RE:WELCOME TO MAY
(Date Posted:05/23/2014 9:52 AM)

Unfortunately for those of us who don't dance so well anymore, it's a bit of a challenge.  Still, I'd best learn cuz I think we're in the Monsoon Season here.   Fairly bad storms around us, but at our house, just some nice hard rains with no hail or high winds.  Looks like we'll be seeing stormy weather through Sunday or Monday.

We talked about going out for lunch today, but Mike's ankle is still bothering him a bit and rain is predicted about the time we'd want to go.  Some of that rain in other Metro locations has carried hail, so we decided to put our "outing" off until next week.

Mike made tacos for dinner last night with refried beans ~ yummy.  Before dinner we had a marguarita in the Library.   Ole'!

I'm reading a book by my beloved  Tony Hillerman's daughter, Ann, right now.  She is continuing the Chee/Leaphorn series.  She got mixed reviews but I can't imagine anyone living up to tony, so I think people may be more critical than she deserves.  I'm not very far into the book, but so far I'm enjoying it and it has the flavor of Tony's books.  I rather like that I don't have to say goodbye to all of my old friends there.

I ordered a signed copy of Dr Ben Carson's newest book "One Nation" which came out on May 20th.  It was delayed, but shipped yesterday.  Along with it I ordered a copy of one of his first books "Gifted Hands" which is his autobiography.  We watched the movie made from that book with Cuba Gooding Jr some time ago, and I expect the book to be even better.   Of course, WHEN I will get around to reading it is anyone's guess.   I do plan to read One Nation when I'm finished with Spider Woman's Daughter.   I need a little hope right now.

I did get my new Track Ball Mouse yesterday ~ Praise The Lord!  The broken one was about driving me mad!

I haven't heard from Mary Ann's friend Ann yet, but I did write an email to the address I had and identified myself and told her that Mary Ann was loved by many friends in the virtual world and we would all appreciate knowing what was happening with her.  I hope she sees my email and replies.

I have a message for you from Mike.   I told him what you said about my planting two pots wrong, and he loved what you said and thought it was brilliant.  Applause to you from Mike!  LOL

You can count on my being just a wee bit upset if you decide to go missing ~~~~ so DON'T!!

Thanks you for the cute Post Card.   You are doing so well with all of your challenges.   I most certainly do want my tag, and I've already got it saved!   I'm not likely to get back to Hawaii, but I have been there twice and loved it.

Aloha

Ah, I hear the lawn mowers.  Lovely to just have that taken care of without having to worry about it.

Have a Fabulous Friday!

And a cheery Good Morning to you.

Memorial Day Weekend is upon us.   We're looking at more rain until at least Monday so I don't think we're going to put the flag out until then.

Have you watched the TV series "The Grand"?   My friend Shiela put us on to it.  Two Seasons, 9 episodes each, and we are gobbling it up with both hands.  Sort of a cross between Downton Abby and Mr Selfridge.

Not a lot planned for the weekend.  How 'bout you?

Have a great weekend!

RE:WELCOME TO MAY
(Date Posted:05/25/2014 7:22 AM)

While we're planning the BBQ, take a minute to remember who paid for the celebration.

Good Morning

It's sunny, heading for the mid-60s, but rain predicted again this afternoon.   Last night Mike made margaritas for us to have in the library again, and he got creative adding some orange juice and cherry Grand Marnier to the mix.  It was delicious.  Not a bad thing, living with a chemist.

Then, just as we had fixed our Tacos, the Code Red Alarm on my iPhone went off yelling that there was a Tornado Warning and to "Take Cover"!   Possibly an easy thing to do if you are agile ~ grab your plates and drinks and head for the basement, but in our case . . . . .  we instead turned the TV on to follow the storm news.  It sounds like some funnel clouds were spotted, but (depending on which channel you were watching) possibly they weren't really 'twisters'.  We opted to stay where we were and finish our meal, and it was a good choice.   My hairdresser Sharyl posted on Facebook that the sirens were going off and she was heading for the basement, but we barely got any rain and none of the hail they kept talking about.  We did have a few minutes of it looking pretty windy out there, but that was all.   Whew.

Then we finished watching "The Grand".  Definitely a good series.

I still haven't heard from Mary Ann's friend Ann yet, so I guess that idea was a wash.   I don't know if she still has the same email address, or if she didn't recognize my name and deleted me, or if she just thinks it's none of my business or what.   Back to the drawing board, I guess.

 photo flag_2_zps2d9893d7.gif

You will laugh, but I've never made egg salad before, so I'm going to make one today and we'll have egg salad sandwiches tonight ~~ unless I manage to screw it up somehow.     Tomorrow we're just doing burgers on the grill with corn on the cob and deviled eggs.   I thought Potato salad would be better but Mike wants deviled eggs, so eggs it will be.

