Updates from our next door neighbor ~
April 5, 2016
Greetings from Lome,
Well I have finally made it to the capital city of Togo, Lome. It has been a crueling trip with two delays taking me over 22 hours but I have to say that the Lord provided His hand of protection for me all the way. Got through customs without difficulty- Praise the Lord and hopefully everything is intact but I have not been able to check my luggage which feels lighter than when I left so we shall see. Trying to be sensitive to the customs of the people, I slipped into the bathroom in Paris to change into a skirt since I did not want to be labeled as a “prostitute” by wearing slacks. To my surprise as I was boarding the plane to Lome, I noticed that there was not even one woman with a skirt or dress on! I guess that the capital city has become modernized like the rest of the world and it is just on the outskirts that I have to wear a skirt! I must be a sight because I did not realize that my cell phone was going to be an issue with the skirts that I had purchased since it is so heavy and without a belt, the one side of my skirt is about 4 inches lower than the other side! The joys of trying to find clothes that are suitable for the climate but still functional. What we women have to put up with!
I am staying at a Lucia guesthouse in the capitol tonight before I head out to the hospital tomorrow. It should be a 3 hour trip but this I hope will be a piece of cake compared to the last three legs of the trip.
Thank you all for your prayers and support. Without it, I know that I could not be making this trip. But with your faithfulness I am continued to be reminded that I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Phil 4:13 It is on the basis of this verse that I continue to hold fast. It is time to try and get some sleep for tomorrow will prove to be a busy day as I try to get my bearings for the challenge ahead.
Standing on His promises,
