RE:AUGUST SIGN IN
(Date Posted:08/20/2013 8:51 AM)

And a cheery good morning to you.
I need to come in and get cheered.  I made the mistake of reading email from some of my news groups before I came here ~ bad choice.  No good news today, but lots of bad news.

Last night we went to BJ's for dinner and brought home lots of good carry out for tonight and tomorrow night, so that's a happy thought.  W
e surged to 98 yesterday!  Now that's just too darned hot!

Monday has been our 'busy' TV night, with so many programs we like that we have to watch some of them on OnDemand  later.  Now that party is nearly over.  Major Crimes aired it's Season finale (after what ~ 6 or 7 episodes?  Really??) last night, and King and Maxwell finished the week before.  Longmire will end for the season next week and we've decided we don't like Under the Dome enough to keep watching, Stephen King or not.

Tonight, two favorites: Rizzoli and Isles and Suits, but one of the regular characters, whom we liked so much on Rizzoli, just died.  It appears a suicide, and that makes it even sadder.  Beautiful young man, talented and well liked, and the series was just renewed.  I can't judge because I don't know what his demons were, but he seemed to have everything to live for.  So many suffer such terrible burdens and somehow keep on keeping on, it seems such a waste if it was indeed suicide that this lovely young man couldn't just hang in there for a bit longer until things got better for him.  Anyway, it will make watching tonight's Rizzoli and Isles hard, I think.

Oh, dear.  I'm going sad again.  I'll read your post and cheer myself up.

Another lovely stealable border, Lou Ann.

I just tried to call Ben myself ~ not that I think I can have more effect on him than Mike does ~ but I got his cell voice mail.  Mike tells me he won't call back, so I'll keep trying him.  I don't know why things always have to be so hard.  Why can't people just do their darned jobs?!

I'll bet you'd like Boston Cream Pie.  I wish we could share.   I haven't had one myself in ages and I've never made one.  In my misspent youth I didn't have great success with layer cakes ~ I could never get them even and they'd break, so I just said the heck with them.  Ha.

Oooh, Lasagna!   What a nice thing for Brent (and his mom) to do ~ and how nice that your mom has decided she doesn't like it anymore so there is more for you!    I hope the transfusion makes your mom feel better.   I just can't understand why that problem continues.  How awful.   My fingers are crossed that she can make the trip.  Sounds like maybe if they don't get together soon, they may not be able to.

Have a happy day.

Our next door neighbor Barbara is a retired surgeon, and in the short time we've known her she has served in the mission field both performing surgery and sharing the Gospel in Africa, Guatemala and she is now in Haiti. She shares pictures and stories of the conditions she encounters and the things she is doing there via email.

In this morning's email, she shared this quote from St Theresa of Avila:

“Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion for the world is to look out; yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good; and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now. ”

Then she added: This is why, I am compelled to serve on the mission field. These kids need to see Jesus with skin on!

Kind of puts things in perspective.  I called Ben twice and left word with him about the lilacs and other work he should be doing.  Such an irritation.  Then I read Barb's letter . . . .