Have a lovely day.

Happy Memorial Day

In the past we and one other family on our street have flown the flag, but this year two more newer families joined us.  It makes my face smile to see all the flags flying.  There are several who fly the flag on other streets in our little neighborhood, but I can't see them from here.    We're planning to take our coffee out on the porch a little later when it warms up a bit, and I'm really looking forward to it.

smiley20

Lou Ann, I'm sorry about your Uncle Squeak.   How ever did he end up with a name like that?   I'm sorry you can't attend the funeral, but I think you made a good decision.   We weren't able to attend either Mike's father's or his brother's funerals.

Thank you for yet another beautiful tag.   I love your challenges!

We're looking at the low 70s today and one station says rain in the afternoon and another says not.    I suspect the ground is getting pretty soggy.  lol

Yes, it's kind of hard to believe that I had reached this ripe old age without ever having made an egg salad ~ LOL.  It did turn out good.   I'll be making deviled eggs today ~ that IS something I've done often.  Ha.   Just burgers on the grill tonight and corn on the cob, but it sounds good to me.

I'm really looking forward to sitting outside with our coffee this morning!  It's been a long Winter.

RE:WELCOME TO MAY
(Date Posted:05/27/2014 8:40 AM)

We had a nice, low key Memorial Day.  The weather threatened but never actually did anything bad.  Another neighbor hung his flag yesterday.  He had it out the first year we were here but not since, so yesterday there were five flags flying, three on the right side of the street in front of us, one n the left and ours in the middle.  I loved it!

We sat outside and had our coffee around 10.  It was beautiful and clear but still too cold for me.  I wanted to get a blanket to wrap up in but thought the neighbors might laugh at me.  Mike, of course, thought it was purrrfect.

The lilacs are out on the original dwarf lilac bush and the smell was heavenly.  The new bushes, the Bloomerangs, have some buds on them, too, and the Mock Orange has some "budlettes" ~ I can't wait for it to blossom, even if it's just a few blossoms, and give out that heavenly smell.

The pots of petunias are coming out, too, and the Potentilla are in full bloom.   Everything is so green and lush.

This morning we are awaiting someone to come and install an outside keypad access to the garage.  We may have coffee on the porch again this morning.  It's supposed to get up to 85 degrees by afternoon!   We'll see.

Have an amazing day

♥ Dorothy

OUR INTERNET HAS BEEN GOING IN AND OUT SINCE SATURDAY,

MOSTLY OUT! :(  HAD CHARTER HERE TODAY TO FIX IT.  THE

TECH THOUGHT WE HAD OUR OWN MODEM AND I SAID NO,

THAT IS THE ONE CHARTER SET US UP WITH.  HE SAID IT MUST

BE REALLY OLD AND THAT MAY BE OUR PROBLEM.  BUT HE DID

THOROUGH TESTING AND WAS HERE AN HOUR AND A HALF.  HE

HOOKED US UP WITH A NEW MODEM THAT COMBINED THE

INTERNET AND PHONE.  SO INSTEAD OF 2 WE NOW HAVE 1.

MEMORIAL DAY WAS JUST ANOTHER DAY.  I CANNOT EVEN TELL

YOU WHAT WE ATE.  I HONESTLY CANNOT RECALL WHAT IT WAS.

I HAVE BEEN SPENDING TIME OUT ON THE PORCH.  IT IS HOT

ALREADY SO I AM DREADING HOW BAD THIS SUMMER WILL BE.

HAVE TO CLEAN MY ROOM TO PUT THE AIR CONDITIONER IN.

I HAVE BEEN RUNNING A FAN BLOWING ON MY ALL THE TIME.

MOM SARCASTICALLY SAID "WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WHEN

SUMMER REALLY COMES"  I LOOKED AT HER AND SAID "WELL I

WILL PROBABLY DIE."  THAT SHUT HER UP.  IF I HAVE TO I WILL

MOVE INTO MY BEDROOM THIS SUMMER.  SHE IS ALWAYS COLD

NOW AND I AM ALWAYS HOT...IT IS NOT A GOOD COMBO.

I DO NOT KNOW HOW MY UNCLE SQUEAK GOT HIS NAME (IT IS

REALLY EARL) AND ASKED MOM BUT SHE DOES NOT KNOW

EITHER.  NOR DO I KNOW HOW MY UNCLE MOUSE (GARY) GOT

HIS NAME, LOL.

