Mauritius has invited a British expert, Dr David Owens to assist the country work out a national strategy for the fight against diabetes, official sources disclosed to PANA on Saturday. Owens' task will be to develop a multi-disciplinary training programme for profe ssionals involved in the treatment of diabetes and create a database on primary, secondary and tertiary treatments of the ailment. He will also initiate clinical research programme on diabetes. Owens, a renowned expert in diabetics, works with the University of Wales College of Medicine (UWCM) Academic Centre, Llandough Hospital, Cardiff, Scotland. He is expected in Mauritius by the end of October, where he will spend six months, the source disclosed.