IT WAS HOT HERE TODAY. AND IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE EVEN HOTTER TOMORROW.  WE WILL TURN THE AIR ON FIRST THING IN THE MORNING.  WE HAVE A TON OF RHUBARB TO CUT UP AGAIN AND MOM WILL BE MAKING STRAWBERRY RHUBARB JAM FROM IT.  WE PLAN ON DOING THAT FIRST THING IN THE MORNING BEFORE IT GETS TOO HOT.
DOROTHY, I READ ABOUT THE ACTOR FROM RIZZOLI AND ISLES  YESTERDAY AND WAS SO SADDENED BY IT.  IT WAS HARD WATCHING THE SHOW TONIGHT AND I AM WONDERING HOW THEY WILL ACCOUNT FOR HIS BEING GONE FROM THE SHOW.  I THOUGHT THEY MIGHT HAVE HIM KILLED, BUT THAT MIGHT BE REALLY HARD ON THOSE HE LEAVES BEHIND.  YOU REALLY DO WONDER WHY..HE HAS HAD A WONDERFUL CAREER WHAT WITH HIS DISNEY DAYS AND THEN RIZZOLI AND ISLES.  I REALLY LIKE HIM AND AS I WATCHED TONIGHT IT WAS SO HARD TO THINK ABOUT HIM KILLING HIMSELF.  TRULY SAD, BUT AS YOU SAY...WE DO NOT KNOW HIS DEMONS.
TUESDAY NIGHT IS A SOLID NIGHT OF TV FOR US.  7-8 IS WHO'S LINE IS IT?, 8-10 IS AMERICA'S GOT TALENT. 10-11 IS RIZZOLI AND ISLES, 11-12 IS LITTLE COUPLE AND 12-12:30 IS HARDCORE PAWN. WE WATCH MOST OF THESE IN THEIR REPEAT TIME SEGMENT BECAUSE THE FIRST RUN IS DURING AMERICA'S GOT TALENT.  IT IS A WIDE VARIETY OF PROGRAMMING, LOL.
YOUR NEIGHBOR IS SUCH A WONDERFUL WOMAN.  I READ WHAT YOU SHARED HERE ON FACEBOOK AND SHE IS VERY INSPIRING.  YOU ARE LUCKY TO KNOW HER AND BE ABLE TO HEAR ABOUT HER ADVENTURES.
MOM GOT HER TRANSFUSION TODAY SO OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS SHE SHOULD START FEELING BETTER.  I HOPE HER BALANCE IMPROVES AND SHE CANS STAY AWAKE MORE.
YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO SNAG MY BORDERS.  I JUST ENJOY MAKING THEM.  AND I AM SAVING THEM IN MY BORDERS SECTION. TIME TO CALL IT A NIGHT FOR THE LAPPY.  I FINISH UP THE DAY ON THE IPAD :)
HAVE A GREAT WEDNESDAY.

Happy Hump Day

Surprise, surprise ~ we didn't hear from Ben.  I'm not giving up that easily ~~ he can run, but he can't hide.

We've had beautiful full moons last night and tonight ~ the Blue Moon.  I wish I could get a true color picture to share but I can't.  It starts out low in the sky and ORANGE!  Then as it rises it turns golden with the sky a beautiful blue-gray, and finally silver when the sky is nearly black.  I love being able to just sit in my chair and watch.  In the old house, we could never see the moon without going outside.

smiley16

Lou Ann ~ another lovely border.  I'm glad you are saving them in your borders section.  Very obviously I haven't gone looking, but I'm glad to know they are saved.

We watched Rizzoli and Isles last night and it really did give me a pang to think of that lovely young man being so despairing that he took his own life. I think I'll be ok with the character being gone, though I did enjoy him on the show.  I just really feel bad about the man.

The rest of the week we have no shows that we watch left, so we'll stream things from Amazon Prime or Roku or Netflix.  That's ok too.  It's nice not to HAVE to be before the TV screen at 7PM, if you know what I mean.  Maybe tonight we'll share a glass of something ~ wine?  18 year old Scotch?  ~ in the library.  Kick off for Mike's birthday is tomorrow with dinner at The Keg ~ their treat, at least $25 worth.

It's 7 A.M, and it's already 72 degrees.  Don't think it's gonna cool off today.

Have a good one!

