I will make my dressing and a couple of chip dips today. We have our Thanksgiving dinner reservations at The Keg for 2:30 on Thursday, and most of everything we will have for our Thanksgiving Leftovers Dinner on Friday will be heat and eat. I think everything is a s easy as we can make it.
Mike's making his wonderful cheesy egg croissants for breakfast on Friday and we'll just have morning buns or chocolate croissants before Laine leaves on Saturday. Her plane leaves at 10, so she has to leave here at 7.
Laine is flying in tomorrow night. I used to drive to the airports in Rochester and Omaha to pick people up, but Denver has always been intimidating to me, and now I'm so spoiled by Mike that I hardly drive at all anymore. Mike has always done the airport runs, but he doesn't like doing that either anymore, so we've hired a Limo service to pick her up at the airport and bring her here, and pick her up here on Friday morning and take her back to the airport. We didn't want to drive and we didn't want her to have to pay for a taxi or rental car, so this is the next best thing, I think. I hope!
Lou Ann, a real life mystery ~ how exciting. As veteran mystery readers, don't our minds just go to work? lol.
I haven't watched DWTS at all so I'll just hope the ones you picked win.
My mom and I were like you and your mom. We decorated everywhere ~ even the bathroom ~ and loved every bit of it. I have so many decorations we won't be using, and so many ornaments we used to use on our bigger trees that won't fit on our little four footer. Kind of sad, but neither of us has the stamina to do ti all anymore, and since we don't really entertain, I guess it's enough for 'just us'. I do miss the 'before' though. I also used to bake several specialty cookies and I haven't made them for the last few years. I know Mike misses them, so maybe I'll try this year. . . . . or, not.
Hooray for your mom's big multi colored lighted tree! Did I tell you we changed the lights on our outside spruce from all white to multi colored? The house will still be all white, but the tree will be "old fashioned"
I do miss being able to shop for people who will be thrilled with what I buy, too. Now the new very little kids get everything they could ever hope for from parents, grand parents, aunts and uncles, and we aren't close enough physically to see what might delight them (that they don't already have), so it isn't much fun. We'll do ornaments at Christmas for a while and maybe the silver collectible coins for birthdays, but there really isn't anything we can get them that will be special. Ditto the older "kids".
We really do have to find a way to keep Christmas special in our hearts.
Have a Happy Day.
