"The Guy" and his crew came at 20 minutes to 9 and were gone by 10 after 10!  I think he did a good job based on what he told us he did.  Not only had the earth slipped but the "support" which looked like a concrete block, was actually plastic.   He built up the area within the retaining wall, added a cushioning beneath the support and changed the plastic for concrete.  He also added another layer of brick to the retaining wall.
Since we can't walk on the darned rock, I asked him to take pictures for me.

This is "Before" (Yiikes!)  ~~

This is "After" ~~

Whew!  I'm so glad that's done!

I was crying this morning when I watched the entire Ottawa Parliment stand to applaud Mr Vickers, the Sargent at Arms who shot the Terrorist when he came in to take his normal position.  He was so noble, clearly touched but trying not to show it, truly an honorable, humble and fine man.   This Coloradoan was applauding him, too!

No major plans here today, now that we survived our morning.   Marcela brought her friend (I can never remember her name!) with her and the two of them made fairly short work of the cleaning, but did a good job.   Soooo, by 11 everyone was gone.  Yay!   It's ridiculous that we have others doing all of the work for us and WE get so tired.  LOL

I think we're meeting for a cup of tea (Earl Grayer ~ my new favorite ~ and yes, I did say Gray-er) later this afternoon while we watch The Five.

RE:OCTOBER CHAT
(Date Posted:10/23/2014 10:54 PM)

I am having a bad week and will be happy when this weekend is over with.
My blood just made it over into my range at 2.1.  They are going to have me continue the same dose and come back in a week or so and check it again. Trying to get the house in order for the weekend is too much.  All for a one night stay here.
Mom fell again last night around 1am.  She tried over and over again to get up out of her chair.  I wanted to scream at her to use the lift in the chair but did not as I knew she would get angry.  She finally got up and she was going to go to the bathroom but kept bending down to pick up something from the floor, I was about to say stop before you fall and down she went.  She seemed all right but her upper right arm hurt.  I called Jordan but no answer so I called Suz.  She answered with Did she fall again and I said yes.  So Suz and Jordan came over and Jordan got her up.  Today her arm was bothering her so I wanted her to see someone but she kept saying she did not need to.  I said Suz could take you to Convenient Care when she takes you for your port flush.  I guess Suz got the nurses there involved and they all said she should get it checked out so she did.  Nothing is broken, more than likely bruised muscle.  Ice 48 hrs, then heat.  She had sat with heat on it today even though I said it should be ice.  If not better by next week she should see her Dr.  She already has an appt to see her Dr. next week so that is good. I am not dealing well with the stress and now she cannot do much and I will have to try and finish up around here.  I see she spilled something on the dining room floor as I stepped in something sticky.  So I have to clean the bathroom and rewash the floor, sweep the kitchen and dining room and wash that area that is sticky.  Dust and vacuum the living room.  This will be my Friday and I am popping extra strength tylenol like crazy lately.
Your AC looks much better than it had.  What a difference and he seems to have done a good job on it.  That dessert sounds awesome.  I would have wanted all 3, lol.  I may or may not get in until Sunday night.  Seems they have a lot planned for the weekend and I think I will be wiped out tomorrow.  I will come in if I can.
Hugs,

DOROTHY

I CRIED TODAY.  YOU MADE ME CRY.  I GOT YOUR "HALLOWEEN"

PRESENT.  YOU ARE WONDERFUL AND YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU.  PART OF

ME IS SO HAPPY AND PART OF ME WANTS TO TEAR IT UP, AS I TOLD YOU

NOT TO SEND IT.  YOU ARE SO DEAR TO ME.....I DO NOT THINK I CAN

ACCEPT IT.  I FEEL AS IF MY WHINING ABOUT COSTS, ETC WAS LIKE

BEGGING.  I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO.  I ASKED MY MOM WHAT I

SHOULD DO AND SHE SAID ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE THAT.

I WIPED MYSELF OUT YESTERDAY.  I CLEANED THE BATHROOM, SWEPT

AND REWASHED THE FLOOR IN THERE TOO.  I DO NOT KNOW WHAT

JORDAN DID BUT UNLESS HE JUST TOOK A COUPLE OF SWIPES ACROSS

THE FLOOR.  THEN I SWEPT THE KITCHEN FLOOR AND I WAS EXHAUSTED

AND HURTING.  I HAD TAKEN A BREAK AFTER THE BATHROOM AND THEN

AFTER THE KITCHEN AND WAS NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO SWEEPING

THE DINING ROOM AND DUSTING AND VACUUMING THIS LIVING ROOM.

