RE:NOVEMBER CHAT
(Date Posted:11/01/2014 9:51 AM)

Welcome to November!  This year has been so weird ~ it's positively flown by and I feel like I missed it.  lol

We turned the lights off and didn't welcome any Trick or Treaters last night, but still someone rang our bell around 6:30.  We didn't answer because we didn't have anything to hand out.

Mike's Chili was wonderful!  I didn't make the corn bread, but instead we had Barb's sourdough along with some corn bread crackers.  The chili had some warmth, but no out of control fire, so I could enjoy it and Mike said he did, too.  While Mike used to like things quite hot, more and more he's beginning to just like good flavor more than heat, too.

We exchanged Trick or Treats with each other since we weren't handing them out to the kids.  Mike gave me those two HUGE Reese's Peanut Butter cups again!  Abandon all hope of dieting, Dorothy!  Ha.   I gave him a Duluth Trading Company shirt and a tin of Godiva Dark Chocolate covered Pretzels.   I think half the tin is already gone. LOL.  Who needs kids ~ We're never going to grow up, obviously!

Lucy's mom posted a picture of that cute little punkin on Facebook, so of course I 'stole' it.

The little Zombie is her big brother Jack (no relation to me).

Today we will take the Halloween decorations down and put up Thanksgiving.       We also got a new lighted Christmas tree which was delivered yesterday.  It's a foot taller than our old one and with a mixture of white and colored lights.   You can either have it all white or all colored or a mix of both.  Our old one was only white, and we added some strings of colored over it, which was a pain.

We left it in the garage and after we return the Halloween decorations to their tubs, we will move the broken down cardboard boxes we left on the shelf back to the top of the Halloween tubs and move the new tree to the shelf to wait for Christmas.

Other than another lovely bowl of chili (and for me, avoiding the bread!) we have nothing else planned.

Lou Ann, I love your new skin ~ just beautiful! ~ and the new November page.  Wonderful as always.  Thank you!

I'm so glad you had such a nice time with the Aunties and the Ladies, at least up to the point where the conversation turned Political.  I really hate that we can't have political arguments that don't turn hurtful and turn us into enemies.   I've told you that in the past (long past!) I had many really heated arguments about politics and religion and other things as well.  It was stimulating and I always learned something, frequently about the other person's reasons for thinking as they did, and even more often about myself.  We always walked away as friends who respected each other.

Now we have been so divided that I fear we will never be able to do that again.   Now blacks must hate whites, women must hate men, Liberals must hate Conservatives, Atheists hate Christians ~~ and on and on.  Any comment that indicates we aren't in complete agreement results in anger and hurt, and it's becoming impossible to continue to respect each other.   If "you" can't allow me to speak and actually hear "me", then "I" must consider "you" a closed minded nincompoop.   How can we ever be friends?  It's horrible, and those who have worked so hard to drive us into our individual "boxes" should be flogged!  Of course they won't, so they win and we all lose.   I hate it and I hate 'them' for manipulating us for their own purposes and I'm not too crazy about "us" for letting them do it to us!

I'm sure in the future you will be able to get together and keep the conversation contained to safe subjects, but something fundamental in your friendship may have changed.  I hope not.

Mike's sister has said for a long time that she is a Socialist.  She's not registered as such, but that's where she is philosophically.  She holds very strong beliefs and so do Mike and I.  We have shirts that proudly proclaim we are "Anti Social-ist", that of course we would never wear around Marianne and Bill.  She works hard to avoid these subjects and so do we when we are together because we both hold such strong and totally opposite views.   Bill has recently 'converted' to her position and he is a control freak in all things, and so he needs to inflict his new found views on us, while never allowing us to present our views.  I'm finding it harder and harder to like him ~~ not for his totally wrong views (lol), but for his complete inability to allow others to feel differently than he does.  That's always been a bit of a problem for Mike and me, but now as we see our beloved country being destroyed by this kind of dictatorial attitude, it's really becoming intolerable.   We don't have much family left so we will keep working at it, but . . . .

Sorry about your lovely basket.  You guys do so much for charity and seem to have so much fun doing it!

I didn't watch any of the Network Halloween shows.  I always like seeing the costumes on the Today Show and I'm sorry I missed it.  It sounds like I missed a lot of other fun things too!

How funny that your TV or something is changing colored films to B&W.  I'll ask Mike if he has any ideas.    I doubt we'll be watching 'Mom's Night Out' so feel free to share the funny scene.

