RE:WELCOME TO MARCH CHAT
(Date Posted:03/10/2017 12:14 PM)

Good Morning!

Poor Shauna is here working and she is still sick!   I'm carrying a cross and a garlic necklace to protect myself, but she has been sick since she was here two weeks ago.  She finally went to the Dr and got an antibiotic and is feeling better.   She does so much besides cleaning that I'm sure she hasn't taken any time to heal.   AND ~~ her beloved Orek died yesterday.   Usually her husband, who is an electrician, can fix it, but this time I think she is going to have to bury it.  I envision it being like the scene from A Christmas Story, when the father had to bury his 'Major Award' Leg Lamp.    For now she will use ours and that may be a good idea ongoing.   We've offered to let her do that in the past, but she didn't want to.

Anyway, however bad you and I feel, Shauna feels worse!

I slept better last night ~ of course anything would be better than the two previous nights, but I'm encouraged.

The man from Champion Windows came yesterday, and we ordered windows from him and cancelled the fellow that was going to come out on Monday.   These windows are sound good and appear to be from our follow up research.

Someone else will come out on Wednesday and do the official measurement, and then it will take 7 to 9 weeks after that, which will put us right about the time when Mike's sister and bil and maybe Laine will be visiting.   Oh well.  They might come in sooner, too.   Whatever.

Have a great weekend!

RE:WELCOME TO MARCH CHAT
(Date Posted:03/12/2017 9:45 AM)

Good Morning

Another sunny day, but once again with the awful winds predicted.  Ugh. Even staying inside my sinuses are pitching a fit.

Barbara is home and appears to be doing well.  She was supposed to be discharged on Wednesday, but she had problems with her pain meds that kept her vomiting so they had to get them regulated and changed before she could be discharged.

On Friday afternoon, we went for groceries (Mike shopped and I sat in the car and read).  When we came home, he stopped the car in the driveway close to the mailbox and I got the mail.  Then I heard a voice calling out to me ~ Barb in her driveway.  Her "mentee" had just brought her home from a PT session and was picking up her mail.  She said they tried to kill her in PT.  She was walking with a cane, and walking so much better than I was that it wasn't funny.  Her "mentees" will be staying with her for 10 days or so, until she is able to completely do for herself.  I'm so glad of that, because as a next door neighbor, we are beyond worthless and can't really help her at all, other than our continuing prayers.

When we came in, poor Mike who had done all the shopping, put everything away because I couldn't.  He deserves better.  Everyone does, but I'm a mess.

I got my new order of meds in the mail.  I take all of them but one as generic, but that one I need the 'Brand name'.  When I started taking it at first so many years ago, we went to Santa Fe for the weekend to celebrate my birthday, and I could barely walk the two blocks from our Inn to the Square.  One of the side effects is that it causes swelling to your lower extremities, and since I have some of that normally, it was awful.  I called my cardiologist when we got home and had it switched to the Brand Name (Benicar) and it was much better.  Now I have the opportunity to fight with the folks who made the decision to change the meds for me (not my Dr).  Swell.  We are also going to try cutting back on the Benicar a bit and see if that helps some of my other issues.  I take other BP meds and of course now I'm on blood thinners, so I should be fine, but I will monitor my BP closely to be sure.

It's St Paddy's Week, and I'll be making my Irish Stew this afternoon.  We'll have that for a few days, then move on to Sheppard's Pie and finish with Corned Beef and Cabbage, which has become Mike's specialty

And so it goes.   I hope you are feeling better.

smiley2

Hugs.

RE:WELCOME TO MARCH CHAT
(Date Posted:03/12/2017 11:35 PM)

