There is no joy in Mudville.
Mighty Casey has struck out ~~~ oh, no, wait!  That's about baseball.

There is no joy in USA ~ Canada won and goes on to play for either the Gold or the Silver, while team USA must play Finland for the Bronze.  Given the way they played today, I don't think they even have a lock on that. smiley52

Congratulations Canada ~~ you played a great game and won fair and square.

Hello Ladies
Mary Ann, so happy to see you hear.  Though so sorry that you
have been ill again.  I am praying for your health.  I too was
sick and in the hospital but am slowly recovering.  You little ones
are adorable.  I just love seeing the pictures.
Dorothy, I can see why you would prefer the opposite week.  What
I meant about Marcela was that does she not have other people on the opposite week.  Usually cleaning ladies have most of their days booked with their regulars.  Darn, Canada won, now we have to keep Justin Bieber, lol.  I thought that whole joke was hilarious.  I hope that young man does some serious growing up.
This is a quick note as I am not done with my baby gifts.  I did finish the painting but still need to work all my ends in on the cocoon and add the football stitching to the outside.  Then I will take a picture and share it with you tomorrow.  So I had better skedaddle.  OMG, that is a real word??  LOL
Hugs,

Good Morning

Oooh, Lou Ann, you are definitely spoiling us ~ and we love it!  Thank you so much for the great new tag ~ and border!

Yes, Marcela does have other clients, and when she's needed to change a date we've had to work around her schedule.  That's why her not wanting to get back on the original schedule kind of surprised me ~ in addition to not wanting to give the extra service and get the additional money for it.  Ah, well.

We do feel terrible about having to keep Justin Bieber, too.  Lol.  It's funny, when he first came on the scene he was so clean cut and polite and his music wasn't bad (not good or bad from my perspective).  I thought he would be a good role model for his young fans.  Have Mercy!  What a disaster.  Where are his parents?!   Clearly all that money and success and people "worshiping" him is too hard for a kid to overcome without some pretty strong parental control ~ or maybe even with it.  Too bad.

It sounds like you are making good headway with your baby gifts.  I love that you make them and I can't wait to see the pictures.

Hello Cuppa Gals
I was up till 2 in the morning finishing the baby cocoon and hat.  I had a hell of a time getting the football stitching right and we decided that the hat was too small and I had to make another one.  But it was worth it!  It was a big hit with the parents and all the shower guests.  My pictures are not very good, but here they are.  Well damn, the picture of the football cocoon did not come out.  It now says it is an unknown format even though I could see it when I took the picture I know longer can.  So here is the pattern picture again.  It looked very much like it...

Here is a pic of my baby elephant paining.

Because Louann picked me up I was there early and late while they cleaned up.  I ran out of oxygen, but was ok.  But when I got home my back was screaming and my legs and feet were cramping and that is something new.  The shower was very nice but huge and it took a long time to open all the gifts.  Lots of good food for the luncheon and cupcakes and desserts to die for.  I did feel isolated at it as it was so noisy that I could not hear what was being said by anyone.  Even the people next to me.  Now 2 more to get through this summer, lol.
I have had a knot in my back going into my neck for days and it got worse today.  I asked mom to rub my back and she found the spot and massaged it hard for me and it does feel better.  It sucks when things hurt in spot you cannot reach.
Going to shut down and just relax.  Seem to have a recurring headache that might go away if I rest my eyes.
Have a blessed Sunday.
Hugs,

RE:WELCOME TO FEBRUARY SIGN IN
(Date Posted:02/23/2014 11:54 AM)

Yup.  We woke up to snow again.  Just a "skiff" and I think it's through.   Right now, it's 27 and foggy, looking for a high of 52.

I had planned to make a crock pot pork roast with veggies today.  The roast had been frozen, but we "thawed" it in the garage fridge for the last three days, so it would be ready to pop into the crock pot later this morning.   Well, no.  It's still frozen hard as a rock!   We don't go into that fridge very often and it must be good and cold ~ ha.   So now, it's continuing to thaw in the fridge in the house and hopefully I'll make it tomorrow.

We burned through House of Cards, watching two or three episodes a day.  Not smart a'tall, but when we'd finish watching one, we couldn't WAIT to see what the next had in store for us.    We started watching Downton way after everyone else had watched all the episodes, so we watched it OnDemand, and burned through all the first three seasons the same way.  Wanting to savour it, but not being able to stand not seeing what happened next.  Ha.