HAPPY HUMP DAY FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH, LOL.
HOT DAY TODAY BUT I STARTED THE AIR AROUND 6:30AM THEN WENT BACK TO BED.  IT WAS NOT TOO BAD WHEN I GOT UP.  THEN WE CHOPPED UP RHUBARB FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE FOREVER.  WE HAD ENOUGH FOR 3 BATCHES OF JAM, BUT ONLY ENOUGH SUGAR AND JELLO FOR 1.  SO HAD TO HAVE SUZANNE PICK UP THOSE FOR US AND WE WILL MAKE THE OTHER 2 BATCHES TOMORROW, SINCE SHE JUST DROPPED IT OFF A LITTLE WHILE AGO.  MOM WAS FEELING A BIT BETTER TODAY BUT STILL TIRED AND I CANCELLED HER MAKING SUPPER FOR SUZ AND HER FAMILY TONIGHT.  IT WAS JUST TOO MUCH FOR HER.  SHE SHOULD JUST DO IT ON SUNDAY INSTEAD.  WILL SEE IF I CAN CONVINCE HER OF THAT.  MY SISTER IS WORKING ON THEIR MOVE...BUT I THINK HER FAMILY IS NOT OF MUCH HELP.  NOTHING I CAN DO TO GET THEM OFF THEIR ASSES.
NOTHING MUCH GOING ON WITH ME.  I SOMEHOW MISSED THAT CONNIE SHELTON RELEASED A SAMANTHA SWEET BOOK IN JULY, SO I HAVE PURCHASED THAT AND THAT WILL BE THE NEXT BOOK I READ.
DOROTHY, YOUR MOONS SOUND SO LOVELY.  WE DO NOT HAVE ANY VIEWS FROM OUT HOUSE.  TOO MANY HOUSES AND TREES.  REALLY BIG TREES...HOPE YOU ENJOYED WHATEVER YOU DECIDED TO DRINK TONIGHT.
EVERYONE HAVE A THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY.

Good Morning

Warm and mild all day yesterday, then in the late afternoon the winds kicked up so strong it looked like a hurricane or something.  Then the rain started, pouring, a real gully washer.  You could barely see across the street!  It lasted about 15 minutes or so, and then it was over.  We have the STRANGEST weather!

Today is supposed to be the coolest day of the week ~ mid 80s, with the possibility of a storm in the PM.  Back to the 90s tomorrow.

Mike is writing an e-mail to DaveTheBuilder as we speak, to beg help on the lilac situation.  It really isn't their problem, but since we started the work through them and as builders they should have more influence that we do. Maybe. it's a desperate bid.  I called 5 times yesterday and got voice mail each time.  aarrgghh.

smiley3
Lou Ann, another very pretty border.   That rhubarb jam sounds wonderful  Too bad we aren't closer or I would come and sit in your kitchen and look pathetic and . . . . no, that wouldn't work.  There would be too many ahead of me trying to get a jar.

When is Suzanne's moving day supposed to be?   I can't remember if you've told us ~ are they selling their old house, or were they renting?  What's the new place going to be like?

Howdo things look for your mom's trip??

We had the same situation in our old house, except it was taller houses on a higher elevation that blocked the moon.  I really am loving it.  While I wish we had a mountain view, this is so much better than anything we've ever had before that I don't feel bad about not having one.    Right now I'm propped up in bed with my coffee and my lap top and my view from the bedroom window is treetops and sky.  Lovely, lovely.   Ahhhhh.

Have a Happy Day.