Sorry I have been MIA again.  In some ways I am better and in some I am not.  I believe the breathing is getting better.  And earlier today only one of my feet was swollen, though we are back to both being swollen right now.  I did good 2 days this week with not falling asleep every few minutes but yesterday and today were that way.  I went to bed at almost 6am.  Then I got a phone call from my sister asking if the front door was unlocked and I said no, why?  She said because I am nearly to your place with potato pancakes and sausage.  Oh boy, I got up and unlocked the door.  I could not believe she got me some.  The last time they had this...the Eagles run it during Lent, she never for me any even though she knows I will pay for it.  But mom went to church today and Suz told her she was leaving to meet her family for this breakfast mom told her to get one for me and take it out of the cash money I have here at home for her, but she said I was going to do that anyway.  So she paid for it.  I was shocked.  When she left I told her to relock the door as I would be going back to bed.  I was not going to try and go on 3 hrs of sleep...if that, lol.
When I got up, it was much later than I wanted.  I wanted to be up by 1ish, but it was almost 2 then my mom called and she said it was 3 and I was looking at a clock that had not been turned.  I have a lot of clocks that I will have to see is Suz will change.  Getting to all those clocks will kill me...1 moms alarm clock, 2 mu alarm clock, 3 stove clock, 4 microwave clock, 5 kitchen clock and 6 the living room clock.  Only 6.  Not too bad.  I had the rest of the potato pancake and sausage for supper.  I did not need a lunch.
Sounds as if Barb is doing great and certainly has a fantastic support system.  Which works great for you.  You could just find a
nice rock that is smooth and write the word strength on it and then put clear shellac of nail polish over the writing to protect it.  Then if your have a stamp that is a bible quote about strength :)  I think Barb would love that.  She likes simple and faith inspired.  Or the word could be faith and the quote re: faith, etc.
I hate that we have to fight our insurance companies in order to get brand name meds.  A doctor of mine in the past wrote that a med he was ordering could not be replaced by generic and the pharmacy filled it but I could not afford it and I had to ask the doctor if we could go with generic.  He agreed because it was better than nothing and that is what it would have been as I could not afford it.
Good luck with your battle.  I hope you win.
Poor Mike, he gets all the work...isn't love grand!!  You will need to give him some extra kisses!!  Though I am sure he loves doing for you.
The more I think about Miss Fisher, the more I think it is ended.  That last episode seemed to tie everything up, just in case there were no more.  I will certainly miss the costumes.  Murdoch has some great costumes too!  I am on episode 11 there.  I finished a different series called The Tomorrow People which had 22 episodes and thankfully also sort of ended in case it did not come back...which it did not.  I am thinking that I am going to start watching Longmire from the start.  Hopefully my membership does not end before my membership does.  Crossing my fingers.
I guess I will not be having any corned beef and cabbage this year.
I did not buy any and I have never cooked it.  Not that I think it is difficult, should be able to be done in the slow cooker.  But I am not
going to buy the ingredients now.  Probably can't.
Well, going to call it a night.  Sleep well my friend.
Love,

RE:WELCOME TO MARCH CHAT
(Date Posted:03/13/2017 10:35 AM)

Top O' the Mornin.

Looks to be a nice day, in the 60s and NO WIND!  Oh, how I hope that's true.

We launched our St Paddy's WEEK with Irish Stew last night.  The Pain Monster attacked me and Mike had to help me.  He does so much more than I do that I really hate it when I can't even complete the simplest things without help.  He deserves so much better, but I don't have it to give.  The stew did turn out good anyway, and will give us meals for two more nights, so that's a good thing.   Just heat and eat, basically.

Half my family texted me last night for various reasons from 'just to chat' to showing me pictures and videos of the babies.  Normally I love it, but they timed it about the time the stew was finishing, and Mike kept going in and "testing" a spoonful.  I was afraid that before I got off the texting connection he would have it all eaten and I wouldn't get any!  Ha!   I finally had to express that and excuse myself to eat.  ;-)

Today I need to put my overdue hair color in.   I'm beginning to look like The Gray Lady.  lol

I'm glad you are feeling better and sorry that the swelling in your legs went back up.  Believe me, I know well that pain and how hard it makes it to walk.  I got on the scale today for the first time in a long time, and the results were even worse than I had thought.   I know at least some of it is due to the swelling, and I hope cutting down on the Benicar will help ~ though that may be wistful thinking.

I know of course, that it isn't my fault that I can't do what I used to, and Mike is so understanding, but still I feel so bad about it.  I do contribute more financially which helps me not feel as much like a burden, but I hate when things are not fair.   It really does balance out, and I need to keep reminding myself.  The ant who saved most of her life kicks in more, and the grasshopper who didn't picks up her slack.  ;-)  It works ~ and still I hate that he does so much more than I do.

I am not loving Daylight Saving Time!  Arizona has it right!   I wake up at the same time I always did, but now it's already late and my morning is slipping away!