Now we have found the original House of Cards, which was a British TV series made in the early 90s.   I'd heard it was better than ours (they always say anything British is better than ours.  Not necessarily so!).    Anyway, you can buy all three seasons from Amazon OR you can stream the first season free on Prime.   We watched the first episode this morning, and we liked it.   British Parliament is confusing to me, but Ian Richardson (who plays Francis Urkhart) has the most wonderful facial expressions when he turns aside to tell us what he's really thinking.   His wife is much more overtly political (think Lady McBeth) than Robin Wright, who is every bit as ruthless, but sneakier.   You can recognize the other characters and the basic story line is the same.   It's definitely going to fill the American 'House' withdrawal that we're feeling.   Only one season is free, so will we be able to wait for the next two seasons, or will we break down and buy it?   (I suspect we both know the answer to that.  lol)

I'm not sure your mom would like House of Cards, at least not our American version.   Lots of very "naughty" language and activities.   Since I think you may be a dirty old lady like me, you might.     Maybe the British version will be more 'refined' ~ though I wouldn't count on it.  Those Brits are pretty bawdy, it seems to me.

Looks like Downton is a two hour episode tonight, so maybe they will get some of those loose ends tied up ~~~ and hopefully not leave us with a cliff hanger.

I'm sorry you couldn't get a good pic of the football cocoon that you made.  Guess you'll just have to take a pic of the little one IN it when he arrives.   I know it has to be the cutest thing ever.

I love your painting of the little elephant, too.  You are so talented!

I can understand not being able to hear all that is going on around you with everyone talking at once.   I often have that trouble in a really big group, and I hate it.  I keep telling Mike I'm gonna get an ear trumpet.  ha!

I'm sorry, but not surprised, that you came home in pain from all that sitting.   Hope you're feeling all better today!

RE:WELCOME TO FEBRUARY SIGN IN
(Date Posted:02/23/2014 7:01 PM)

I have come to the conclusion that my mom only like trash tv.  She loves Jerry Springer, Maury, The Bill Cunningham Show, Cheaters, Baggage and anything along that line.  I do not like any of these shows.  When she is not home, I do not watch them.  But she does not like my favorite show either...which are Criminal Minds, NCIS, Law and Orders and the CSI's.  There are some new ones I would like to see too, but not likely to happen.  We do like some of the same reality shows such as Sister Wives...like the wives, think he is a jerk, lol, DWTS, AI and I do not know what else, lol.  We watch far too many reruns, because she does not remember seeing them.  Even though we have several times :(  But I love her and will watch it again for her, but it is hard sometimes.  I just completed my last Plugin Lesson.  #145.  Here it is.

I cannot believe I finally finished them. It is a relief.  If I had known how many lesson there were I may not have taken them on, so it is good that I did not know.  Hahaha.

I do feel better today.  I actually went to bed by midnight...2 hours earlier than I normally do and I slept to 8 so that was great.

Monday, Nerissa finds out the sex of her baby.  We are hoping for a girl :D but as long as all is well, we will be happy.  They have the names picked out already.  If it is a girl, her name will be Taylor Olivia Bertram is a boy, his name will be Samuel Aaron Bertram.  I am soso about Taylor but I love Olivia.  That was Rissa's first pick.  Matt wanted the 2 they are using in either order but they decided they did not like Olivia Taylor because it sounded like Elizabeth Taylor.  Silly if you ask me.  I do not know where they got Samuel....Aaron is her brother Reid's middle name and there is Aaron Rodgers, lol.  Nerissa agreed to Taylor as a first name because she dreamed she had a girl and in the dream her name was Taylor.  So I said, well then I guess it is fate.

No idea what Tricia and Reid are considering.  Never got to talk to Tricia.  Finn would not come by me.  With the W/C and the O2 he was kind of freaked out.  I do not have the W/C when I go to Fauska's and he has never seen me with oxygen.  He was so cute but started getting fussy toward the end.  So she left early and did not help with clean up.  She should have left Finn with Reid.  But maybe he was busy.  I think it was a cop out though.  It was a big mess to clean up Louann, Kirstie, Rissa and Laurie (Nick's step mom) were the only ones doing it and Kirstie and Rissa both pregnant.  I worried about them moving tables, etc.  But they assured me they were being careful.  Still!!!!