THEN JORDAN WALKED IN AND WE SAID WHAT'S UP?  HE SAID HE WAS

HERE TO VACUUM FOR US.  I ASKED HIM WOULD HE PLEASE SWEEP THE

DINING ROOM TOO.  HE DID.  THANK YOU LORD!!  SO I ONLY HAD

DUSTING TO DO AND SAID I WOULD DO THAT SAT. MORNING.  I SLEPT

TILL 9 AND WAS HURTING WHEN I GOT UP, ONLY TO FIND THAT MOM

HAD DUSTED ALL BUT THE CURIO CABINET AND MY END TABLE.  SHE

COULD NOT REACH THE TOP OF THE CURIO BECAUSE OF HER

SHOULDER.  WE GOT EVERYTHING DONE AND NOW, NO ONE IS

STAYING HERE....OMG.  MOM SAID, WELL, OUT HOUSE IS CLEAN.

THAT IN ITSELF IS WONDERFUL.

TODAY WAS FUN, THOUGH TRYING.  WENT TO MY SISTER JOANNE'S AT

ABOUT 3:30.  AUNTIES, ETC HAD JUST GOTTEN THERE.  THEY CAME

INTO TOWN TO MY SISTER DIANE'S AND SPENT A COUPLE HOURS THERE

AND THEN THEY ALL CAME OUT TO JOANNE'S.  LOTS OF HOR DOURVES

AND SWEET TREATS.  THEN WE PLAYED A DRINKING GAME BUT USED

CANNED DRINK, MANGO PASSION, (HAD ALCOHOL IN IT) AND YOU HAD

TO DRINK A SHOT OF IT IF YOU LOST.  I DID NOT LOOSE BUT I HAD TO

TRY IT AND IT WAS GOOD.  MY AUNTS BROUGHT SOME WINE WITH

THEM AND I HAD A SMALL GLASS OF RISQUE FROM TOAD HOLLOW AND

REALLY LIKED IT.  IT IS LOW ALCOHOL.  IT IS A SPARKLING WINE.

  http://cart1.bloyal.com/toadhollow/ToadHollowStore/CATALOG/ALLWINE/RISQUE

I WOULD DEFINITELY GET IT AGAIN AND PROBABLY DRINK THE WHOLE

BOTTLE, LOL.  NOW WHEN I GET MY BLOOD CHECKED ON MONDAY I WILL

HAVE TO ANSWER YES TO THE QUESTION- HAVE YOU HAD ANY ALCOHOL

IN THE PAST 48 HOURS.

TOMORROW IS BREAKFAST AT DIANE'S AT 9:30AM AND THEN LATER TO

JOANNE'S FOR A LATE LUNCH.  AM GOING TO TAKE OUR TRICK OR TREAT

CANDY OUT TO JOANNE'S SINCE WE WILL BE THERE FOR TRICK OR

TREAT, I THINK.  IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE 68 TOMORROW, THE

WARMEST DAY FOR TRICK OT TREATING IN A LONG, LONG TIME.

I WILL HAVE TO GET TO BED EARLIER THAN USUAL TO BE UP AND READY

TO GO AT 9:30.  I HAVE TO GET UP, GET DRESSED.  GET MY OXYGEN

READY TO GO SO I DO NOT FORGET THE CORD FOR PLUGGING IT IN

.  TODAY I GOT OUTSIDE AND REALIZED I HAD FORGOTTEN MY CANE

AND THOUGHT I WOULD GO WITHOUT IT, BUT SUZ RAN BACK IN FOR IT

.  I REALLY JUST USED IT WHEN I AM OUTSIDE.  ONCE I AM INSIDE I

TRUST MY FOOTING MORE.

CHAT WITH YOU TOMORROW.

The Witch is:  IN

Now you know what I wore to the party.

Good Morning.

We did make it to the Halloween party last night, and I'm so glad we could.  I've been having fits with my back, but it has been better for the  last few days. Then just before we were to go, Mike wasn't feeling well!  He decided to go anyway, and it was ok.