Because of all the wind, my sinuses have been going crazy.  Last night I couldn't stop sneezing and snorting so I took a Benedryl.  I slept well, except for waking up every two hours to go to the bathroom!  Sheesh!

What a nice surprise that Suz brought you a special treat for breakfast ~~~ and dinner!  I love that she even treated.  It's not even that you didn't have to pay, but that she wanted to treat you that matters.

We are re-watching Miss Fisher for the umpteenth time.  It's funny how you can enjoy rewatching some series if you wait long enough between watchings.  I can't remember what number series ended things, but it is definitely "on suspension" or whatever.  I haven't heard that it will never come back, but I haven't heard that it will, either.  I wish it would.

We have recently rewatched all the Murdocks too, and now we are watching the current season, but now we can't Binge.  We have to watch the new one every Monday night.   I like Binging much better! Ha.

We re-watched Longmire a few months ago, too.  I know the next Season, whenever it comes out will be the last.  Maybe that's ok.  I don't love the direction it's going, but I really have enjoyed it, and I will miss it.

Another series we discovered, I think on Acorn, is "Death in Paradise".  British but set in the Caribbean, and quite enjoyable.  They have the cheeriest Caribbean (steal drum?) music for their theme, and then some of the murders are far from cheery ~ then they go into the cheery music.  Definitely incongruous, but somehow charming.  Keeps things from ever seeming too dark.  Hard to explain.  We are on our second leading man, and I read recently on Facebook that he has quit and when the new season is filmed it will be with yet another leading man.  We've also lost some of the other characters, and yet somehow it still works. Perhaps it's the Island itself that holds things together.

Have a good day.  I'm off to turn back the clock on my hair.  ;-)

RE:WELCOME TO MARCH CHAT
(Date Posted:03/14/2017 7:43 AM)

Good Morning

I hear they got a little snow in the East. Ok, quite a little.  We're looking at 70 today with no wind ~ yay!

Shhh. Don't tell anyone, but I think I may be feeling a little better.  Maybe.  Shhhh.    I didn't take a Benedryl last night, but I did skip my Benicar during the day, and I went to the bathroom what seemed like every two hours. After reading what Shiela (in the other group) posted, I checked out the side effects for generic Norvasc (Amlodipine Besylate) and that also causes swelling, so I take two pills that cause swelling (fluid retention) and another that slows my heart rate ~~ no wonder I'm swelling like a blimp!  Many years ago Mike's Dr caused him to go into congestive heart failure by giving him something to slow down his heart without also giving him a diuretic.  He swelled up to the point where he couldn't put his own shoes and sox on or get behind the wheel of the car, and I had to go out and buy him bigger pants.  We ended up in the ER where they put him on intravenous diuretics overnight, and then sent him home with a strong diuretic.   He lost 60 pounds in a little over two days!  Can you even imagine how miserable he was before that?!

Once a Dr puts you on a pill, they never ever voluntarily take you off.  They might add more, but they are always afraid to take you off of anything unless you really push them, and then only very hesitantly.  I'm just cutting back so he can deal with it.  In time, if this works and my BP doesn't go up, I will push harder.  My fingers are crossed because I've really been miserable.

I think Sue is coming over this afternoon so we can share some card making things.  We both seem to be easing back into making cards.

Hope all is well with you.

Beware the Ides of March
Especially if your name is Caesar

Sue was going to come over yesterday to share some card making things, but she didn't call until we were eating dinner, and I didn't offer to interrupt our dinner to have her come, so we will try to get together on the weekend.  She is heading for Montrose to visit her grandkids this morning and will stay a day or two.

I was actually a bit productive yesterday ~ at least with things I could do sitting down ~ chuckle.  I made the "bones" for 8 Easter Cards that I copied from a Pintrest video!   I need a wood grain embossing folder (which Sue may have) and some different card stock and ink to finish the cards, and then I need to do some stamping and water coloring, but I have everything cut out so it should just be stamp and assemble.   I rather like the way they are turning out.  I will work on them more today and maybe make a St Paddy's Day card for Mike, though I have no idea what I will make.  I don't have any St Pat's stamps or dies so I'll have to be creative, which you know is a challenge for me.

