March Wind
March wind is a jolly fellow;
He likes to joke and play.
He turns umbrella's inside out
And blows men's hats away.
He calls the pussy willow
And whispers in each ear,
Wake up you lazy little seeds,
Don't you know that Spring is here?

RE:MARCH Check In
(Date Posted:03/01/2013 8:20 AM)

Hard to believe it's already March, isn't it? It seems to be coming in like a Lamb ~ which doesn't bode well for the end of the month.

Yesterday I did next to nothing! I woke up at 4:30 in the morning and couldn't get back to sleep so I went ahead and posted, propped up in bed. Then, once posted and my pills and coffee taken, the Tireds overtook me and I went back to sleep. Of course that throws the whole day off. When I finally got up to stay, I read instead of getting back on line. I waste more time online than anyone, and then I wonder why I never get anything done ~ even reading. I think I read a total of a dozen books last year. Shameful!
I'm reading and enjoying a little Cozy by Leslie Meier called The Easter Bunny Murder. The title probably tells you everything you need to know. Ha!

Not a lot planned for today, either. I plan to maybe finish the book and start another, and to avoid my News Groups and TV so I can stay mellow. Definitely a challenge for a News Junkie like me. smiley43

I think we'll go out and pick up some carry-out chicken tonight. Such an exciting life we lead. smiley47

Lou Ann, you've done it again!  Great March Page.
I have to admit, some of the designated days make me scratch my head in wonder ~ or maybe I just have an itch.   I'm delighted that you report them, but who comes UP with these things?  Do they ever co-ordinate?  I mean National Termite Awareness Day and National Solidarity Day and National Cleaning Day all on the same day.  Raise my arm in solidarity while cleaning out the termites?  LOL

I hadn't realized that today was National Prayer Day.  I wonder if they will have the breakfast this year.

You've done a great job.  You can take the day off as your reward.

Waving to GrannieM and Mary Ann.

Oh, no!  I'm talking to myself.  That's probably not a good sign, huh?

Ah, sure and 'tis the second day of March already. Looks like it's going to be a pretty day here ~ reaching the low 50s. The snow has disappeared from our forcast for a while ~ but not from our lawn.

We picked up a few groceries along with the carry out chicken yesterday, so we're set for a while. Omaha Steaks has a half price sale going on this weekend with some things as much as 70% off. We'll try to get there and pick up a few things on Sunday.

Not a whole lot planned for today. Budget, of course ~ transferring funds so we can pay our bills for the month, balancing the checkbooks and then tackling the dread Budget Book. I need to do some major remodeling there. Our cable and telephone bills have gone steadily up so that what I put in each month no longer covers them. We haven't added a thing and have the most bare-bones services you can get, and yet both bills just go up and up and up. grrrr.

Make it a great day, All.

Sure and 'tis time for a nice cuppa
and my morning visit with you lot.

I did get a few things done yesterday and today we're planning on going out for a late brunch at the Bone Fish. We were supposed to see snow tomorrow, but that apparently has been changed.

I started the third Inspector Gamache book by Louise Penny yesterday. Only read a couple of chapters.

Ok. Ok. I get it.  I DID take a shower yesterday, but I'll take another one today ~ and spray myself with perfume.   I'll use mouthwash after I brush my teeth.   What more can I do??
Or is it something I said?

RE:MARCH Check In
(Date Posted:03/03/2013 3:26 PM)

I do not know what happened to my post.  I posted here yesterday...or maybe the day before, using this border.  I am not going to remember what all I wrote and I am too upset anyway.  I am going to copy what I wrote my friends so do not have to say it all again.

We got some very sad news today. My cousin Tari's daughter Sarah, age 27, is dead. They live in Pennsylvania and Sarah's body was found in a drug den in Philadelphia (not where they live). She has been fighting her drug addiction for many years and we actually thought she was recently doing better...but she must have relapsed. I can only imagine what her parents are going through. I am praying that some good comes from this all. I know my nephews are all horrified by this and I hope that it makes a huge impression on them and their friends. I saw the post her boyfriend wrote about how much he loved her, through the good times and the bad and that he was always there for her and he only wished he could have saved her from herself. Maybe they should start putting all drug dealers to death....maybe then they would be too afraid to peddle their drugs. We have had so many drug busts in the past year here in our town....so many that are actually from Milwaukee and Chicago, but many are from right here. It is so sad. This is the first time I actually knew someone who died from an overdose, though I know it happens every day. May God give comfort and peace to all the family and may God hold Sarah close and let her feel his love and set her free!
Love, Lou Ann

Lou Ann, I saw your post on Facebook and came right here to see if you had shared any more information.