We drove around the corner and parked so we only had a short distance to walk, then here came our new next door neighbors, Jake and Alice, driving up as well.  We had a chance to visit and I learned that Alice has a herniated disc on her neck that makes walking difficult for her, too.  And she likes our "Christmas tree" ~ definitely my kinda gal!

The house where the party was held is the same model as ours, but with a different elevation so it looks entirely different outside.  Inside, it is a mirror image of ours, with some differences we had included.  I like their house better than ours!  Terrible!  This was actually the house they let us see when we were thinking about building here, and we both knew as soon as we walked through the door that this was "our" house.

They are the Host and Hostess with the Mostess and have everything for creating a perfect Halloween party. We brought a bottle of wine even though she said not to bring anything.  They had Italian sausage and meatballs and bread to make sandwiches from them, salads and other goodies and lots of cookies and cakes.   We visited and and had a glass of wine with other guests in the great room and then moved into the dining room (in our house, the Library) to eat.    Very nice evening.  We were the first to leave ~ I'll have to share the last picture I took of Mike.  He had begun to droop.  Ha.  Anyway, I'm so glad we went, and so were a few other people who know we can't always come.  They made me feel good.  I do have pictures to share, and others too some too.  I may wait to see what they share before posting.

smiley1

Oh, please don't tear up the check or you will make ME cry, and they won't be Happy Tears!   I would give anything if there were some way to just slip in the back door and pay that bill without your knowing who did it.  It's awkward to accept money from a friend, and I 'get' that, but the other side of the coin is that this is something I really, really wanted to do, and not because I thought you were 'whining'.  You were not.  Friends can tell each other their concerns, but I never had a moment's doubt that you could and would pay for it without help.  Ok, I did have a concern that you wouldn't GET it at first and wouldn't be able to sleep well, and I hated that soo much.  I know I pushed you, but it gives me so much pleasure to think that you do have a good "bed", even if it isn't as good as your old one, and you can and do sleep through the night.

Much of my life I have lived paycheck to paycheck, paying off credit card debt as soon as I could, just as you do.  We're FINALLY in a place where we are comfortable ~ which is a long way from "rich", but we don't NEED "rich".  Like everyone, one good disaster could wipe us out, but for now we have all we need.  That's largely because we're so gimpy we can't really go anywhere or do much of anything, but we do have all we 'need' for the way we live.  That means we have a few extra bucks to spend, and I can't think of anything I could buy that would give me more pleasure than knowing you can sleep well.

I wouldn't offend you for the world, but I do ask you to do me the favor of accepting my 'trick or treat'.  It would mean so much to me.

And then ~~~ 'nuff said.  If we still had others coming in here, the card would have included a note saying 'just keep this between thee and me'.    If you are sleeping through the night, my face will smile ~ without my even asking it to.

OhMyGosh, I'd be in agony doing that much work!  When I'm sitting (or laying down) I "see" myself doing all sorts of things like that.  Then I stand up.  lol   I don't wonder that you were hurting.  I'm glad your mom didn't hurt herself when she did the dusting!

Bless that sweet Jordan's heart!   I want one!  That's what I need ~ a nephew!  lol

Isn't that just the way?  If you hadn't gotten everything clean and sparkling, EVERYONE would have descended up on you!  It never fails.   As your mom said, it just feels so good to have everything clean for YOU, and we all tend not to do it just for ourselves.  Not "today" anyway.  ha.

Your time with the Aunties sounded delightful!     I've never heard of Toad Hollow Vineyards ~ I LOVE the name!  The Risque sounds delish.  Your Sunday sounds really nice, too.

Trick or Treating is tomorrow there?  Ummm ~ Halloween isn't until Friday!  You guys are jumpin the gun!   What are the kids gonna do on Friday?

Darn!  I just remembered that there was a Good Witch marathon on today, and I forgot to record the newest one.  I'm not sure we have the next to the last one, either.  The last one will be on again tomorrow afternoon, but if we're missing the one before then, I'm not sure how we'll get it.  Phooey!  Guess there are worse problems in the world, eh?

Happy Halloween Week!  Have fun with the family!

I am aching so much and am so tired that I will come in tomorrow morning

to share the rest of the weekend.  It was great to see my Aunts.  I do love

them they really are wonderful.  I will have to take a picture...they gave me

the sweetest little art glass photo holder and it is an elephant.  Mom got a

hedgehog.  I will have to try taking a picture of them.  So cute, sweet and

pretty.  I had never heard of that vineyard either.  It is French.  I like

Sparkling wine and this was delish.