Time to move on.  I have an appt to see a new Opthalmologist tomorrow.  He is Hawaiian.  I am hoping he is young and hot!

Hugs,

RE:WELCOME TO FEBRUARY SIGN IN
(Date Posted:02/24/2014 9:26 AM)

Yeah, Right.   Yesterday he knocked yet another good glass to the floor and broke it.   Soon we will be drinking from old Peanut Butter jars.

Ah, well.  The sun is shining and it may be a beautiful day.  It's 39 degrees and cloudy, heading for 55 degrees and sunny this afternoon.  I can handle it.

Mike has someone coming to tow the Chrysler to the shop this morning so they can hopefully see what's wrong with it.   It still won't start.   We checked the receipts for when we got the still new battery, and it was just over a year ago, in January.  We had a new Alternator installed at the same time.  The battery is still under warranty, but I expect not the labor.  Mike thinks the alternator was only warrantied for 90 days.  Supposedly they ran full diagnostics on the car then and pronounced it healthy.  Sigh.

I need to put that Pork Roast in the crock pot with some carrots and potatoes around 10 or so this morning.   It seems to be thawed finally, but I may leave it in the sink for an hour anyway.   Then I need to work on those Merck stock sale taxes again ~ it's such an unbelievably small amount of money for such a huge amount of work. smiley54

We watched the second episode of the British House of Cards last night.  I think it's quite good, but I like our version better.  I must just be too Low Brow or something.   When we first looked for the series, it was not free on Amazon Prime, and not on Netflix at all.  Then I decided we should go ahead and buy the three season DVD, and when I looked for it, the first season popped up Free on Prime and now all three seasons are available on Netflix.   Unfortunately for us, we already sent for the three season DVD, but we'll probably still watch the other two seasons on Netflix cuz we're often too lazy to get up and pop a DVD in.  LOL

We really do like a lot of British shows, and often watch them with the closed caption turned on if it's available.  You can't understand Cockney accents (who can ~ lol), but I have more trouble with the high born types.   One of our favorite series is the Inspector Lindley Mysteries (from the books of American author Elizabeth George).  I have a really hard time understanding them, and our DVDs don't have closed captions!   What's worse is anytime I see an interview with Prince William or Prince Harry!  I can barely understand a thing they say!  LOL

Then the two hour Downton Abby ~ which turned out to be an hour and a half Downton and a half hour fundraiser.  Large part of the reason we don't watch much PBS.  The first hour and a half, though ~ wowzer.   I smiled through the entire last half hour!  Before that I was ready to smack Mrs Hughes upside the head for running to Lady Mary with her 'discovery'.   I normally love Mrs Hughes and can barely tolerate Lady Mary.   Really fun episode and Season ender.   Did you feel like you'd missed a few episodes?  The last one I watched, Lady Edith was getting ready to go to France, and in this episode she was back and with a major event having happened when I wasn't looking!

Lou Ann, thank you for the lovely tag and avatar!   I love them and have them saved!

You've learned so much through  your Plug-In lessons and made such beautiful things!    I rarely make tags anymore and I've lost all of my Plug Ins.  You helped me with regaining them, but they still aren't working for me.  I suspect I have missing dlls and whatnot.   I just rarely try anymore, which makes me even happier to have others make lovely things for me!

So many new babies!   How fun!   Sadly, while I have three precious new great-great's, I probably won't meet any of them until they are in their terrible teens and won't want to have anything to do with an old lady like me.   Still, I do love getting the pictures and videos.   I got a new video of Vince yesterday.  Adorable.

Good luck with your new Ophthalmologist.   I hope you really, really like him.

Mary Ann, thank you for the prayers ~ and back at you.   I still have one stitch in my tongue, which I can only see by using a mirror and a flashlight ~ lOL.   It's so funny that when I first saw that white foam-like stuff on my tongue I was concerned.   Mike said it was probably the stitches, but I said 'No.  It's white."   Obviously stitches can't be white, can they?   LOL   Only one left though.  I'm actually surprised that i still have even one after all this time.

So, is Ann is a wheelchair now?   For how long?  Are you taking care of her and the pups??