We're still in the low 70s today and tomorrow, but it's supposed to get really cold and rainy on Monday.  I hope the prediction that it will warm up a bit and not rain on Tuesday is right because I FINALLY called and made arrangements for the windows to be washed on Tuesday.   I should have done that before Marianne and Bill came but I felt so bad with those backaches I just didn't.  You'd think I thought I was going to be helping the guy wash the windows or something.  I just didn't do much of anything during that time, so we are behind.  Our windows are absolutely FILTHY!

I do like your turkey avatar much better not blue ~ LOL.

I

♥ Dorothy

Ok, the scene that cracked me up.  These are moms/women from the same church who go out on a moms night out.  The one, is the Pastor's wife.  She ends up in jail and her teen daughter comes to help her.  She gets all weepy and she tells her daughter...you do not really know me, I have a checkered past.  I have a tattoo!  She turned around with her back to her daughter (we cannot see) and pulls ups her shirt in the back....so it has to be a Tramp Stamp.  The daughter looks confused and says, Is that a face?  And the woman says, almost sobbing....It's Donny Osmond.  Omg, I almost coughed out my soda I was drinking.  It just struck me as hilarious.  I was so "in love" with Donny in my early teens.  But cannot imagine anyone putting a tattoo of him on their lower back, lol.  This may be a moment where you had to be there.
I love the pics and what a sweet little pumpkin she makes.
Here are pics of my little ones.
Tricia with Sailer the Cow and Finn as Buzz Lightyear.

Finn as Buzz Lightyear.

Now we have Liam in his Frankie outfit.

Just add shell and he is a Ninja Turtle.  Pictured with Nurses Kirstie works with at the hospital.

Also his Halloween Jammies.  Look at that face, I just melt.

Now for Samuel in his dino costume, lol.

Ok, I got carried away, lol.
Today is the benefit f
or Tay.  I am not going as I would have to make someone leave to bring me home.  With the way my hip is hurting I know I would not last long.

I am worrying that I will be in pain when we go to White Christmas next week.  But I

am going no matter what.  White Christmas is one of my Christmas traditions.  I

never could wait as a kid until it was on.  That, Rudolph and the Grinch. LOL  Am

watching Christmas Movies on Hallmark today and there is a new one on tonight.  I am

really a sucker for Christmas Movies, lol.

See you here tomorrow.

RE:NOVEMBER CHAT
(Date Posted:11/02/2014 8:31 AM)

And a cheery Good Morning to you all!

Yesterday we did get all the Halloween decorations down and left up the very few that were just "Fall".  Then we went into the garage to put them away and look for more Fall decorations ~ and found NONE.  I would have sworn that I had put up Fall things in the last couple of years, but I would apparently have sworn to a lie.  All of my Thanksgiving/Fall things must still be in a box in the basement, buried under who knows what!    Soooo, unless we get really ambitious and really, REALLY lucky, I guess our Fall decorating is done, pathetic though it is!

I have lots of little breakable things I can set out, but we all know THAT isn't going to happen, and we all know why, too.

 smiley43

I forgot to share some other things that happened on Halloween ~ or rather I talked so much there wasn't room or time for me to add them.  ha!

First, someone put spooky Halloween decorations on all of the mailboxes in the neighborhood!   When I went out to get the mail on Halloween, there was a ghost hanging from the nob, and our new neighbors whose mailbox is on the same post had a Bat laying across theirs.   How fun!  We all know who DIDN'T do it ~ no way could Mike and Dorothy walk up to each mailbox in the 'hood.  ha.    It was so cute to see them that I wish I'd taken my camera out and gotten a picture, but I didn't.  Instead, fearing wind, rain and passing Goblins, I brought it inside and hung it on the mantle with some of the other spooky critters.

Earlier in the day, Carolyn sent us a beautiful Fall table runner that she had made and quilted.  It looked great on the table ~~ until Shogun, who never bothers the wooden bowl there, decided he had to play with it.  We not only didn't want him to hurt it, but we were afraid he would knock the bowl to the floor and it would break, so I had to take it up.  Maddening!

Ah, well.  (Sigh)

smiley11

Lou Ann, I LOVE the pictures!  Way too cute!   I haven't seen any of Jack or Vince at Halloween yet, but I hope I do get to see some.

Those costumes are soooo cute, and so TINY.  They are such cute kids.

I have to admit, I would have laughed at the Tramp Stamp (I'd forgotten that term ~ lol) too.

I'm sorry you couldn't go to the benefit.  I didn't realize you were having so much hip pain.  Miserable!

Is "White Christmas" shown in a theater there?   I hope you can go.