I have to go to bed.  I dozed off once already.  Blood check again

tomorrow but it will be after my sister gets off of work at 3pm.  Keep

your fingers crossed for me.  Had some cabbage in soup and brussel

sprouts today...but had the small glass of wine and hope that

cancels them out, lol.

I did get a challenge done today.  I was just finishing the 2nd one when

PSP froze and shut down and I lost all my work. :(

Hugs,

Can you believe that it's almost Halloween?  I dunno. Somehow this year just seems "off".  I think I'm still waiting for Fall or something ~ lol.     We were still in the 80s yesterday!  Today the temp has dropped and we're only in the 50s, much more "Fallish", today anyway.

I still haven't had the windows washed and they need it soooo bad.  I hope I'm not too late.  I was having so much trouble when I should have had it done that I just didn't call ~ you'd think I was gonna climb on a ladder and do it myself or something.  Ha.

I did post the Halloween party pictures in a Separate thread, a combination of the ones I took and the ones Dee took.  Not great pics, but I did want to take you to the party with me.    I kept seeing people and then they would disappear and re-appear.  I finally realized that half the folks were going downstairs!  I didn't so I have no pictures of that area or the folks who were there and neither did Dee.  They have half of their basement finished and it's awesome.  A large "living room" with a fireplace and entertainment center just like the one in the upstairs great room plus a Wet Bar, and a large bedroom and bath.   Just a wee bit more impressive than our "Guest Suite", but they do entertain and we do not.    Anyway, there are there if you're interested.

Thank you for the 'bloody' tag!    I'm sorry you lost everything, but at least it was after you had saved our tags.

Your time with your Aunts sounded lovely, and so do your gifts.   I can definitely understand your being tired and sore, but I'm so glad you're having a good time.

Sending good thoughts for your blood tests.   I thought mine on Thursday was going to be bad, but it was a lovely 2.4.  Yay!   Wishing you the same!

Have a Happy Day!

RE:OCTOBER CHAT
(Date Posted:10/27/2014 2:32 PM)

FIRST OFF, I HAVE DECIDED TO KEEP YOUR GIFT, GIVEN WITH LOVE.
THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH.  YOU ARE SO SPECIAL TO ME.  I AM SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT AND NOW I WILL THINK OF YOU
EVERY NIGHT WHEN I GO TO MY "BED".  THANKS AGAIN.  IF YOU THINK I SHOULD REMOVE ALL REFERENCES TO THIS I WILL.  BUT JUST FIGURED IT WAS JUST YOU AND ME.

I ENJOYED YOUR PARTY PICTURES, THANKS SO MUCH FOR TAKING
ME WITH YOU.  I COMMENTED ON THE PICTURE POSTING.

DOROTHY, IT WAS NOT THE BLOODY TAG I MADE THAT I LOST.  IT WAS THE 2ND CHALLENGE TAG.  BUT I WAS ABLE TO REDO IT THIS MORNING AS I REMEMBERED EVERYTHING I USED.  IT IS THE TAG I AM SHARING TODAY.