The guy from Champion Windows is coming at 11 to make the official measurements of the window that needs to be replaced, but that's all we officially have on the docket for today ~ besides getting the trash can to the curb for tomorrow's pick up.  I guess I do have some laundry to fold too.  Our lives are so exciting ~~ and still they are a smidge more exciting than we want them to be.  LOL

Two of the women from the other group can't get in and post.  They weren't able to yesterday and apparently not today either. We have been keeping in touch via our FaceBook group. Another gal and I are able to get in and post without any problem.  I have no idea what the problem is or more importantly how to fix it.    Are you having the same problem, or are you just still not feeling well?   I do hope you are feeling better, and have a good day.

RE:WELCOME TO MARCH CHAT
(Date Posted:03/16/2017 12:05 AM)

My computer shut down while I was posting yesterday so I did too.

I got the most adorable St. Patrick's themed bear yesterday.  He is so
cute and soft, I love him.  According to his tags his name is Conner
Clovers but he is my Quiet Man Sean Thornton. Than you and MIke for
the most delightful surprise.  I love him, he filled all my empty spots.

My mom is sick with C diff an infection that causes watery diarrhea, fever and more.  Some of the main causes are living in a hospital, nursing home, etc.  Being over 65, having had C diff before, and more.  Mom has all these precursors.  It is contagious if you come in contact with it.  So any area's of high use by mom and especially if she does not wash her hands properly.  So now she is on room restriction which just kills her.  I
could not go by her because of my low immune system which would leave
me highly susceptible.
I am glad that you are making some more cards, even if it is just the bones.  For making Mike a St. Pat's card, you can use hearts for making shamrocks, 3 or 4 depending.  Looks at the shamrocks in the tag you used in your post before this one and you will see what I mean.  Use fancy papers, glitters or embossing powders to pretty them.  I am sure you will come up with something cute.
I am not having any issues with Aimoo.  Just my computer and not feeling well.  A couple of bad spells and now I am going to have Maxie tomorrow so I need to see if I can sleep.  Pr
obably not but I am going there now.  The house is a mess and I do not care.  Also will have to reschedule my INR again.  Argh!!  And she will be here at 7am and it is now 1am.  I want to get up at 6 to clean me up a bit.  Wish me luck.  Hugs,

Top of the Morning to Ye.

I did get a St Pat's Day card made for Mike.  He liked it, but it's really nothing to write home about.  I did use the heart shaped dies to make a green three leaf clover (shamrock) and I used smaller green glitter hearts inside!    Great minds!   I just couldn't come up with anything else to make it look more special, and by the time I had a glimmer of an idea I just wasn't up for a do-over.

I also tried to make that Easter bunny face I showed you, and I got the face and the ears done but don't have the right size dies or punches to make the mouth or the eyes, so that one may not happen.    This month's Paper Pumpkin Kit is titled "Bunny Buddies", so it may be something I can use for Easter.  They won't let you see it until it arrives so it's a surprise.  I'd rather know in advance!   It should be here soon, so we shall see, but I would like to have made that Bunny face.

I got the cutest card from Kathy (my Demonstrator) yesterday ~ just beautiful.  She used one of my favorite new stamps, a sort of abstract flower, but she used it so much more cleverly than I would, and she added a branch that is either embossed or cut of copper foil, I can't tell which.  Just gorgeous.   In the envelope, she included a get well card for Barb.  I had asked for her prayers and she has been praying but also sent a card.  Unfortunately, I need to hand deliver it, which would normally be a good thing, but I'm having so much trouble walking and even more standing that I am not looking forward to it.

When Mike took the trash to the curb last night, Barb was bringing hers out at the same time.   I would have expected one of her helpers to do it for her, but I should have known better.  You can't keep a really good woman like Barb down long!   Me, on the other hand, well, I'm just not so good.  LOL

I think leaving my Benicar behind is having the same effect as if I were taking a good diuretic.   I must have been up five times last night, going to the bathroom!   My feet do look more normal size this morning, but I don't feel well rested.  lol   I did get back to sleep quickly after each visit to the bathroom, so I guess I won't complain.  Too much.

I'm sorry your computer shut down, but I'm glad it came back!