OH LORD, JUST LOVE THE SMELL OF LILACS.  I AM SO GLAD

YOURS ARE BLOOMING.  THE NEIGHBORS ACROSS THE STREET

(DELLA AND DAVE) HAVE A DARK PURPLE LILAC AND I HAVE

BEEN ENJOYING THE SCENT FOR DAYS, ESPECIALLY WHEN

OUT ON THE PORCH.  YOUR POTS LOOK GOOD, CANNOT WAIT

TO SEE THEM BLOOMING.  YOUR GRILLING SOUNDS

WONDERFUL.  I HAD MY FIRST CORN ON THE COB A COUPLE

DAYS AGO.  YUM!!

(Date Posted:05/28/2014 4:02 PM)

Good Afternoon.

Marcela was here this morning and later during her time here we went outside to have our coffee on the front porch.  It was lovely.  Mike confiscated my iPhone so he could play and while he was playing the biggest bee I've ever seen came buzzing around the lilacs!   I had just made that statement and was preparing for a hasty exit (I don't do bees or wasps or other flying stinging critters), when I looked more closely.  It was a Hummingbird!   Tiny fat little hummingbird ~ awesome. He hovered and darted around as hummingbirds do and entertained us for quite a while.

Then Mike got too hot (it wasn't 10 below zero) so he went back inside, and Sherri came over to visit.  She has been having so much trouble with her new home and with our builder that it would have spoiled the house for me.  She gets mad, but she loves her new home so much that the troubles she's been having aren't spoiling her joy in her new house ~ thank goodness.  While she was there, the Hummingbird came back for a while.  She, too, said she would have thought it was a huge bee.  Then a gigantic yellow butterfly came to visit the lilacs.  Twas fun.

When I got in I did some checking on the net and found out that my Giant bee/Hummingbird is really a Hummingbird Moth! Apparently baby hummingbirds can't fly!

I hope your Internet really is fixed Lou Ann.  We lost our Internet for about an hour this morning so I couldn't post before Marcela got here.  Fortunately they knew it was their problem and fixed it quickly.

I hope you can get your AC put into your window so you can excape for a while when it gets too bad.   Of course here, you would have to wear your sweatshirt and a jacket over that to try to stay warm!  lol

Have a lovely evening.

RE:WELCOME TO MAY
(Date Posted:05/28/2014 10:22 PM)

Everything seems to be running well so I hope it stays that way. Though mom has been having issues keeping her iPad connected to linksys so I went ahead and ordered a new router.  The tech guy told me that mine was a "G" and that I should upgrade to an "N".  Got one on Amazon that was refurbished by the company and it was half the price of the new ones.  I have bought refurbished before with good luck,
so I hope that luck holds.
I love watching hummingbirds.  Louann and Bruce get a lot of
them as they have several feeders for them.  I know there is
actually a bee hummingbird and is very tiny.  It is the smallest
bird but it is not native to North America.  It is native to Cuba
and other islands near there.
LOL, I would probably join Mike inside and my mom would
stay on the porch with you.  Like you she is always cold and
I am almost always hot.
I went and got my Cpap today and boy have they changed.
She tried a very minimal and light weight mask on me and
it did not feel any different then when my oxygen is running.
So I have high hopes that it will work for me this time.  The
doctor says wearing it at night will improve my overall breathing and I want that badly.  Today was warm and humid
and I had trouble breathing even with the oxygen on.  I also
helped Louann with getting my w/c in and out of the can.
That put me so out of breath and my back into instant spasms.
But it is so heavy and bulky and it is so hard for her to trans-
port it, that I felt I had to help.  I wanted it as they said the
appt would be an hour and a half and I did not know what kind
of seating was available.  I am comfortable in my chair.  But the appt only took 40 min.  I could have done that on their chairs so I will know that for the next time that I have to go
there.  I wanted to start the Cpap tonight but cannot.  I need
to get some distilled water.  So will see if Suz can pick me up
some tomorrow.
New tag alert.  Challenge was to use, plaids, stripes, polka
dots and checkerboard in the tag....one or more.  I used polka
dots and stripes that were a part of the tube and then 2 more
stripe patterns.  I love how it turned out.  It is simply done
and I love the quote I found to use with it.  I hope you like it too!
Hugs,

RE:WELCOME TO MAY
(Date Posted:05/29/2014 7:44 AM)

Good Morning

We're headed for sunny skies and temps in the 80s again today, but then maybe some storms for the weekend.  I hope not until later on Friday because last week they did a terrible job of cutting the wet grass after a week of rain.