Have a great day, my Lovlies.

Damn!!  I just lost my post and have not done that in quiet a while.  Oh well.  Here I go again.

Mary Ann, happy to see you back again and thanks for the compliments.  I think there are some other tags for you too.  Not sure where....you will have to skim through the posts.  Also I believe there is one on the tag pick up thread.

Dorothy, I hope the car is something simple and easy and reasonable to fix.  I like Downton Abbey bus am way behind.  I do not think that House of Cards would be for me...not really into watching political based shows.  The Eye appt went well.  Dr. Justin was young and not bad looking, but he is only there for 2 months, so I will not be seeing him again.  All is as well as can be expected with my eyes, they show no damage from diabetes.  He did something new to me...he did and ultrasound of my bad eye.  He said it would probably not be covered by my insurance so they would not charge for it.  He was not comfortable checking the back of the eye on the one that is partially sewn shut, so the ultrasound was a great way to look at it.  No damage to either eye from the Diabetes.  He had a wand type device that he put gel on and then ran it around my closed eye.  It was weird, lol.

I have some pictures from the shower to share.

The shower before guests arrived.

Nick came to help open gifts and load up the big stuff and take it home.

Kirstie put a hooded blanket on Nick

This is a pic taken in Liam's room.

You know I painted the elephant.  Kirstie and Nick did the giraffes.  Louann did the turtle and Louann's mom, Nancy, or great grandma painted the macaw.

Nerissa called to tell me they are having a boy.  So Louann and Bruce will have 3 grandsons and whatever Reid and Tricia have.  They are actually tickled that they are having a boy too as Liam and baby Bertram, as they are now considering other names too, will play together and be friends.  The whole family is so wonderful, I am blessed to have them all.

We are in below zero temps again and supposed to be that way all week.  I do not have to fo out again till Friday and have my INR done.  Then I am going to Louann and Bruce's for the Oscar's on Sunday.  Well it is time to get some sleep.  Trying to go to bed earlier and get up earlier so that I do not affect moms sleep pattern so much.

Hugs,

Ok! So now that we're all wide awake . . . . .

Yesterday afternoon our temperature dropped 20 degrees in one hour!   It had been a balmy 64 degrees, then tanked and was below freezing overnight.   We may have snow at 'drive time', so we're reconsidering our plan to go to the Bonefish for dinner tonight.  We should only get an inch or so, which wouldn't be bad, but you just can't trust the other drivers not to ignore the snow and possibly slippery conditions.   We'll have to see.

Sometime between noon and 2, the "Furniture Medic" is coming to give us an estimate and maybe attach the headboard more firmly to the bed.  It's loose on my side.   Probably something Mike could do if we didn't have such issues with getting to ground level.   There's always an issue with having the right 'tools', too ~ probably a special screw and bolt that would take a long walk in the hardware store to find.

The Chrysler is still in the shop.  They didn't even look at it yesterday.  Not really a problem for them to keep it an extra day as long as they can fix it without charging an arm and a leg.

smiley18

Lou Ann, how neat that the new (unfortunately temporary) Ophthalmologist was able to use a more sophisticated method of examining your eye ~ and that he wasn't going to charge for it.   He sounds like a Keeper ~ and I'm sorry you can't keep him.

Wow ~ what a great shower, and what beautiful things he has.   Your elephant is adorable!   I can't wait to see him in his football snuggy ~~ but I guess not waiting is not an option.

I will do my INR this week too.  Probably on Thursday instead of Friday because we have a friend coming over to go out to lunch with us and then come back to the house for a good long visit on Friday.   She lives in Castle Rock, which is about as far away from us as you can get in the same metro area, so we don't actually get together all that often.  She is going through a divorce, so there will be lots to talk about

smiley18

Waving to Mary Ann.   Wakey, Wakey!

Hello Cuppa Gals
I did not do much of anything today.  A lot of game playing on my iPad and reading some.  Now I have to find another boy cocoon and get started on it so that I am not up till 2am working on it.  I went from crocheting and painting to doing nothing.  Maybe I should work on painting the chalk nativity figurines my sister Diane gave me to paint for her. We will see.  Friday I have to have my INR rechecked and Josh wants me to do his taxes on line for him.  So I will have him run me over to the clinic and then I will do his taxes.  Been a long time since I filed taxes but I figure I would use Turbo Tax and that will walk us through everything.
Glee and Rizzoli and Isles were both back tonight.  Made it a good night for tv for me :)
I have another pic to share.