I'm also glad to know you have a St Paddy's Bear to help cheer you.  I mean, what could cheer a person more than an Irish Bear? Especially if he is a surprise.   Ha.  I love your renaming him Sean Thornton!   We will be watching 'A Quiet Man' on Friday.   It's Tradition!   You are so welcome ~~ especially if he did make your face smile, and hopefully continues to.

Oh,your poor mom!  That sounds absolutely horrid ~ and when you think about it, it's a wonder folks don't have even more infections and illnesses when they are in a hospital setting for a long time.   Sort of one of those Damned if you don't, damned if you do situations.     I hope it doesn't last long and she isn't isolated for too long.   I'm glad you aren't going to visit ~~ that's ALL you need!

"You're just a gal who can't say no" ~ LOL.   I know how much you are helping, and I HOPE you have at least some fun with Mazzie, but I hope she doesn't wear you out so badly you have trouble bouncing back.   I'm probably just "projecting".  I'm pretty sure I couldn't handle having a little one for the day.  Ha.

Hang in there!   If you survive Mazzie Day, I'll talk to you tomorrow.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

I ONLY HAD ABOUT 2 HOURS SLEEP BEFORE HAVING MAXIE.  CAYLA CALLED ME LATE WED EVENING AND I JUST COULD NOT SAY NO.  SHE SAID SHE COULD PAY ME AND BRING ME SUPPER.  i SAID NEITHER WAS NECESSARY.  THIS TIME I WAS PROBABLY THE SICKEST I HAD BEEN.  SHE WAS PRETTY GOOD. PLAYED WELL WITH THE TOYS SHE BROUGHT, ESPECIALLY HER CELL PHONE.  THIS 4 YEARS OLD HAS A SMART PHONE!  WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD?  IT IS ACTUALLY PACKED WITH VIDEO'S AND HER FAVORITE CARTOONS.  IT IS ONE OF CAYLA'S OLD PHONES.  WE PLAYED MONSTER HIGH DOLLS.  SHE GOT THE 2 DOLLS THAT WERE IN PRETTY SPARKLY DRESSES AND I GET THE DOLL IN HE SWIM SUIT AND A MY LITTLE PONY DOLL.  LOL  i GOT HER TO COLOR WHILE I MADE LUNCH. THEN WE WATCHED THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE.  SHE FELL ASLEEP TOWARD THE END OF IT AND SLEPT TILL HER MOM CAME FOR HER. HER MOM LEFT $15 ON THE TABLE AND ASKED IF SHE AND BOTH GIRLS COULD COME HAVE LUNCH WITH ME ON SAT.  SHE WANTS TO SHOW HER APPRECIATION FOR  MY HELPING THEM. SO I AGREED.
LOOKS LIKE I WILL BE GETTING CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE AS CHRIS IS MAKING IT AND WILL BE GIVING ME SOME...YAY!!!!
MAYBE YOU COULD ASK BARB TO SEND ONE OF HER PEEPS OVER TO YOUR DOOR AS A CARD WAS SENT TO YOU FOR HER.  SHE UNDERSTANDS THAT YOU CANNOT DO IT.  HELL, I CANNOT EVEN WALK TO THE BATHROOM.  I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TAKE A SHOWER BECAUSE OF THE SOB.  I NEED TO GO TO THE DR.  I HAVE TO GO ALL STINKY.
BUT I WANTED TO WISH HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY AND SAY A PRAYER FOR ME.
I NEED IT.  LOVE YOU!!
HUGS,

Sure and it's been a quiet but nice St Patrick's WEEK. On the down side, I'be been awake since 3:15.  :-(   I finally got up and came into the Morning Room, but since I haven't turned the heat up yet (Mike is still sleeping), I'm COLD!

Corned Beef and Cabbage on the menu for tonight, and maybe an Irish Coffee, too.   Of course we'll be watching "The Quiet Man".  It's tradition!

Right now, I'm watching "The Daughter of Rosie O'Grady" with June Haver, Gordon McRae and Debbie Reynolds.

I was actually surprised to see that you had posted today!  I didn't know if or how you would survive your Maxie Day (never mind that I kept calling her Mazie ~ lol).   I'm glad she was so good, and that you are so good with kids.  I haven't been around any for so long that I am sure I wouldn't have anything approaching the patience.    I'm glad that Cayla left you some money, and that she is coming to have lunch with you on Saturday to show her appreciation!   I hate to think of you being taken advantage of.