I did see that Hallmark had started the Christmas stories yesterday, and I put one on but found that I wasn't in the mood yet.  I will be, guaranteed.  I love them, too.   I just may need to wait a while to get in the mood ~~ not that there is anything else to watch.

Have a fabulous day!

PS ~  Just got a picture of Vince the Caterpillar.smiley110

The frost is definitely on the pumpkins today.  It's only supposed to get up to 45 degrees today (brrrrr) and there is rain and some snow across the state.  None at my house yet, though.

I think the time change is challenging my sleep rhythms.  I woke up at 3AM, finally pulled my kindle under the covers like a little kid and read from 3:30 to 4:30 and finished my book.  Finally fell back asleep and slept until almost 7 ~~ which would have been almost 8.  Mike was up and in the Great Room at 5:30 because he couldn't sleep. Are we really sure Daylight Saving Time is a good thing?  Ha!

Make it a Marvelous Monday.

RE:NOVEMBER CHAT
(Date Posted:11/03/2014 10:21 PM)

I cannot believe I did not come here again yesterday.
I really am losing it big time.
Before I forget, I want to share a pic of Finn and Sailer that I love.
They are soo cute.

So yesterday I made crock pot potato soup and is wonderful.  I loved it.  I will put it in our recipes section.  Got the recipe from Face Book.  It cooks on low for 8 hours and is fabulous.
I have White Christmas on VHS and DVD, but I wanted to see it live.  Diane said it is not the same as the Movie version.  Different songs, etc.  Though some are still there.  And we were going as a girls night out.  Mom and all 4 of us girls.  We used to do that when we went to the Fireside for their Christmas Show.  Then people started going with us.  We had to take several vehicles, lol.  Now we do not go anymore.  Too bad really, I loved it.  I see my doctor on Monday so want him to check out my hip.  Hurts all the time and causes the knee and ankle to ache.  I cannot sit upright at a 90 degree angle for long at all.  Tylenol is not touching it.  I already know I have arthritis in the hip so I suppose it is getting worse.  Maybe if I got elevating foot rests for my WC it would help, but that is not going to happen by Thurs.
Going to Louann and Bruce's tomorrow and get me some baby time.  Both the girls will be there with their boys.  I will get plenty of baby time and Louann is making BBQ pizza for supper.  We love it and I have not had it for years.
I love the picture of Vince as a caterpillar, it is so cute.  So adorable.
I love the bowl....how is it made?  Is it carved out of a single log or something?
That table runner is beautiful.  She really did a wonderful job on it and it did look great on the table with the bowl.  At least you can still keep the runner on the table.
This weekend is the Christmas Shoebox event so I will be beyond busy Fri thru Sun.  So I may not get in here.  After, I have two weeks to complete all tags and letters.  It is a good cause but a lot of work.  I need to get busy to get some more tags made.  I only have one so far.  Not a good thing, lol.

Election Day.  I suspect I'll be watching way more News Shows that I should ~ lol.   No matter how everything comes out, I suspect EVERYONE will be SO glad for it to be over with and for us to have a little respite from all of the phone calls, horrid TV Ads and mailers!

I'm late today because the window washers came this morning.  Sam had a young helper so they got done in just over an hour.  We had the cats shut in the bedroom and told them so, but the young helper charged in there without asking us if it was ok.  He did shut the door behind him, but he had the windows open and screens off and that is one heck of a drop if one of them decided to go out the window.   Apparently Shogun got spooked and ran into the closet when he came in, but we couldn't find him for quite a while.   We were getting very worried that he had gone downstairs when those doors were open or maybe even out the front door.   Chrystie walked out to the food dish in the kitchen and the kid had the door open to the deck.   I'm afraid I wasn't "gracious".  Ha.

Ultimately we found Sogun huddled behind clothes in the closet and he stayed there until after they left.  I took Miss Chrystie up to the Morning Room with me and closed the door.  Ultimately all is well and we do have nice sparkling windows.

It's pretty cold today so we decided to go to The Golden Europe (Czech) for dinner tonight, and we'll likely bring leftovers home for tomorrow. Yummy.

The picture is adorable!  Such cute kids!

For some reason I didn't realize that White Christmas was a live show ~~~ how Fun!   I hope your hip doesn't hurt too much so you can really enjoy it!

Thanks for the heads up about Shoebox event so I won't worry about you if you don't peek in.

Have a great time with Louann and Bruce and their family!

Happy Hump Day!
We went for an early dinner at the Golden Europe last night and brought home leftovers for tonight.