R-L
Kirstie, Louann and Bruce's youngest, Tanya (cousin) Louann sister Peggy's daughter, Nerissa, Louann and Bruce's oldest girl, Tricia, married to Reid, Louann and Bruce's oldest child...mother of Finn.  Right after this Finn got in the picture and stuck out his tummy, it was so funny.
I am off to bed.  Have a wickedly good Wednesday.
hugs,

RE:WELCOME TO FEBRUARY SIGN IN
(Date Posted:02/26/2014 9:04 AM)

Good Morning, Lovlies.

Our crazy weather continues.   We started getting flurries in the early afternoon, but nothing stuck.  we decided to go ahead with our original plan to go for dinner at the Bonefish Grill.  Tuesday is Lobster Day.  I don't know how much longer that will last, but for now they are still serving their lovely Lobster rolls (lobster salad in a brioche bun), and I'm addicted.  So is Mike.

This morning we woke to Snow!  I don't know how much, enough to cover grass, walks, driveways and roads, but I'm not sure it's enough for them to shovel.  Not a major problem, I suspect, because it's supposed to reach 57 degrees tomorrow, so it should melt on the pavements.

The Furniture Medic came right on time yesterday and fixed the headboard on our bed.   I really thought I had broken it and felt terrible about it.  Mike kept reassuring me that I hadn't ~ and as usual, he was right.   All the guy had to do was tighten all of the bolts (on both sides, though only my side seemed loose) and since he had so little to do, he tightened the bolts on the foot board, too.   He added some sort of glue to ensure it doesn't come loose again and did it all for just the trip charge.

The car folks didn't call "first thing in the morning" as they had promised, so Mike called them in the afternoon.   They couldn't find anything wrong with either the battery or the alternator and said it was just 'dead' from lack of use.   True we don't drive like we once did, but Mike is religious about starting it when we don't drive it, and driving it at least once a week.    I guess it's good news.  We have a coupon for them to check out the battery and electric system for $29, and they have a shuttle they will send to pick Mike up when it's time to get the car so I don't even have to drive.     They did find that the Oil Pan is leaking, so we decided to go ahead and have that fixed before it becomes a problem.  We should get the car back this afternoon ~ or tomorrow when it's sunny.

I'm so mad at me.  I swear I have Narcolepsy ~ I keep falling asleep when I'm watching tv.  Sooo irritating!    I watched the first 20 minutes of Rizzoli and Aisles, and the last 20 minutes, and completely missed the middle.    We had watched NCIS and an episode of that British "House of Cards", then came into the bedroom at 9.  I got all comfy in bed and turned the light off and . . . gone!   (Not that I can't fall asleep just as easily watching tv with the lights on.  lol)    Thank goodness for OnDemand, so I can watch Rizzoli again and see what I missed!

It's fun to see the pictures so I know who you are talking about.   Cute girls, all.

Mike uses Turbo Tax for our taxes, too.   Yesterday we got that Merck stock sale stuff done ($400 and something Capital Loss) so it can be input , and I think he has everything else done for the Feds.  Then on to the State, which is mostly just a reflection of the Federal.

IT IS TOO DAMN COLD HERE.  WHEN IS SPRING COMING?  I WANNA KNOW, I DEMAND TO KNOW.  ARGHHHHH!

OK, GOT THAT OUT OF MY SYSTEM.  NOW WHAT.  ANOTHER LAZY DAY DOING A JIGSAW PUZZLE AND READING.  WHAT A LIFE.  I LOVE IT, BUT FEEL AS IF I SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING.  BEING PRODUCTIVE IN SOME WAY....CLEANING MY BEDROOM WHICH HAS BECOME A CATCH ALL SINCE OCTOBER WHEN CHRISTMAS GIFTS STARTED ARRIVING.  IT IS SO HARD FOR ME, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE DONE.  I CANNOT ASK JOSH AS HE HAS ENOUGH TO DO BETWEEN SCHOOL, HIS JOB AND TRYING TO HAVE A SOCIAL LIFE.  SO I NEED TO MUDDLE THROUGH SOMEHOW.  LOUANN HAS OFFERED TO COME AND HELP GO THROUGH THINGS IN THE BASEMENT SO THAT I CAN SELL SOME THINGS OFF ON EBAY.  I HAVE A COUPLE OF PLATE COLLECTIONS AND A LOT OF CHRISTMAS COLLECTIBLES, ETC THAT I CAN SELL.  I AM WORRIED ABOUT HOW I WILL PAY THE HOSPITAL BILLS.  I CAN SEND THE CREDIT CARD MINIMUM PAYMENTS TILL HOSPITAL IS PAID OFF AND PROLONG MY PAYMENT PLAN.  MAYBE IT WILL NOT BE THAT BAD AND I AM WORRYING NEEDLESSLY.