SO YESTERDAY STARTED OFF WITH BREAKFAST AT DIANE'S AT 9:30. SHE MADE AN EGG BAKE AND CINNAMON ROLLS.  MOM MADE BLUEBERRY MUFFINS.  I CHOSE MANGO GUAVA JUICE.  THEN WE WENT OUT TO JOANNE'S AND WERE JUST TALKING AND LAUGHING.  I SAT IN A RECLINER TURNED TO THE DINING AREA SO THAT i WAS WITH EVERYONE.  BUT SO MANY CONVERSATIONS AND A COUPLE OF VERY LOUD SPEAKERS MADE IT VERY HARD FOR ME TO HEAR WHAT WAS BEING SAID SO I STILL FELT ISOLATED.  BUT I ENDURED.  FOR LUNCH WE HAD SHREDDED CHICKEN AND GRAVY ON ROLLS, CHEESY POTATO BAKE CORN AND YOUR FAVORITE.....BRUSSEL SPROUTS.
DELISH.  MY AUNT SANDY MADE A POINT OF SITTING NEAR ME AND CHATTING WITH ME IN THE LIVING ROOM, THAT MEANT A LOT.  MY AUNT PENNY AND GOOGIE TOO.  WE LEFT ABOUT 2:30 AND GOT HOME IN TIME FOR ME TO BAG UP SOME GOODIES AND GO OUTSIDE FOR 3:30 TRICK OR TREAT.  WE SAT OUT WITH NO COATS FOR THE 2 HOURS.  WE CANNOT EVEN REMEMBER THE LAST TIME WE DID NOT HAVE TO SIT WITH WINTER COATS AND GLOVES AND DRINKING SOMETHING HOT TO TRY AND STAY WARM.  IT WAS WONDERFUL.
WE ONLY HAD 33 TRICK OR TREATERS...34 IF YOU COUNT THE LITTLE CUTIE THAT CAME TWICE, LOL.  THEN IT WAS INTO THE HOUSE AND SOME SUPPER WITH PLANS TO WATCH THE NEW GOOD WITH MOVIE AT 8 PM.  SOMEWHERE IN THERE I DOSED OFF AND WAS REALLY CRABBY WITH MOM WHEN SHE TALKED TO ME AND WOKE ME, LOL.
DID THE TAGS WHILE WATCHING THE MOVIE AND WAS SO TOTALLY IRRITATED WHEN I MADE THE EFFORT TO DO THE 2ND CHALLENGE AND THEN LOST IT ALL.  OH WELL, GETTING SO MUCH BETTER AT LETTING THINGS GO.  I KEEP TELLING MYSELF...DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF.

TODAY I WAS GOING TO GET IN HERE EARLY.  I WENT FIRST AND MADE THE TAG AGAIN SO I COULD POST IT FOR YOU.  THEN A FAMILY FRIEND CALLED AND STOPPED IN AND WE HAD A VERY NICE VISIT.  THEN THE LAND LORD STOPPED IT.  HE HAD GIVEN THE UPPER BACK APT 2 WEEKS NOTICE SINCE THEY HAD NOT PAID RENT.  BOTH THE FATHER AND SON HAD QUIT THEIR JOBS.  LAST SATURDAY I SAW THEM TAKE A HUGE LOAD OF CLOTHES TO THEIR VAN.  NO ONE HAS SEEN THEM SINCE.  THEY ABANDONED EVERYTHING UPSTAIRS.  CHRIS WENT UP YESTERDAY AND CHECKED AND SHE SAID IT WAS HORRIBLE AND IT STUNK.  WE CHECKED WITH KATHY WHO LIVES IN THE FRONT UPPER AND SHE SAID THEY HAVE NOT BEEN HERE ALL WEEK.  TODAY THE 2 WEEKS WERE UP SO THE LANDLORD CAME TO LOOK INTO IT.  THEY DID NOT LEAVE KEYS EITHER SO HE WILL HAVE TO CHANGE ALL THE LOCKS AGAIN.  HE NEEDS TO START DOING BACKGROUND CHECKS ON HIS RENTERS.  I CHECKED THE DADS AND THE LIST OF ARRESTS WENT ON AND ON...HE HAS HAD HIS 7TH DUI.  LOT'S OF DRUNK AND DISORDERLY.  WE ARE GLAD THEY ARE GONE.  BEEN WRITING THIS MOST OF THE DAY, OFF AND ON.  AM A BIT WORRIED BECAUSE MONDAY I ATE A KOHLRABI AND DAYS LATER I THOUGHT, I WONDER WHERE THEY FALL IN THE GREEN RANGE AS THEY ARE MUCH LIKE CABBAGE IN TASTE.  TODAY I CHECKED AND THEY ARE RIGHT UP THERE IN THE HIGH VITAMIN K VEGGIES.....DAMN.  WELL, I WILL FIND OUT SOON ENOUGH.
HUGS,

DID NOT GET THIS SENT BEFORE GOING AS THE LAST PARAGRAPH SUDDENLY WENT WONKY AND SCRAMBLED ITSELF.  HAD TO GO AND FIX IT WHEN I CAME BACK.  TODAY TOOK TWO DRAWS, BUT IT SEEMS THIN SO HOPING IT IS GOOD, LOL.

I think Fall has arrived!  It was below freezing last night and will only reach the mid 50s today.