I've never had anyone I knew die of an overdose either, so it's hard to imagine.   I'm so sorry for what her family and those who loved her best are going through, and I'm sorry that the drugs took over her life and ultimately destroyed it.   We all have habits that are not good for us and we know it ~ eating too much, smoking, not exercising enough, drinking too much, on and on.   We (I) can feel superior to those with a drug habit because that's something I've never had and of course  something I would never do ~~~~ or would I, under the right circumstances?   Can I be sure?   Can I be sure someone I love wouldn't fall into that trap?   I don't have any idea how I would handle it if they did.   All I can think to say is that I'm so very sorry.

Gentle hugs,

Dorothy

Monday, Monday. Is everyone ready for a brand new week?

This week we have very little planned. Mike has a haircut on Wednesday and that's our only official appointment or commitment. We're supposed to be looking at snow this weekend, so we're trying to plan meals to avoid having to go out in it.
Next week will be busy, so we'll enjoy being able to do whatever we want this week.

I'm watching the news from Denver and it's snowing hard. Here just a wee bit North, it's sunny and beautiful. Go figure.

Hello Cuppa's

Hi Dorothy. I think that we grew up in a gentler time. Now the young face so much "crap" out there. I never had any experience with drugs...all the way through high school. I was introduced to marijuana later than that...when the guys went to college in Milwaukee.  I have smoked Marijuana.  If it were legal..I would probably do it again, lol. We had some wonderful times listening to Cheech and Chong and laughing our asses off. I never tried anything stronger and never wanted to.  I also have never seen it being used or anything.  Now I think most young people have probably seen it all and rely on their upbringing and beliefs to make choices regarding drugs. I also think it is so much worse in the bigger cities.  Though there have been a lot of drug busts here in the past year or two, as it seems Milwaukee and Chicago are too close. It is probably a miracle that so many kids actually avoid becoming drug addicts.

Sarah was a beautiful young woman and well loved.  But she just could not over come her addiction. Here is a picture of her, she is holding my cousin Marks youngest, Taylor who is her cousin as Mark is her Uncle.

I just feel so bad for my cousins Tari and Bob (parents) and my Aunt Velma and Uncle Keith (grandparents) she also has 2 younger brothers.  All are taking it badly...imagine knowing where and how she died.  It is awful.  I did not know Sarah well at all.  Because I could not travel and she did not come to the reunions here.  The last time I saw her she was around 13 I think.  So it is like we are on the outside looking in.
I am sure it is easier that way.
Nothing new going on here.  Mom made me meatloaf on Sat and I had a meatloaf sandwich today...yum yum.  I hope we do not get any more snow.  The snow banks are so high now.  I do not know where they will go with the snow.
Well going to say good night, sleep tight!
Hugs,

Good Morning, and a glorious day it is.

Yesterday's snow was quite a surprise, but it stopped in the afternoon and the sun came out. No snow on the pavement, but a nice, fresh covering on the lawns and roofs. It's supposed to be in the high 50s, low 60s for most of the week, and then snow again on the weekend.

smiley7
Lou Ann, what a beautiful girl she was.  My heart really goes out to her parents and grand parents and to her friends.   I (fortunately) can't imagine the pain of losing a child, but I can imagine losing her to drugs might be even harder than losing her to an illness or an accident.  Though there is not a thing they could have done, I'm sure there is that nagging doubt of  'If only we could have helped her'.   We always tend ot blame ourselves and wonder if we couldn't have done more.

Like you, I've never done drugs ~ other than the ones I HAVE to do now (humbug!).  I haven't even smoked Pot.  Now that it's legal here, maybe I should, but I'm not even tempted.  I'll have a nice glass of Scotch or wine in the library instead.     The idea of all the Pot Heads on the roads now when we're out in the car kind of freaks me.  I swear our Colo legislators must be smoking non stop lately.  I do agree with the new Civil Unions law, and I was completely in favor of the Medical Marajuana Law, but most of the other ones they've passed lately must have been passed 'under the influence'.  lol

Have a great day, all.

RE:MARCH Check In

It is freakin snowing here again....I am so so sick of snow. Spring is never going to come this year. I want grass and, and budding plants. Milwaukee area (south of us) is getting hit hard again. We are not supposed to get as much as them, but even an inch is too much in my book at this point. I definitely am suffering Cabin Fever.

I just finished reading 4 books, a series called The Seraphinium by Daniel McHugh.  First book was a freebie and I was hooked, had to buy the next 3 but at least they were not expensive.  It's a fantasy series and very violent...that was a turn off but the characters and story line kept me going. And it was a lot of fighting as it was an Epic War of Good and Evil...Good won.

Now I am reading another Fantasy book Dragon Soul...from the Dragon's in the Mist series...here we go again...free is the best selling tool for the publishers, lol.  Am anxiously awaiting a new book from Connie Shelton is either of her series.  Seems like it has been forever since she has had a new one.  Reading is the only escape from my Cabin Fever!!

Hoping you all have a wonderful day.

Hugs,

Hello and Happy Anniversary, annnieM and Dave!

Phooey. I went to sleep too early last night and woke up WAY too early this morning. Now I'm gonna be nodding off all day. Phooey!