We're going to have coffee on the porch again today, and add some Miracle Grow to the pots and new plants.  I'm thinking we may do that twice a week for a while.  We can add an applicator to the hose that is already on the porch, and just water from there.    We really have been enjoying sitting outside after having been pretty much cooped up all Winter.  Since we don't do a lot of shopping that isn't online or other activities too challenging for us, our only outings during the Winter are groceries, restaurants, Dr & Hair appointments and the occasional drive.  Lovely being 'sprung' now!  On the other hand, sitting out in the morning and in the late afternoon may not be such a good idea.  Clearly all that fresh air is not good for a person!  I can hardly keep my eyes open when I come back inside!

smiley14

I love the tag, Lou Ann.  Tooo sweet. Thank you!   Of course I will steal your matching border for it, too.

I hate to admit that I don't even know what you are talking about with the G and N Router.  We don't have linksys ~ I'm assuming that's your IP?   Every once in a while I realize how computer illiterate I have become since Mike actually enjoys playing with all things technical, and I enjoy letting him.  If he ever leaves me, I won't even be able to watch TV, I fear!   I'd best start paying some attention myself.

All of our "stuff" just runs off of the Wireless.  Of course when the Internet goes down like it did for an hour yesterday morning, nothing works a'tall!

Yes, we really thought we had a baby hummingbird, and we were so excited!  lol.  Ah, well.  I'd never heard of a hummingbird moth before, but he is kinda cute ~~ as long as he doesn't get inside the house.  A regular moth got in the other night and Shogun, the Mighty Hunter, still hasn't recovered.  LOL

I'm so glad your CPAP is so lightweight and user-friendly!  The other ones I've seen pictures of look like mini torture chambers. It will be wonderful if you can really sleep using it, and get your blood oxygenated too.  I'm sorry you couldn't start last night, but I'm excited to find out how it works for you.  Fingers crossed!

Thanks again for the adorable tag!

RE:WELCOME TO MAY
(Date Posted:05/29/2014 8:21 PM)

Today I got all the paperwork together to send in to see if I

will continue to qualify for the state to pay my medicare premium.

I hope so, since I am incurring new medical bills daily.  If they

stop, it is $105 more a month I am out.  With that and the O2

and Cpap it is crippling my extra cash.  I will not be able to eat

out or buy yarn, etc.  Good thing so many Kindle books are free.

Dorothy, Linksys is a brand of routers.  I have a low level G. N

is just a better more powerful router.  My IP is Charter.  I did not

realize there were differences.  Our new one should come tomor-

row and then I will have to try to hook it up.  My computer guy

hooked up the last one.  I had tried but I could not get it to work.

Out desktop computer is on a corner desk set up.  There is a

mass of cords and plugs and 2 power bars back under it and I

cannot get to them or get down on the floor, it would kill me

trying to get back up, if I could even stand being down.

I need to get going on the new page and skin.  I am using

baseball as one June theme, but not sure what I will do got

the skin.  Any June idea's??

I will be giving my Cpap a go tonight.  Fingers crossed for tonight.

They have 90 days to prove that I wear it at least 4 hours a night

so that medicare pays for it.  Otherwise I would have to pay for it

on my own and I could not do that.  So I will have to wear it no

matter what.

Maybe you should sit out on your porch in the evening before

bed and drink some sleepy time tea.  Then you would go to bed

and sleep beautifully.  Fresh air does wonders for us.  I have been

trying to get out daily.  I have been using mom's portable to go on

the porch, but they came and picked up all her O2 stuff today

since she is no longer on O2.  Lucky her.  I am hoping that the

Cpap will help my breathing to get better.

TGIF!

Hugs,

RE:WELCOME TO MAY
(Date Posted:05/30/2014 7:45 AM)

Good Morning

Our little friend the Hummingbird Moth came back yesterday morning.

If you see him hovering and darting with his wings going so fast they become invisible, he really does look like a mutant bee!

It was lovely sitting out in the morning.  After a while it became overcast but it was still warm and so quiet.  After Mike went back in, I stayed for maybe an hour and read my Anne Hillerman book.  Lovely.

We had our trash can out all day, and they didn't pick it up. Usually it's delayed on the day following a Holiday and they have a Robo Call tell you to have it out the next day.  This time, no call and no pick up.  I think I heard them out there just a short while ago picking it up.

I don't think it rained last night, so hopefully when they mow our lawn today, they will do a lot better job than they did last week.  It's supposed to rain this afternoon.   Fingers crossed they get done before the rain does come.

smiley14

Good luck with the State.  I'm sure since they've been paying it and nothing has changed in your finances, they will continue.

I hope your router comes today and you are able to hook it up and everything works perfectly.  As I've said, I've been abdicating everything technical to Mike.  I used to be a fairly competent Programmer long ago in another galaxy, but I'm definitely leaving myself vulnerable now-a-days.

