The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr. Mahendra Gowressoo, inaugurated on Saturday 30 August the Centre de Formation Artistique at Plaine des Papayes. This Centre , the second of its kind, will give the public the opportunity to develop its artistic talents.In his opening address, Mr Gowressoo made mention of the Centre de Formation Artistique at Paillotte pointing out that trainees there are performing very well and more than 1500 certificates have already been awarded by the Centre. The objective of the Centre de Formation Artistique, which operates under the Ministry of Arts and Culture, is to make the practice of all art forms easily accessible to every citizen. The training centre at Plaine des Papayes offers courses in guitar playing, tabla, violin, painting, photography and dramatic arts. It is open to all persons above 10 years and training is provided free of charge. The duration of courses is around three months and a registration fee of Rs 100 is payable on enrolment. It has to be recalled that the first Centre de Formation Artistique situated at Paillotte was inaugurated in April 2006. It offers courses in various artistic fields such as pyrography, photography, print making, sculpture, sound and stage lighting techniques and song writing.