Had a nice, quiet day yesterday. I really need to motivate myself to do more. I did make Chile Rellano Hotdish for dinner (dinners, actually) and I read a fair bit of the third Inspector Gamache book. Starts off with a seance in a spooky house and one of the people attending is literally scared to death! Or was she? Time to call Inspector Gamache ~ who has his own mystery going, though he doesn't know it yet. Now I'm more concerned about that story line than the murder ~ or was it person scared to death? I'm loving these books.

Mike did our taxes while I was reading, and we're getting back considerably more than we had expected! Mike was pleased to tell me the "bad news" ~ and I rained on his parade by questioning how that could be. By the time he went through all of the reasons it was higher than last year, and reassuring me it wasn't a mistake, I'd definitely taken some of the excitement from him. smiley52 Not to worry. We talked, and he got it back. And ~~ Whoopee!

smiley2

Lou Ann, it sounds like you have a bad case of Cabin Fever.  Make you think of Stephen King's 'The Shining'?  lol

I haven't read any of the books you mention.  As always, I'm so far behind in reading the newer books of "my" authors it's pathetic.  And now I'm hooked on the Louise Penny books.  I'd like to read some of my other authors and then a Penny and go back and forth, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to.  Ha!
I've been on such a Cozy Kick, and these are definitely not cozies.

smiley74 to annnieM and Mary Ann.

Have a Happy Day everyone.

Hello Cuppa's

I really do not have anything much to say.  I did not do much more than play my games and read today.  My sister Suz stopped by to take the trash to the curb, with Jordan and Bella and both had haircuts.  Jordan looked great and Bella looked so different.  It was a fairly short cut and Suz said it seems to have traumatized her.  Usually if you ask her if she wants to go for a CAR RIDE, she is all over you.  Tonight she would not get up.  Suz had to pick her up to bring her, lol.  She seemed fine once she got here...begging for treats!!!  She gets more than her share.  She is getting fat.  I told Suz it is not good for a dog that size to carry around so much extra weight.  We need to cute back on treats, here and at home.  But my mom just keep giving them to her.

Jinx visited briefly but did not come by me to get her treat.  So we gave them to Alivia to give to her.  Alivia loves coming over, mom keeps giving her dolls. I think we are out of rag dolls and soft dolls now so do not know what will be next.  Our cable went out this afternoon and Cassie, Alivia's mom helped us get it running again.

Dorothy, your books sound good.  I may have to check them out.  Something different for a change of pace. Then maybe time for a romance.  We will see.  Your hot dish sound good too.  Wish mom would eat stuff like that...I would love it. I found a crock pot recipe for a White Chili that I would like to make.  Maybe I can get the ingredients this weekend and make it next week.

I think I am going to start using Easter borders and tags too, otherwise the time to use them is too short this year. Have a thoughtful Thursday!

Hugs,

Good Morning all.

I slept until 7:30 this morning. Now that's more like it ~ Ha! The weather predictions here are insane ~ sunny and in the 50s today, snow starting over Friday night and all day Saturday (6-12 inches ~~~ Yeah. Right. lol) and then back in the 50s and on to the higher 60s by next weekend. Never boring at least. Of course, seldom accurate, either.

I'm still reading my book and thinking of all the things I should be doing.

smiley1
Lou Ann I saw that the skin had been changed and I thought annnieM was back.   Pretty!

Nice that Suz came over and took the garbage out, and you got some visiting with people and pets, too.

I envision Jinx becoming your cat ~ without the litterbox duties.

Hello.
The sun is shining but we're awaiting snow. Forcast has gone from 7-12 inches (I'm so sure!) to 3-5. Who knows what, or when, we'll actually get.

We went to the Red Lobster for lunch yesterday because we had a $10 off coupon, and you know us. Any excuse. Ha. Anyway, while it wasn't exactly bad, it was the least good meal I've ever had at the Red Lobster. Very disapointing. The grilled lobster was actually tough. Prob'ly won't be going back there for a long while. Afterwards we stopped at the grocery store for a few things, and that was basically our day.

Mike plans to go to the Meat Market for a brisket so I can make BBQ brisket tomorrow and a corned beef for St Paddy's Day, and that about sums up our exciting day for today.

They have staked out the next-to-the-last lot, marking it to begin digging a basement. By the end of the year our little community should be finished!
Remember the big brough-ha-ha they had at the last HOA meeting, where folks even walked out over the Board's refusal to stain the fence behind the houses facing the main street into the community? Well, yesterday we got a call from a Board Member saying they had "walked the perimiter" and were planning to stain that fence and how would we feel about having the fence behind our house stained, too. It's basically only visable to those on our street from our back windows, so less important. Mike told him it would be nice, so we may get ours stained, too. Hmmmmm.

I see you are still playing with the skins, Lou Ann, and learning a lot.   Good job!

Have a great day.
