A high-level trade and tourism mission led by Mauritius Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Luc Duval, completed a three state visit in Perth yesterday. (Thursday 29) More than 500 travel agents and tourism partners turned out in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth to meet with 15 Mauritius-based hoteliers and tour representatives and 10 Australian partners. The mission, the largest ever from Mauritius, was designed to get a better understanding of the market. Earlier this year, Air Mauritius was granted full traffic rights into Australia. The airline currently operates two A340 services a week to Perth and one A340 flight a week to Melbourne and Sydney. During the visit to Australia, mission leaders held talks and conducted exploratory work to determine the feasibility of additional air services.
The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) recently opened its first tourism office in Melbourne headed by Greg Wren and a second MTPA office is planned for Perth.