I made meat loaf last night and it was pretty good if I do say so.  Today Mike is going to the grocery store for some fresh produce for his chili.  We got all the non-fresh items in our grocery delivery.  I think he needs to go to the meat market, too.  I have some laundry to do but otherwise a pretty dull day for us.  Tomorrow he will make the chili.

smiley6

I am so happy with your decision!  Knowing you are sleeping well is all the thanks I'll ever need.    If I thought others would pop in, I'd definitely want to remove the earlier posts, but it does seem to be just you and me, kid.   If anyone did pop in, I doubt they'd read back ~ too much stuff to go through.  lol     Anyway, you made my day.

I checked out your comments about the party pictures.  Yes, we did ultimately get dinner, and it was good. I'm really glad we went, even if we can't mingle with the best of them.   More people sat, and I appreciated that ~ ha!  I think the bulk of the "standers" went downstairs ~~ where they probably sat at one of the card tables that were set up for them.  There were still 'standers' upstairs, but not EVERYBODY.

The thing I don't understand is why all those who stand and visit have to stand in the kitchen so anyone wanting to get something from the serving dishes can't get past them ~ or they stand in the entry way so you can't get into the house.   You saw in one of the pictures that they had their kitchen table and pushed up against the window so there was a veritable 'dance floor' where the table usually stood ~ but did anyone stand and visit THERE?  Nooooo.  Harrumph, already!

Great new tag ~ Thank you!   Makes me think of Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn.  lol

Your day with the family sounded wonderful!   I do know what you mean about not being able to hear the conversations when everyone is talking at once.  It's frustrating.  Your Aunts sound lovely.  I love that they actually sat with you and made you feel included!  I know the others don't mean to exclude you, they just get caught up in what they are doing or saying, but the effect is that you do feel excluded, and that isn't a happy way to feel.  Bless the Aunties!

How lovely that the weather cooperated with you so you could sit outside and greet the Trick or Treaters.   I still maintain that you are doing it all wrong.   Halloween is Friday!

Too bad about the men in the back apartment ~ not that they were kicked out.  It sounds like they were not the kind of neighbors you want, but sad that your Landlord has to deal with getting rid of them and cleaning the apartment they obviously left a serious mess, and then finding someone new to rent that apartment.   I would hate to be a Landlord!

Have a great day, and thanks for making mine. smiley35

Hellooooooo.

Days before Halloween and New Yorkers thought they were watching a Halloween prank, and were stunned to realize that what they were watching was a 69 year old woman being beheaded.  The 30 something monster then jumped in front of a train.  At least he had the decency to kill himself.  Is this still America?

Changing the subject because I must ~~ it's barely above freezing right now but heading for 70 degrees.  Right now it sounds like a great day for Mike to make Chili.  We still have some meat loaf left, so he may just make it and let it bubble today, then sit and get better and better until we have it on Friday.    Or . . not.

Today must be Trick or Treat in Aimoo.  I'm having lots of trouble getting the "Only available in a Diamond Community" message in TnT.  My screaming at the screen that "This IS a Diamond Community!" doesn't help, either.   Grumble. Grumble.

I think all the negative election ads are beginning to backfire.  They worked for quite a while  ~ how could anyone possibly vote for the Monster depicted in the ad?  Now . . . they are beginning to make the person hurling the insults look even worse.  I think that's a good thing ~ maybe next time around there might be a few more ads about what the candidate hopes to do for the State or the Country and fewer about what a horrid person his opponent is.  They are spending enough money on this election to develop the cure for cancer!  Enough!

OhMyGosh ~ I'll bet I know just what happened with the address, though I'll need to confirm.   I usually save address labels that I receive and I'll bet I had some old ones saved and just put one on the envelope without even looking at it.  What a dummy!  I will look at those saved labels and get rid of any that are wrong ~ thanks for the heads up.    I was going to say I'll send the right address via email, but I don't imagine there is a problem with posting it here.     It's

6734 Balsam Street

Arvada, CO 80004

I'm sorry you lost your post ~ I know how frustrating that is!    I'd forgotten you had a gift for me!   How fun ~ I can't wait!

Have a super day!

Can you even believe that it's almost Halloween?   I have so many more tags and borders to use!