WE NEED TO FIND A TEENAGE GIRL THAT WOULD COME IN ONCE A WEEK TO DO OUR LAUNDRY AND THE FLOORS.  THOSE THINGS ARE SO HARD FOR US.  JUST A COUPLE HOURS OF WORK.  NEED TO ASK AROUND AND SEE IF ANYONE KNOWS SOMEONE.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW A BATTERY CAN NOT START BUT HAVE NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.  THAT MAKES NO SENSE, ESPECIALLY AS YOU SAY MIKE ALWAYS STARTS IT ONCE A WEEK.  WERE YOU HAVING SUBZERO TEMPS AT THE TIME?  COULD SOMETHING HAVE FROZE UP?  GLAD TO HEAR THE BED WAS AN EASY FIX.

HAVE A GREAT THURSDAY!

HUGS,

Hello My Friends.

Looks like a lovely day here in Colorful Colorado.  It's currently 32 degrees, which I do believe is FREEZING, but we're headed for a high in the mid-50s.

All of our snow melted by early afternoon yesterday so I was able to get the trash and recycle bins out to the curb when I picked up the mail.      We never did get a call from the Chrysler place!   It was probably just as well, because poor Mike was feeling pretty rough.  He'd had stomach cramps all night and had barely slept at all.   I got up early and went into the front room so I wouldn't disturb him, and peeked in o him several times when he was finally sleeping.  The third time I checked on him, he was awake so I got his pills for him and then left him alone again.  By mid-afternoon he was doing better and seems to have slept through the night last night.   He'll have to call the Chrysler place I guess, or they will never do anything!  I really hope when they make their automated "How did we do" call, he answers the phone and tells them how 'good' their service was!  Grrrrr.

I need to play Marcela today, and I'm not very good at it.  She can clean the whole house in 2-3 hours and it would take me 2-3 days.   I'll just wash and Bona the wood floor, polish the granite countertops and go over the wood blinds in the front room that apparently haven't been done in a while.  If I have any ambition left, there are many other things that should be done, too.  An old friend who lives in Castle Rock (about as far away from us as you can get and still be in "Metro Denver) is coming over to go out for lunch with us tomorrow, and then we'll come back here so she and I can have a good visit.  We almost never get together in person.  She is going through a divorce and has her house on the market, so we'll have much to talk about.  I just don't want the dirt in my house to be one of the topics. smiley57

I've been having a lot more lazy days than I can possibly justify, and worse ~ I don't even try to justify them anymore.  Ha.   Like you, there are so many things I could and should be doing, but actually doing them is a whole 'nuther matter.

I hope you are pleasantly surprised that the insurance covers much more of your hospital stay than you think it will.  Fingers crossed for you.

It would be so great if you could find someone to come and help you once a week!  Have you checked Senior Services?   There are several places that provide all sorts of help and some of it may be covered, but since they are under the 'banner' of a business, they charge more than if you could hire the person directly.   My cousin in Des Moines, the one who had the stroke that left her nearly blind, had people coming to clean and do laundry for her for a while.  She said they wanted to visit or play games or watch TV with her, and then when the time of their service was over, they'd do their paperwork and call their hours in and she'd be charged for the "overtime".   She was more than "hot".   Now her grandson and his lady friend are cleaning and doing laundry for her.

Apparently a lot of folks requesting help from Service Agencies are lonely and really want someone to just be with them for a while.  I know that's not what you need, so you need to be clear that you want real cleaning and laundry done, and if they want to visit after their work is done and they are off the payroll, fine.  Ha.   I really hope you can find someone.