Then we started watching the Election results ~ and kept watching all night!  Mike is usually good for about 20 minutes of news when something is going on, then he wants to move to a story or something and come back later to check things out.  Last night he didn't even suggest moving off of Fox, and neither did I!   Quite a night.

We still don't have the final word on who won the Governor's race or on the State Senate and House races, so I'll have to wait a while to see what happens there.  Fingers SO crossed that we get rid of the last legislature that did so much damage here.  Several of them have already been recalled.

Udall and Harry Reid are gone, and I was thrilled to see Mia Love win in Utah and Joni Ernst in Iowa, and several others.   I was even more thrilled that the rampant voter fraud I feared was apparently held in check.

I hope you have a lovely day.

RE:NOVEMBER CHAT
(Date Posted:11/05/2014 9:54 PM)

Well, I am not happy with the way elections went here.
But time will tell how it will go.  I really liked Mary Burke.
I hope she will try again in the future.  We will see if the
shift in power helps the country, I hope so and I will keep
hoping that they can all start working together for the
good of the country.  They sure are not accomplishing
much individually.
I had a wonderful time at Louann and Bruce's last night.
All the kids were there accept Kirsties Nick who was working.
So I met Sailer last night and held her a while.  She's a beauty.

Finn is adorable but he was a bit sassy last night.
The girls say he is a brat, but Bruce thinks he is getting better.  Had lots of time with Liam and Samuel.  They are both just as cute as they can be with so much personality.
Louann made bbq beef pizza and a veggie pizza as Tricia is a vegetarian.  Both were delicious.  Also a dark greens salad.
With a variety of choices to add.  I had avocado, craisins, sesame seeds, onions and poppy seed vinaigrette dressing.  Latet Nan made 2 dumpcakes, ony cherry and one lemonade and I loved both.  Served with Whip Creme on top.  Then we were playing with the babies and talking and they put Frozen in for Finn.  He stood directly in front of their big screen TV.  When told to move, back up or sit down, he just ignored all.  I really could not hear it well, but what I did see and hear was really nice.  The movie was fun and even had a twist at the end.  Mom and I will have to watch it some time.
Today Liam is 7 months old.

What should have been a great day started out horribly.
Nick's father, Liam's Poppy died. Nick's step mother went to get
him up and he was gone.  He had some health issues but had
been doing great.  So this was so unexpected.  So sad that Liam
will not know his Poppy.  Though Nick and Kirstie will do their
best so that he knows who he was.  It reminds me of my dad.  Brent
was just 6 months old when he died.  He never met his other 6
grandsons.  So sad for all.
I may not be in now until Monday.  I will try.  But tomorrow we are
going to White Christmas (if I go) and then Friday the Shoebox event
starts.  And I will be beyond busy.  Wish me luck for all.
Hugs,

I did manage to fit a challenge in today and here is yours.

Hello!   I have FINALLY arrived!        Marcela and her friend came today so I didn't even try to get on.  Too distracting.   I did get the trash and recycles to the curb and back in after they were picked up, so I wasn't TOTALLY worthless.

smiley13

I'm sorry you weren't happy with the outcome of your election.  I had suspected you wouldn't be thrilled to see Walker win.  He seems to be someone folks either love or hate and basically for the same reasons.

I thought when I posted before that every office and issue we voted on went the right way except Governor.  In the last election our State Senate and House changed and in my mind radically.    Several of them were ultimately recalled but 'mine' resigned when she saw the writing on the wall so she could appoint her successor.   The woman who is running against her really impresses me in so many ways, and I thought she had won, only to learn that even though all the votes were in, some 14,000 still hadn't been counted state wide, so her election is in jeopardy.  Simple fact is that late arriving ballots always favor the the other side for some reason so I'm concerned and I will feel terrible if the results change.

You hadn't actually met Sailer before?   She really is lovely!    I'm so glad you got some holding and hugging time with all the kids ~ well, except Sassy Finn?

Your salads sound wonderful ~~~ When is your next blood test?    Mine was today ~ a lovely 2.5.

I've never made a dump cake.  I have several recipes.  They look so easy but I wondered if they were as good as people say.   Great to know that they are!

I'm sorry to hear about Nick's father.  Horrible anytime, but somehow always even harder just before the holidays.

My fingers are crossed that you can go to White Christmas AND to the Shoebox events, and that you have a GREAT time!    See you when you can stop.

Oooh,  I agree.  Diamonds ARE a girl's best friend!  Or at least one  of 'em.  lol  Thanks so much!!

smiley13

Enjoy your day!