Mike made his chili yesterday, and it smelled heavenly.  I didn't try any because I wanted to finish off the meat loaf, but he assures me it isn't spicy-hot.  I know that would take it out of the 'awesome' category for some, but I love all the merged and blended flavors, and when it's so hot and spicy that I can't eat it, it makes me MAD.  If it weren't so good, I wouldn't care if I couldn't eat it.    You can always add heat, but you can't take it out.  One of my favorite spices ~ very surprisingly, I know ~ is DLJardine's Blazing Saddle Sauce.  It's a habenero sauce and I have to remember to use only a couple of drops rather than multiple 'shakes' from the bottle, but it has a lovely flavor that even I like in addition to habenero heat.  Mike loves it too, and if he thinks his chili needs a little more heat, he can add a few shakes to his bowl.

Tomorrow night I'll make corn bread to go with it.  In the past, we'd have that early, before the  Trick or Treaters started to come.  I suspect the fact that we are not welcoming the little ones again this year is why Halloween seems kind of "off" to me.

Tonight we are going to BJ's for a very early dinner and maybe a glass of their Pumpkin Ale.  I suspect I'll still have a glass of their wonderful Porter instead, but if Mike gets the Ale we can mix and match tastes.   The most important thing is that it's another chance for me to wear my cute Halloween sweatshirt.  LOL

Helloooooooooo.  Happy, Happy Halloweeeeeeen.

We're off to a good start.  Barbara got back from California yesterday and this morning she brought us a loaf of Sour Dough bread.  She's leaving tomorrow (or is it the day after?) for a brief mission to Guatemala, Then she comes home and leaves again to spend time with family in the East.  We may get to actually visit at Christmas!   In the meantime, we're having sourdough toast for breakfast, and it's yummy.

Should I still make corn bread to go with the chili tonight, or should we have the sourdough?  Decisions, decisions.

Looks like it will be around 50 and no rain for the Trick or Treaters tonight.  I really wish I could greet them.  I do miss that.

I was disappointed in BJ's meal last night, but we still had fun.  They changed the menu and lost all of my favorite salads and substituted "healthy" things.  Seriously, does anyone but Dr Isles actually eat Kale?  LOL  Even my favorite Porter wasn't good, so I switched to a new-to-me wine, Blackstone Merlot and I really liked it.

Then we came home and one of our light bulbs in the kitchen literally exploded when we turned it on!  I've never had that happen before.  Teeny tiny shards of glass everywhere and Shogun wanting to get into it ~ fun.  Not!   This happened right before Bones, so we either missed or were distracted during the first part.  The bad thing about that was that I have really hated most of the Bones episodes this year and this one really looked like fun.  Figures.

Ut-oh.  I'm talking to myself again.  Time to go.

Happy, Happy Halloween!

RE:OCTOBER CHAT

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Sigh, the last post of October, my favorite month.

Where did it go? I am sorry that I missed 2 days, I

knew I missed Wed since the ladies were here but I

thought I posted last night. Cannot believe I missed it.

So, Wed when the ladies came we were having a lovely

evening. Carol wanted to watch the World Series but

we non sports people won. So then she had brought

a movie along to watch. Moms Night Out. She said it

was hysterically funny. We watched it. For some

reason it was in black and white and I could not figure

out why that would be. We checked and there was

not an option to watch in black and white. We stopped

the movie, took it out and put it in again and still it

was black and white. We watched a movie that other

day that played fine and in color, lol. I have not tried

another movie to see if the problem still exists. Ask

Mike please if he has a clue how this happened. The

movie was mildly funny with a couple of exceptional

moments. Have you seen it or plan to see it? If not,

I will tell you what I thought was the funniest moment.