GOOD EVENING LADIES AND GERMS
NO CLUE WHY I WROTE THAT
DOROTHY, SUZ AND JERRY DECLARED BANKRUPTCY.
THEY SURRENDERED THERE MOBILE HOME AND ARE
MOVING INTO A HOUSE HERE IN TOWN THAT THEY ARE RENTING.  IT IS SUPPOSEDLY A CUTE HOUSE AND THE OWNERS HAVE HAD IT ON THE MARKET FOR OVER A YEAR WITH NO TAKERS.  THEY JUST MOVED TO MADISON TO AN APT. WHILE THEY LOOK FOR A HOUSE THERE.  THIS HOUSE THEY ARE RENTING IN SMALL BUT IT IS VERY CLOSE TO WHERE JERRY WORKS...SHORT WALKING DISTANCE.  THE FAMILY JUST MOVED OUR AND SUPPOSEDLY CLEANED IT.  BUT NOW THAT ALL THERE STUFF IS OUT SUZANNE SEES SO MUCH WRONG WITH THE PLACE.  THE WHOLE PLACE NEEDS PAINTING AND
THE KITCHEN CUPBOARDS JUST HAVE BARE WOOD SHELVES IN THEM.  THERE ARE NICKS AND HOLES IN THE WALLS.  THE REFRIGERATOR IS A PIECE OF CRAP SO THEY ARE GOING TO PUT IT IN THE ATTACHED GARAGE AND USE THERE OWN.  THEY WILL BE STORING THEIR WASHER AND DRYER IN OUR BASEMENT AND USING THE ONES THERE BECAUSE
THEY HAVE GAS ONES AND THERE IS NO GAS HOOK UPS IN THE HOUSE. 2 BEDROOMS UP AND 1 DOWN.  THE MASTER ONE IS UP BUT THERE IS NOT BATHROOM UPSTAIRS.  THAT SUCKS.  SUZ SAID THAT PUSH COME TO SHOVE, SHE WILL PUT A COMMODE IN AN AREA UPSTAIRS.  THAT SUCKS, BUT YOU DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO.  THIS PLACE THEY COULD AFFORD,  THE GARAGE IS A ONE CAR, BUT THEY WILL PROBABLY USE IT FOR STORAGE AND
TOOLS, LAWN MOWER, SNOWBLOWER, ETC.  THEY DO NOT HAVE A GARAGE WHERE THEY ARE AND NO
BASEMENT IN THE HOUSE EITHER, BUT AGAIN, THEY ARE USED TO THAT.  THIS WAY THEY CAN HAVE THEIR DOG TOO.  THERE IS ALSO A GARDEN ALREADY GROWING ON THE PROPERTY, WHICH THE OWNERS SAID THEY CAN HAVE, THOUGH THEY TOLD A NEIGHBOR TO HELP THEMSELVES TOO.  I HOPE THIS WORKS OUT FOR THEM AND THEY LEARNED SOMETHING FROM ALL THIS BUT I DO NOT THINK SO.  THEY STILL SPEND LIKE THEY HAVE TONS OF MONEY, YET HAD TO BORROW 10 FROM ME TO GET JORDAN'S PRESCRIPTION.  I DO NOT THINK THINGS WILL CHANGE AND NOW THEY OWE MOM EVEN MORE MONEY SINCE SHE LENT THEM THE MONEY TO FILE BANKRUPTCY.  MY EYE IS BAD TONIGHT SO THAT IS WHY THE LARGE PRINT.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MIKE AND I WISH HIM A YEAR
OF LAUGHTER, LOVE, GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!

Good Morning Everyone.

Update on the Lilacs:  Sarah & Dave contacted the landscapers and apparently they want to put in our plants when they put in the plants at Sherri's new house the middle or end of September!   We've decided there is no point in continuing to fight them, but I do need to check and see if it's ok to plant Lilacs that late.  Who knows if they will actually even do it then, but we're worn out from trying.

Mike's Birthday Kick-Off was last night at the Keg.  Started with his favorite Perfect Maker's Mark Manhattan and a Peach Bellini for me.  Then his favorite shrimp cocktail (I only had one!).

For dinner he ordered steak and lobster.  The Keg gave him $25 off for his birthday.

I had a lobster cobb salad ~ fabulous!  Large chunks of lobster, avocado, red bell pepper, bacon, bleu cheese, eggs in a Pear-Chardonnay Vinaigrette.  I ate all the good stuff, and still brought half of it home ~ might make a lovely lunch.

Dessert was a shared piece of their amazing chocolate layer cake with chocolate fudge icing and ice cream with raspberry puree.

Nice kick off!    It started raining ~ so hard it was pouring sideways(!) while we were eating dessert, so we dawdled until it stopped.   On the positive side, I think it did clean the Chrysler, which was really dirty!