Should be a nice day today ~ 70 and no rain.  I think we are going to the Bonefish for an early dinner tonight.   Otherwise, except for a load of laundry I should do, not a lot of excitement here.

Hope your weekend is going well ~ and that you get to White Christmas!

I think Fall may be entering the endangered realm.   We have some Winter-looking weather coming up this week.  Yesterday you should have heard the winds!  It was 'only' 36 mph, but I thought for a while this Dorothy was gonna end up in Kansas!  Mercy!

We were both so lazy yesterday that we ended up not going out for dinner, or doing much of anything else.  We'll try for a do-over today.

On the very Good News front, unofficially our canidate for the local Senate has won!   I would have hated for her to lose fair and square, but it would have been intolerable for her to have the election stolen by all those rules the last legislature put in place to make illegal voting easy.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Hello Dorothy

I should be in bed but came here instead.

I need a couple minutes of sanity.

No, I had not met Sailer before this.

We do not see a lot of Reid, Tricia and kids.

Probably twice a year. They lead their own lives.

The girls make a real effort to get together.

I did not get to go to White Christmas.  I tried

sitting in my WC during the day and within half

an hour it was too much pain and I knew I could

not make 3 hours.  Mom said the musical was

wonderful and she knows I would have loved it.

My sister Joanne left at half time.  She has a bad

hip.  She has had it done 3 times and still has pain

issues with it.  She could not sit in the y

longer.  My mom said the seats were uncomfortable.

Nick's dads funeral was today.  I was unable to go to

that either.  My sister Suzanne's MIL is in the hospital

and in critical condition.  A couple of weeks ago she had

a fall at home and broke 5 ribs.  She was in the hospital

and was int he hospital for a week and then to a

nursing home.  2 days ago they found her unresponsive

and rushed her to the hospital.  She was bleeding out

somewhere and they could not find where.  They did all

the oscopies etc and could not find anything.  They were

giving her blood but they could not get it up.  BP bottomed

out and they had to put her on a respirator.  Today they

had to bring in Dr. Lily who did moms surgery.  He had to

go in.  He found 7 broken ribs and a couple were

compound fractures.  They were chewing up her lungs.

He removed a liter of blood and clots and another

of fluid in the lungs.  He then put a chest plate in the

attach the ribs to and those that did not hit, he wired

together.  He said those ribs aren't going anywhere now.

The next 12 hours is critical to he recovery.  He believes

she will make it, though they had been told by hospital

staff in a meeting with the family that she only had a

12% chance of surviving.  We are all praying for her.

I do not like the woman but do not wish her dead.

Josh turned 18 on the 8th and his party is today.  So

I will take a break from the showbox event to go to

that.  I do not think mom will stay too long.

Monday I see my doctor for the first time in over a

year.  I have a list to talk to him about.

I will be back Monday to chat.

Hugs,  Lou Ann

Good Morning!   Off to a bad start today.   I had my post half written and then just clicked on the back button rather than a new tab, and deleted it.  Worse, I hadn't saved any part of it.   What a dolt!

Ah, well, it looks to be a lovely day today (but for Barb's sake I won't mention the actual temp).  Starting tonight and for the rest of the week though, the frost will be on the four pumpkins we are using for decoration in the front of the house.  Very, very cold and SNOW!    Since we are going to be "Shut-ins" for the week, Mike is going to pick up a few groceries this morning ~ mostly produce that we can't stock up, and then we are going out for either brunch or dinner later.  After that, we huddle inside!

I'm so sorry you couldn't go to White Christmas!   It sounded purrrfect for you with your love of all things Christmas, and you need a bright spot or six like that!  Darn it!     It's too bad that Joanne couldn't enjoy it either.

OhMyGosh, the situation with Suzanne's MIL sounds horrid!   I read your description of it to Mike and we both just shuddered!   I hope she can pull through, but I wonder how long it will take her to recover if she does, and what the quality of her life will be while she recovers.  I can't even imagine how she fell in a way to do so much damage, bless her heart.

Good luck with your Dr Appt tomorrow.   I'm glad you are going with a list!

Good Morning!

The weather is changing here today.  It's currently 63 degrees, but starting to drop.  By 4PM it's supposed to be in the low 30s and by evening, the 20s!   Brrrr.  There is also a 20% chance of snow.  I think it's time to cover the chairs on the porch.   Otherwise, a good day to stay inside, don'tcha think?

We did get groceries yesterday afternoon and then went to the Bonefish for dinner.    Did you watch The Good Wife last night?   Did you like it??