After that was said and done we checked in on the game

or maybe we did that before the movie. Anyway, I have

told you before that I try not to talk politics or religion

with Carol. She only sees things in black and white with

no grey. But a damn political commercial came on and

that started it. There was just something in her tone

that got both Gloria and I going. The she said in a very

condescending way. You just do not understand and then

she repeated it. Gloria looked like she was going to cry

and she started packing up her stuff. Carol was like

"what's wrong?" I said no one likes someone to tell them

they are too stupid to understand and she said it was not

what she meant. I said, well it sounded that way to me

and Gloria said me too. She has been so anxious the last

couple months because they were converting over to

Medicare and needing to find a supplemental, etc. You

know how difficult it is to understand all that insurance

crap. Then when she thought it was all right...they are not

getting bills paid. Seems medicare thought they were still

on insurance. She finally got that straightened out. Then

they had to use the dentist and she gave them all her new

dental insurance info. But in the end, they billed her old

insurance. She was on edge with all this and then Carol hits

her with that she does not understand. She said she was

sick of people telling her she was too stupid to understand

things. She was crying. Carol went and sat with her and

told her she was sorry, it was not what she meant. She

kept talking and hugging etc but Gloria really was not

responding to it. I came up with something funny that made

her laugh and then we were ok again. Carol never

apologised to me and I was on the verge of tears. We have

said now that we will not discuss politics or religion. I just

know she will start it again, but Gloria and I are not going

to respond and I will kindly tell her we are not going that

route.  Mom said she said more than once to "stop talking

politics" but no one was listening.  I heard it once and that

was when we were stopping.

I still have not gotten your pressy in the mail. I cannot find

my postage scale.  It does not weigh much so I will slap

some stamps on it and hope it is enough.

We watched the different talk shows today to see the

costumes.  Live With Kelly and Michael was disappointing.

The View was ok, their costumes were creative.  The Talk,

in the afternoon was excellent, their costumes were

fabulous.  And Ellen was great too.  She was dressed as a

bride and she had a fake man attached to her.  Her arm

came through his and she had a fake arm for that side of

her dress.  Then I saw the face on the fake guy and it was

George Clooney so she was his new bride.  She said her

costume was a total fantasy because she would never be

married to a man.   All the guests on these shows and much

of the audiences were in costume so it was fun.  Saw some

really great costumes.  On the Early Show, or one of the

morninging shows that is on at 8 had a baby carriage with

a baby in it but the head was a real person and she "being a

he, had a crown on and was the new prince. He even had

"guards" from Buckingham Palace with him. (Costumes)

They got stuck in the corn maze because it was too big

and they had trouble getting out.  I found that funny.

I have been so busy. I made bracelets for our 5 out of

town visitors last week. We have been making things for a

Christmas Basket Auction for the fund raiser for the little

boy I told you about who's sitter (his moms boyfriend)

hurt him. He is home now, he survived against the odds.

But one side of his brain is gone. He is a hemiplegic and he

does not have good control of his other side. So far he has

not managed any words. They are having a dinner and music

and a silent auction and a "Chinese Auction". Josh will be

playing between 7 and 8:30 and then someone else takes

over. Our church puppets (they are fantastic) are doing 2

shows. Mom made a beautiful tree skirt for our basket. I

bought 2 old time Christmas TV Episode DVD's for it. One

is TV shows, 49 episodes, from the 50's and 60's. The

other is 6 or 7 Christmas Cartoon shows for kids. Jo is

putting in a candle, a frame, and a wreath and whatever

else she finds in her basement...she picked up things after

Christmas for gifts this year.  Diane is adding to it too.

Then I made the mistake of saying I had a big basket they

could use, but both Joanne and Diane said they had some.

Then all of a sudden today they need my basket.  Damn,  it

was a beauty.  I got it long time ago when basket parties

were the rage.  It looks like new and now it is gone, lol.

But to a good cause.  I hope they get good money for it as

that was not a cheap basket.

I also am a volunteer creator again for the Christmas

Shoebox Event and that is in 2 weeks.  I need to get

started now on making letters and tags for it.  I have to do

at least 4 personalized items for all who join the event and

then I have prizes to make for 1, 2, and 3 place winner.

And a prize for the grand winner.  Then you can offer all

kinds of random tags and letters for all, or the first 10 or

for any that answer any little contest you run.  It cost $25

to get into the event and you are guaranteed at least 100

items...as there are usually over 25 creators.  With that you

also get one raffle ticket.  For every $5 more. you get

another ticket and there are raffles throughout the event.

The creators pay this too.  But there are raffles that are

just for the creators that are for gift certs to all different

clip art, tube and scrap places and there is a goodie bag for

all the creators with tubes, clip art certs for places.  There

are also exclusive tutorials.  That is the one thing that

really bugs me, is that everything that we make is exclusive

to the event.  IM letters cannot be as people can snag them

but all tags you make for the event you cannot make or

offer anywhere else.  I have made some really great tags

for these events.  It hurts to not share them lol.

I have never had Kale, that I no of, but Louann makes

wonderful mixed green salads and I would not be surprised

to hear that she has used Kale.

Hope your chili is yummy and I would just go with the sour

dough bread and make the corn bread another time.
Good bye October, see you in November.