Have a happy day, all!

Lou Ann, I feel for Suzanne having to move and not having it be into the perfect place.  Moving is SUCH a PITA.   I hope they get everything fixed so they can enjoy it.   I wish it would be a wake-up call for them so they can get on top of their finances.

Have a happy day.

Hi Dorothy, did you pass my birthday wishes on to Mike?
Your meals look delicious.  I am so sorry about all you are going through to get your lilacs removed and replaced.
My nephew Josh has his first paid "gig" tomorrow.  He was hired to play 2 40 minute sessions at a huge end of summer party.  This man has one every summer and hires several music acts to play throughout it.  Josh thought there were several bands also hired.  He has been working hard to expand his song list.  He also agreed to play for a benefit for 2 missionaries at our church.  It's a freebie, but he also has 2 more paid gigs coming up.  It makes him so happy.  Jason starts high school this year.  He is a freshman but he just made that junior football team.  How cool is that?  My nephews are so talented.  Some of them anyway.
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,

Good Morning.

I had a nice, lazy day yesterday and Mike connected the new Modem so we can give Comcast back theirs as soon as we're sure everything is working well.  Surprising how much faster connection time is with our modem vs Comcasts!  Better picture too!  yay.
No comparison at all with the Century Link connection ~ which was not only much slower but also went out every time it rained ln the last month or so!

Late yesterday afternoon we turned on some classical music and had a nice glass of 18 year old Glenlivet (Scotch) in the Library.  It had been mild and warm all day but the sky had begun to darken and all of a sudden lightening flashes and thunder booms started and then the heavens opened and the downpour began, a hard driving rain that lasted only about 15 minutes.  This has become an every afternoon occurrence.  Kind of funny, actually.  Major storm, very short duration.

Indian dinner at the Russian Restaurant tonight ~ guffaw.  snort.  You know that old saying "A woman convinced against her will is of the same opinion still? I know we are going for Indian food, but every time I mention it, I say Russian Restaurant.  Must have short circuited my brain ~ we no longer even have a Russian restaurant.  Ha.  Anyway, Mike has started teasing that we are going to the Russian Restaurant for Indian food.  lol

Lou Ann, I did pass your Happy Birthday wishes on to Mike, and he really appreciates it.  I talk about my online friends and often read little excerpts from your posts to him, so he "knows" you and your good wishes mean a lot to him.

Wow I'm impressed with Josh getting actual paying gigs as well as doing benefits.  Maybe he really can have a career as a performer.  I've seen how good he is.

Congrats to Jason, too!  You have every reason to be proud of your nephews!

How is your mom doing?  What's happening with the trip plans?

Have a Sensational Saturday.

Good Morning my friends

Mike's Birthday Celebration #2 at the Jewel of India (check it out), and again we over stuffed ourselves.  Appetizers of Onion Bahji and Alu Chaat (too spicy!).
Entrees of Chicken Korma very mild for me and Chicken Ticca Masala (medium heat) for him, and three kinds of bread.  Best of all ~ we have leftovers for two days!

Again, the 15 minute downpour in the afternoon!  Strangest weather.  Fortunately for us, it happened while we were inside again.

We waddled home and Mike watched Dances with Wolves and I read my Louise Penny (I fear sad parts of movies).  Then he found the old TV Show "John Doe".   Did any of you watch that when it was on?  We watched the Pilot and enjoyed it.   Then on to Midsomer Murders, Season 5.