I am so frustrated with my challenges walking and standing, and I know your situation is far worse.  I hate it for you.  You are definitely in my prayers.  I wish I could do more.

Have a Great St Patrick's Day anyway!

Norwegians, Irish, Lutefisk & Lefse explained

The reason the Irish celebrate St. Patrick's Day is because this is when St.Patrick drove the Norwegians out of Ireland.

It seems that some centuries ago, many Norwegians came to Ireland to escape the bitterness of the Norwegian winter. Ireland was having a famine at the time, and food was scarce. The Norwegians were eating almost all the fish caught in the area, leaving the Irish with nothing to eat but potatoes. St. Patrick, taking matters into his own hands, as most Irishmen do, decided the Norwegians had to go.

Secretly, he organized the Irish IRATRION (Irish Republican Army to Rid Ireland of Norwegians). Irish members of IRATRION passed a law in Ireland that prohibited merchants from selling ice boxes or ice to the Norwegians, in hopes that their fish would spoil. This would force the Norwegians to flee to a colder climate where their fish would keep.

Well, the fish spoiled, all right, but the Norwegians, as every one knows today, thrive on spoiled fish. So, faced with failure, the desperate Irishmen sneaked into the Norwegian fish storage caves in the dead of night and sprinkled the rotten fish with lye, hoping to poison the Norwegian invaders.

But, as everyone knows, the Norwegians thought this only added to the flavor of the fish, and they liked it so much they decided to call it "lutefisk", which is Norwegian for "luscious fish".

Matters became even worse for the Irishmen when the Norwegians started taking over the Irish potato crop and making something called "lefse".

Poor St. Patrick was at his wit's end, and finally on March 17th, he blew his top and told all the Norwegians to "GO TO HELL". So they all got in their boats and emigrated to The Dakotas and Minnesota -- the only other paradise on earth where smelly fish, old potatoes and plenty of cold weather can be found in abundance.

Sure and that's the way it was, and why we celebrate St Patrick's Day today.

Good Morning.  It's still St Patrick's WEEK, right?

We had our Corned Beef and cabbage last night, with little potatoes and carrots and a wee bit of Porter.  Mike cooked it in the crock pot all day and it was delicious ~~ and will make delicious Ruben Sandwiches.  ;-)

This is the card I made for Mike.  Definitely nothing special, but from a distance, like on the mantle, it "pops" and looks ok.  You can't tell but the lighter color is actually glitter.

I slept 7 whole hours last night, interrupted only twice and I got right back to sleep both times.  Ahhhhhh.  I'm human again!

When I turned the TV on this morning, they were showing a 20th anniversary tribute that had been held for Robert Osborn in 2015.  I'm glad he had that, and it was fun to watch.  Now I'm watching . . . . Cinderella!  It's a version I hadn't ever seen with Cate Blanchette  Ridiculous how quickly I got caught up in it.  I guess every "little girl" still sees herself as Cinderella.

I got my Paper Pumpkin kit yesterday.  Kind of cute, but not too usable for me.   I will make four little (and I do mean little) Easter cards and four little Easter Bunny bags for "my" kids and fill them with chocolate eggs.  In the past I have had things sent directly ~ much easier.  This will be a bit of a pain and perhaps not as nice as I've sent in the past, but it will be homemade so hopefully they will like them.  I'll send the "grown up" Easter cards to their parents.   Barb in the other group mentioned that the kids would like the smaller cards because they could hold them easier.  I hadn't thought of that, but it's probably true.

I'm thinking I will ask Sue if she can use some or any of the other five cards and bunny bags.  In addition to her grandkids she does things for friend's grandkids sometimes.   If she can't use them, I'll just save them and some year they will be useable some time, some way.  The Facebook groups often show Alternatives to the things made for the Paper Pumpkin kits.  Some folks are so clever.  I may find an idea I can use there one day.

I hope you got 7 hours of sleep too, and have a great day.

Thank you so much for having Suzanne let me know how sick you are.   You know you will be in my prayers, and I will let the gals in my other group know too.  They often use your borders so they feel like they know you, and of course you know Barb.  They will all want to know, and they will pray for you too.

I hope I see you SOON!