In the old house, we had a Computer Desk and all the cords were behind it ~ accessible by sitting on the floor, too, so I know whatcha mean, and I know I couldn't even begin to crawl around down there and do something with them anymore.  We have a regular desk in the basement now where the Desktop PC lives, but it would still involve sitting on the chair and bending forward and way over so far I'm not sure I could do that either.   Good luck!

My June Skin is based on Weddings, more particularly MY wedding in June.  It's yellow roses, which is what I carried.  I didn't put up other "weddingy" things with it, so it's just the flowers.  I'll see if I can get a shot of it to share.  I make it in advance in "DJ's Studio", a group I set up for myself when we first came to Aimoo so I could experiment and learn how to do things and of course save things.  Then at the beginning of the month, I just copy it over to Tags and Tiaras.   Baseball sounds great.  You are always so creative!

How did things go with the CPAP?

Have a Happy Friday, everyone.  TGIF?

Ooh, roses for the skin...I like that.  Roses are the June flower.  Though I would love to do lilacs, though they are
more of a May flower... Artistic License??  LOL
Today I gathered all the info needed for the page. Now I need to gather some pics.  Work on a border for baseball page.  Though maybe I should save that for July because it is in red, white and blue and would go well with the skin, since I am sure it will be patriotic.  If I do that, then I need to come up with all for June yet...we will see.
Dorothy, those are excellent shots of your moth hummingbird.  Wow, it really is small and I could see not knowing what it was when the wings are not visible.  I am going to save those pics and show them to Louann and Bruce if you do not mind.  I doubt they have ever seen this type of hummingbird...or maybe they have, lol.
I did sleep some with the Cpap last night, so I have high hopes that I will conquer it.  I removed it around 6am as I felt as if I was suffocating and felt it was a good attempt doe first night.  I had it on from 1:30 to 6ish, so I managed the 4 hours.  Yay!!
Mom and I sat out on the porch for over 2 hours this evening.
We took a CD player out and listened to wonderful music.  We both love the oldies....Doris Day and many others.  I have a collection called the Great American Song Book and it is wonderful.  She has some really great ones also.  We heard her and dads song....I Walk Alone.  Very pretty song.  I just wish I could get my legs up while I am out there.  But I sit on my swing, so a foot stool just does not work and is not comfortable.  But I was fine tonight.
I really need to clean my room and rearrange it.  I need to have the Cpap near my chair so I had to set up a folding chair to put it on so it was near.  I have to get it all set up and on then get up and shut off the light.  I need to work on a better set up.  I should just take the bed out of the room, but I just cannot give up on laying down.  Which I could not even do anyway since it is covered with boxes and clothes and who knows what all else.  It had become the catch all in my room.
I am going to start Monday and purge!!!  Box up stuff and take to basement to go to the Church rummage sale in Aug.
Ok, back to work now.  Chat at you tomorrow.
Love ya!

It's so foggy here that Denver has completely disappeared.  The Weather Thingy shows humidity is 100%!   It's only 54 now but supposedly working toward the low 80s with maybe some rain in the afternoon.

Because of the holiday, the lawn service didn't mow yesterday but will today.   It rained last night, so I hope the lawn will be dry enough that we won't get another crappy mowing.

This whole week has been "off".  First the holiday, then Marcela, then No trash pick up on Trash Pick Up day, then no lawn mowing on Mowing Day.  I don't know WHAT day it is!

I did Iris for May's page, but lilacs would have been appropriate.      I'm looking forward to seeing your June page.  You always do such a beautiful job.

By all means, feel free to share those pictures.  If you saw him in flight, you'd know why they call him a Hummingbird Moth ~ he really does hover and dart just like a hummingbird.  He is a kind of Moth, though.  I saw on the news that because of our very wet Spring we were getting more Miller Moths than usual and several other kinds too.  They didn't mention the Hummingbird Moth, but showed lots of others, some really big that looked like very large butterflies.  Who knew.  Apparently they head for the mountains and often get confused and visit houses.  Also they said the bears love them and eat (I can't remember what quantity she said, but a lot).   Who knew??

I am SO glad the CPAP wasn't too bad last night!  That bodes well for the future!

How nice for you and your mom to sit out and enjoy the fresh air and the lovely music.  Makes my face smile "seeing you".

We just ordered some cushions for the Resin Rocking Chairs on the deck!   I also ordered some stepping stools that I plan to use as foot rests.  Looks like we're planning on spending some good time outside!

Good luck getting your room cleaned!  Such fun!  NOT.

Make it a great Saturday!