HELLO DOROTHY
DO YOU THINK THAT WE ARE GOING TO SEE THIS MONTH COME AND GO AND NOT HEAR FROM ANNNIEM OR MARY ANN?  SO SAD THAT THEY ARE NOT WITH US.  I AM HAPPY THAT THEIR LIVES ARE BUSY BUT I MISS THEM.
I WAS SAD THAT YOU DID NOT COMMENT ON ALL MY LESSON TAGS I POSTED AND THEN I NOTICED THAT THEY ARE NOT HERE.  I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED.  I KNOW I POSTED.  I AM GOING TO HAVE TO CHECK OTHER CATEGORIES TO SEE IF I ACCIDENTALLY POSTED IT SOMEWHERE ELSE.  I POSTED THE RESULTS OF MY MOST RECENT LESSONS.
THE RESTAURANT LOOKS WONDERFUL.  I SO WANT TO TRY INDIAN...IN IT'S MILD FORM, LOL.  I DO NOT DO HOT AND SPICY.
IT IS HOT AS HADES HERE TODAY.  WE LET IT GO TO LONG BEFORE CLOSING UP AND TURNING ON THE AIR..IT IS HAVING A HARD TIME CATCHING UP.  IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE HOT ALL WEEK.  SO IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO COOL THINGS BY TOMORROW.  IT IS SOMEWHAT COOLER, BUT STILL UNCOMFORTABLE IF DOING ANYTHING.  IT DID NOT HELP THAT MOM COOKED BEEF ROAST, CARROTS AND POTATOES IN THE ROASTER ALL AFTERNOON.  AS SUZ AND FAMILY CAME FOR SUPPER.  THEY HAVE BEEN MOVING ALL WEEKEND AND MOM WANTED TO FEED THEM A GOOD MEAL SINCE WE WERE UNABLE TO HELP.
I NEED TO GET THIS LAPTOP OFF ME AS IT IS SO HOT.  HAVE A MARVELOUS MONDAY.

WELL, THIS IS THE BORDER I MADE YESTERDAY AND I KNOW I TALKED ABOUT MOM PENDING TRIP WHICH I DOUBT IS GOING TO HAPPEN.  MY AUNT TALKS A GOOD GAME BUT HER MEMORY REALLY SUCKS AND I THINK SHE FORGETS AS SOON AS SHE GETS OFF THE PHONE.  IT IS SAD BECAUSE OF THEIR AGES, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT IF THEY COULD HAVE GOTTEN TOGETHER.
ANOTHER WEIRD THING IN THE YELLOW BARS BETWEEN THE POSTS.  IT WAS NOT THAT COLOR BEFORE AND I DID NOT CHANGE IT.  I THINK SOMETHING WEIRD IS GOING ON.
I WILL POST SOME OF MY LESSONS AGAIN.

I have a dental appointment this morning and then some errands to

run so I'm checking in and out quickly this morning.

I fear you may be right and we won't be hearing from annnieM or Mary Ann.

I miss them too and hope they are ok.

Sorry I didn't comment on your lesson plans ~~ that I didn't see!  LOL

Now I do see them ~ where were they before?   Anyway, they are all

beautiful!   I had thought you finished your lessons a while back, but

apparently not.   You have learned so much, and your work is beautiful.

Ah, that's when you have to love the slow cooker, when you want to make

a roast but don't want your oven on all day.  The meal sounded wonderful,

though.   I'll bet Suz and her family really appreciated a good home

cooked meal.  Moving is hard work!

I'm sorry your mom's trip is not likely to happen.  Not only would it be

a good thing for her to enjoy, but as we get older and encounter more

health issues, you just never know when the last time you get together

really is the last time.  I'll still hope it can somehow work out.

Well, I'd best get ready to visit the dentist ~ one of my favorite things.

Not.  Just a cleaning, so no big deal, but also no fun.

Make it a Mahvelous Monday!

Whoa!   I have to enter posts in this group via Firefox (which I hate) and it's scrolling!  At least it is to me.   No logical reason why it should, I'm not using large text size or a large image ~ and when I check the post out using ie10 it looks just fine so the border seems to be ok.  It also looks fine in edit mode. I haven't a clue what's causing this.   Maybe it won't be scrolling for you.   Aarrgghhh.

I'm copying and pasting the text and signature pic here without the border to see if that works.
